  • What is the Oilers' culture?

    04/04/2019 Duración: 01h01min

Welcome, friends, to a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast! This week, the boys wanted to talk about culture, and what exactly that means when it comes to the Edmonton Oilers.  To start off this week's show, Jay walked the boys through the Finnish invasion that landed in Edmonton last week when a group of 25 Finns came into town to check things out and watch a couple of Oilers games. Unfortunately, the Finns weren't able to see a win but they did leave a lasting impact with their passion for hockey and willingness to express it. Seeing the Finns do their thing then led the guys into a conversation about culture, and what it means for the Edmonton Oilers. Do they even know? Fortunately, the boys had plenty of ideas on what the team can do to improve the organizational culture and how it would provide them with a positive ROI.  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

  • Nicholson, #KeepNugeForever, and Viva Las Vegas

    25/03/2019 Duración: 01h04min

Welcome, welcome, welcome, ladies and gentlemen, to another edition of the Real Life Podcast! As always, the boys are back with another 60 minutes of ear-filling wisdom that you won’t want to miss. This week, we’re talking more Bob Nicholson, trying to figure out where the Ryan Nugent-Hopkins trade rumours are coming from, and recap the amazing #NationVacation to Las Vegas that happened a little bit earlier in the month. It was a different flavour for the Real Life podcast this week as Baggedmilk and the Squire flew solo with Wanye wrapped up in some business calls and Chalmers in the middle of a family vacation. Despite the lineup temporary lineup change, the show must go on so the boys dove into the latest happenings with the Edmonton Oilers, including the fallout from Bob Nicholson's comments regarding Tobias Rieder, Ken Hitchcock's mysterious three-year deal, and the strange trade rumours surrounding Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. With the angering business out of the way, the boys wanted to pivot to something a li

  • The Squire on Trial

    12/03/2019 Duración: 01h18min

Welcome, citizens, to yet a very special episode of the Real Life Podcast as Jay, The Squire, Downton went on trial to face charges of being a traitor after he was spotted at the Calgary Flames game last Wednesday in Las Vegas. Jay never expected that TV cameras would catch him celebrating a Flames goal and, as a result, he had some major explaining to do.  After loyal Nation citizen, Fat Dad 69, spotted Jay on TV celebrating a Calgary Flames goal, the Internet erupted with rage over his treacherous ways. Has the Squire been a secret Flames fan this whole time? With the way the Nation was reacting to this shocking news, the Squire had some serious explaining to do and the first part of this podcast was dedicated to giving him that chance. Will the people buy his arguments? You'll have to decide for yourself. Back to the Oilers, the GM search is obviously a major topic of discussion around here but not everyone thinks the search will be as thorough as it probably should be. In fact, some folks believe that Kei

  • Good Stories, No Names

    05/03/2019 Duración: 01h11min

Welcome, friends, to a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast. It's the podcast where the boys set an agenda every week and are lucky to check off even half of it. This week, the boys touch on the Oilers recent run of solid play, recap Saturday's fan therapy brunch party, and a whole lot more. To start off this week's podcast, the boys jumped in with a look at John Tavares' return to Long Island and whether or not Islanders fans should be embarrassed about how they acted. Along the lines, the guys also discussed the celebration that happened a couple of days later when Leafs fans gave Tavares a standing ovation back at the ACC. Was it too much? From there, the guys get into the fan therapy brunch that happened at the Brewhouse on Saturday morning and marvel at the Nation's ability to come together even when things are going poorly with the hockey team. Sticking with the Oilers, the guys spent a few minutes looking at Mikko Koskinen's stellar play since Cam Talbot's trade to Philadelphia and wondering if h

