Sadly, he died on 2nd October, 2017 and two nights after that, Phoebe Bridgers performed one of his songs as a tribute. It was added as a Bonus track to her album of earlier that year and it's such a sensitive and beautiful treatment of his song. Talking to Dolly Parton about the song when she was about to cover it, he said he didn't remember what it was about but there is an element of time travel in the lyrics - verse one is set in medieval times, verse two is in the present, and verse three mentions 'The Chosen Ones' evacuating Earth in silver spaceships. The cover version is fabulous - it's by Katie Pruitt - an Americana / folk / alt. country artist based in Nashville.