  • Lady Gaga Has Pipes

    26/02/2019 Duración: 01h11min

On this week’s Real Life Podcast, the boys spend the hour looking at the trade deadline and the total lack of moves that came out of Edmonton, as well as the Oscars, Connor McDavid's suspension, and a whole lot more. With a few pending UFAs on the roster and a couple of pieces that likely drew some interest, we start this week by asking ourselves of whether or not the Oilers did enough to set themselves up for the upcoming Draft and offseason? Will the decision to hang on to their pending UFAs come back to haunt them? All we can do is wait and see. Fortunately, the trade deadline wasn't the only thing to talk as Chalmers dropped a wild story that he almost hit Connor McDavid with his truck at the autograph signing from a couple weeks back. Needless to say, the boys get into it over the close call. As exciting as that close encounter with McDavid must have been, it was nothing compared to the celebrity run-in that Wanye had at Rogers Place this past weekend. Trust us when we say that you will not believe who h

  • Long Necks and Cashin' Cheques

    20/02/2019 Duración: 01h10min

On this week’s Real Life Podcast, the boys spend the hour getting you caught up on all things Oilers, including Don Cherry's take on the Carolina Hurricanes, the return of Sam Gagner, Bob Nicholson's interview with Mark Connolly, and a whole lot more.  To start off this week's episode of the Real Life Podcast, producer Jared blew everyone's minds when he sneakily slid a new intro in from the one and only Daddy Long Neck. If you don't know who Daddy Long Neck is then we encourage you to spend more time cruising the weirdness of Instagram because he's one of the hottest "rappers" in the game right now. Back to business, the guys started off this week's show with a look at Don Cherry's comments regarding the Carolina Hurricanes win celebrations and whether or not they're acting like jerks with their elaborate celebrations. From there, we got in the interview that CBC's Mark Connolly had with Bob Nicholson and marvelled at Mark's line of questioning which was about as blunt as we've seen from the local media. Som

  • Is This Hell?

    12/02/2019 Duración: 01h10min

Welcome, welcome, welcome to yet another brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast! With the Oilers' season sinking like a rock, the boys spent this week trying to figure out how we can turn the narrative around to something a little more positive. Can it be done? The boys certainly tried their best. To start off this week's podcast, the boys couldn't help but sum up the terrible week that happened since the last show. Whether it was tossing jerseys on the ice, merciless booing, or fighting with other people on social media, Oilers fans have been rightfully salty and the boys tried to take a wider look at what's happening and figure out what we can do to help. So when the discussion turns to throwing jerseys on the ice, the boys all had differing opinions on what needed to happen and whether or not a sweater toss is something that should happen at all. From there, the guys look at a trend among some Oilers fans right now of blaming the star players for what's happening right now rather than looking at the te

  • One Frank worth of beets

    05/02/2019 Duración: 01h04min

Welcome, friends, to another episode of the Real Life Podcast! It's the weekly podcast that starts with an agenda and the hosts get to absolutely none of it. This week, the guys touch on Oilers' Twitter/Instagram, the Super Bowl, the deep freeze in Edmonton, Connor McDavid, and a whole lot more.  With the Oilers back in action after their bye week, there was a lot to talk about but, as usual, the guys got to absolutely none of it... at least to start. Instead, they looked in their favourite topic in the whole world — memes! One of the most interesting things that have happened over the last little while in Edmonton is the social media surrounding the Edmonton Oilers. Over the past few months, meme accounts that revolve around the Oilers have exploded and Baggedmilk and Wanye get into how great that scene is, including a look at some of the brightest stars. Next up, the guys take a look at the Super Bowl, leaving Jay to talk about the game while Wanye and Baggedmilk couldn't seem to care less. That said, Bagge

  • Overripe Defined

    29/01/2019 Duración: 01h10min

It's been a busy week in Oiler-land with the firing of Peter Chiarelli being announced late Tuesday night and the boys had plenty to discuss as they tried to figure out what comes next. Since last week's episode came out, the Oilers made a significant change to their front office with the firing of Peter Chiarelli and the question became whether or not the boys would have calmed down in the days that followed. The answer? No. Not they did not calm down. In fact, all three of the fellas were likely just as fired up as they were on the day the news broke, and it was the remaining management that few their ire. Now that Peter Chiarelli is gone does that mean that the problems have been solved? Is there more to the Oilers' current woes than the work of one man? To say that the guys have questions about what happens next despite the firing of the GM would be an understatement, and those questions translated into a Real Life Podcast episode that you won't want to miss. • Trent Yawney Gets It

    22/01/2019 Duración: 01h06min

Welcome, welcome, welcome, friends, to a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast, the show where the boys set out an agenda for the hour but follow absolutely none of it. This week, the guys spend the hour trying to make sense of what's going on with the Edmonton Oilers after they stumbled through what was arguably one of their worst weekends of the season. Are there still reasons to be hopeful as Oilers fans? Is it time to close down completely? This week, the boys dig deep into their fandom as they tried to find silver linings in an otherwise dark and cloudy time in Oilersnation. Following last week's explosive episode, the boys were back and hopeful that this week's podcast wouldn't be quite so intense, but with the results that the Oilers put up over the last seven days, that plan quickly went out the window. After recapping the last four games, the boys were once again filled with rage and did what they could to let it out. That inspired Jay to go on a Chiarelli rant for the ages. Not only did he look

  • Striped Up a Conversation

    14/01/2019 Duración: 01h06min

A new week means a fresh episode of the Real Life Podcast coming straight for your earholes, and this week's podcast gets a little bit heated as Jay returns from his vacation to discover the Oilers have turned into a dumpster fire since he's been gone. With Jay back from his Australian vacation, there was a lot of catching up to do as he reacclimatizes himself to being back home and being back in the mix with the Oilers. When he left, the Oilers were in the midst of a solid run that saw them climbing their way up the Western Conference standings, but then things really went sideways so we hear the Squire describe what it was like to be frustrated by the Oilers while trying to relax on the other side of the planet. On the bright side, Nation HQ will be getting a new Australian game called Finska set up in the yard and it could be used to solve any and every dispute that comes up with the crew.  With the vacation recap out of the way, the guys got into a lot of Oilers talk as they try to figure out what the hel

  • Trickless Magician

    08/01/2019 Duración: 01h12min

Welcome, friends, to the very first Nation Real Life episode of 2019! This week, we recap the Christmas and New Years break, look at the Real Life staff sightings in the wild, Wanye's adventures in social media, and try to figure out what's going on with the Edmonton Oilers. To start off this week's podcast, the boys look to get back in the swing of things with some hockey talk as they recap Canada's loss to Finland at the World Juniors and the reaction that followed. Chalmers used this as an opportunity to tell the story of how he took Finland's late tying goal as a cue to bet on Finland to win the game in OT and it all came as a result of a gut feeling his son had. What other strange betting routines does Chalmers have? Plenty, as it turns out. From there, the boys talk about some real world interactions where they randomly saw each other outside of the podcast setting, including the time Wanye and Chalmers met up at a magic show and Baggedmilk and Wanye chased cabs after an Oilers game. This led into Wanye

  • Hotel Catfished

    18/12/2018 Duración: 01h07s

Welcome, friends, to a very special episode of the Real Life Podcast! This week, we've got an intercontinental crew coming together to with the Squire checking in from Bondi Beach, Australia. On this week's episode, the boys dive into how the Oilers performed over the weekend and got some updates from Jay as he starts his vacation down under.  To start off the 103rd episode of the Real Life Podcast, Jay talks about getting scammed out of $700 by Internet shysters that pulled some scandalous shenanigans with his hotel room. Fortunately, things aren't all bad as his view of Bondi Beach is beautiful and his plans for a Christmas down under were more than enough to make the boys jealous. With Jay off the phone and back to his Aussie adventure, Baggedmilk and Wanye turn to more important matters such as how they're wasting their time on Instagram. Honestly, though, how could they not be excited when Daddy Long Neck releases a brand new track with Wide Neck that is taking the Internet by storm? As you'd expect, the

  • Nation Christmas Party, Ference Interview, and the Battle of Alberta

    11/12/2018 Duración: 01h15min

Welcome, friends, to another episode of the Real Life Podcast! It's the podcast where a show outline gets made but rarely matters as the boys often find themselves wandering the forests of their own minds rather than sticking to the plan at hand. This week, the guys jump right in by talking about the Oilers big win last night against the Calgary Flames and how the team really seems to be embracing the Hitchcock style of play. Not only are the accepting the messaging from their new coach, but they're also looking like a more cohesive unit on the ice than we've seen in the past. The goaltending is strong, the defensive play is locked in, and the Oilers are grinding out victories that they surely wouldn't have had only a few months ago. Considering how the standings are looking right now, would it be so wrong to ask the hockey gods for another Battle of Alberta playoff series? The guys didn't think so. From there, they boys recapped the Nation Christmas part that went down on Friday night and got into the compet

This week on the Real Life Podcast, the boys talk The Squires birthday ski weekend, Chalmers talks about his beef with skiing, and Wanye guides them along the way. • Keeping It 100

    27/11/2018 Duración: 01h06min

Welcome, friends, to the 100th episode of the Real Life Podcast! Since its inception, the Real Life Podcast has seen its share of roster turnover, good and bad news for the Oilers and beyond, and now it's time to look back on the first 100 episodes to try and make sense of it all. As the Oilers continue to plummet their way down the Western Conference standings, the boys wonder what it will take for the organization to stop the bleeding. Just this morning, the Philadelphia Flyers fired their General Manager, a team legend we should add, for a record that is identical to what's going on here. With Todd McLellan relieved of his duties last week, would it make sense to make a move at the GM position as well? What would it take for the Oilers to actually make that decision? With this being the 100th episode of the Real Life Podcast, the boys tested out a new segment called "Keeping it 100" where they spill some hot truth about the Oilers or life in general. Needless to say, the truths that came out were a little

  • What The Hell Is Happening?

    20/11/2018 Duración: 01h03min

After losing both games from this past weekend and six of their last seven overall, the boys are feeling a little bit salty about the way things are going right now. To make matters worse, Baggedmilk and The Squire made their way down to Calgary and had their trip ruined by one of the worst third periods we've seen in some time. From start to finish, this was easily one of the angriest Real Life Podcasts to ever be recorded, but can you blame them? The Oilers managed to make it through the hellish schedule that was October 2018 only to fall flat on their face, completely undoing all of the good from the first 10 games. But to start, Baggedmilk and The Squire recap the Nation Road Trip to Calgary and give thanks to all of the amazing people that made the weekend possible. Even with the loss, there was a great group of people that got in on the bus trip to Calgary and the boys were very grateful for everyone that made the weekend a success. With that out of the way, the angered bubbled over as the boys tried to

  • We're Getting To It

    06/11/2018 Duración: 01h05min

Welcome, welcome, welcome to a brand new episode of the Real Life Podcast, the show where the boys set out an agenda for the hour but follow absolutely none of it. This week, the guys have a hard time containing their excitement about the Edmonton Oilers after they made their way through a very difficult October schedule with a record that puts them in contention for the division lead. With this being the 97th episode of the Real Life Podcast, the boys decided they would use this momentous occasion to look back at the only 97 that matters, meaning, of course, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid. From the moment the golden ticket flipped over in our favour, to the draft part that followed, to being named one of the youngest captains in NHL history, a lot has happened over the first 3+ years of his career and the boys wanted to pay him tribute. With the Connor love-fest out of the way, albeit for a short time only, the guys looked at the rest of the Oilers and what they're doing to put themselves in contenti

  • This is a 1 Star PodCast

    30/10/2018 Duración: 01h03min

You've spent the last week pining away for a new episode of the Real Life Podcast and the wait is finally over! This week, the boys are bursting with excitement as the Oilers find themselves near the top of the Pacific Division standings for the first time in a while and they just can't hold it in.  How could the boys not start this podcast off by gushing about the Oilers? Impossible! After knocking out three straight wins against some of the league's best and temporarily sitting atop the Pacific Division standings, there's a hell of a lot to be excited about. After turning things around from their first two losses to New Jersey and Boston, the boys try to decide where was the turning point that got things moving the other way. Continuing on with the Oilers talk, the guys look at Connor McDavid's early season success, the horrible calls Milan Lucic has had against him, and Mikko Koskinen's first game in seven years.  After having Uffe Bodin and Peter Sibner on last week's show, Jay wrapped up the Swedish inva
