Berkreviews.com Moviecast - Oscar Draft 2018-2019
13/01/2019 Duración: 01h30minJonathan Berk from Berkreviews.com (@berkreviews) invited Matt Hudson (@wiwt_uk) from What I Watch Tonight and Sean Boelman (@bigtunaonfilm) from Popaxiom to come on the podcast for this year's Oscar Draft. Sean made the rules last year (listen to that episode here) and with a little revision and a bit of a twist, they decided to do it again. It's Site vs Site vs Site with this years draft and all the bragging rights! This episode breaks down the rules of the game and each of their picks. The Draft Each participant will draft 1 movie per round. Round Order is randomized and the rotation of the draft switches each round. There are five rounds. STEAL: The person who picks last in the first round gets to steal a movie from any other participant. However, the participant being stolen from gets to choose which movie will be exchanged from the other player’s team AND gets to add a sixth movie to their team. (e.g. Jonathan picks last in the first round. Sean has Vice and Jonathan has If Beale Stre

Berkreviews.com Movie Club - Solaris (2002)
13/01/2019 Duración: 53minIf you're new to the podcast, Corey (@coreyrstarr) and Jonathan (@berkreviews) both realized they had a ton of movies they'd never seen, but really wanted to knock off their gap list. In an effort to work through their respective lists, they started this podcast to ensure they at least check one new film off the list almost every week. Each episode features an in-depth review of the movie for the week initially spoiler free and then diving in completely after a spoiler warning. Before getting into the review Jonathan and Corey discuss what other movies they've seen since the last episode as well as anything else they feel like discussing. For a movie to qualify for this months theme it must feature some element of alien life coming to Earth or people leaving on a trip in space. While Corey and Jonathan have seen many movies that could qualify, there are still some big ones they have missed. Week 2 of Out of This World: Solaris (2002) Jonathan picked Steven Soderbergh's film Solaris (200

10/01/2019 Duración: 01h26minFor this episode of Top Five Movies, Jonathan (@berkreviews), Corey (@coreyrstarr), and Michael (@servermonkey) look back at all the films they watched during the calendar year of 2018 (mostly at least) and discuss the ones they wish they could return. In other words, these are the movies that they regret watching out of all the ones they saw. There could be a multitude of reasons and Corey got a little hurtful with her dishonorable mentions at the end! Corey's list: 5. Boo 2! A Madea Halloween (2017) 4. Phantom of the Opera (2004) 3. The Happytime Murders (2018) 2. Slender Man (2018) 1. Bad Samaritan (2018) Michael's list: 5. Peppermint (2018) 4. Cloverfield Paradox (2018) 3. Pacific Rim: Uprising (2018) 2. Red Sparrow (2018) 1. In an effort to work through their respective lists, they started this podcast to ensure they at least check one new film off the list almost every week. Thus, for a film to qualify for Movie Club one or both of them have to have never seen it or at least not seen it for a long time. They also thought it would be more fun to create themes from which they can choose their movies for each episode. Each episode features an in-depth review of the movie for the week initially spoiler free and then diving in completely after a spoiler warning. 30/12/2018 Duración: 51minMovie Club Podcast is a Berkreviews.com Moviecast. A while back, Corey (@coreyrstarr) and Jonathan (@berkreviews) both realized they had a ton of movies they'd never seen, but really wanted to knock off their respective gap list. In an effort to work through their respective lists, they started this podcast to ensure they at least check one new film off the list almost every week. They also thought it would be more fun to create themes from which they can choose their movies for each episode. Berkreviews.com Top Five Movies - Sad Clowns
27/12/2018 Duración: 01h10minSteve Carell had two big dramatic releases this fall and winter with Beautiful Boy and now Welcome to Marwen. It got Jonathan (@berkreviews), Corey (@coreyrstarr), and Michael (@servermonkey) thinking about their favorite comedic actor's more dramatic roles. Thus the topic for the episode is Sad Clowns - that moment when the funny guy or gal suddenly shows a softer side. It was a challenging list to narrow down, but the three thought long and hard and came up with their lists. Jonathan's list: 5. Sarah Silverman in I Smile Back (2015) 4. Jim Carrey in The Truman Show (1998) 3. Steve Carell in The Big Short (2015) 2. Bill Murray in Broken Flowers (2005) 1. 23/12/2018 Duración: 38minIf you're new to the podcast, Corey (@coreyrstarr) and Jonathan (@berkreviews) both realized they had a ton of movies they'd never seen, but really wanted to knock off their gap list. In an effort to work through their respective lists, they started this podcast to ensure they at least check one new film off the list almost every week. American Animals is a film that Corey has been wanting to watch for a while. Jonathan was actually able to see it with the cast in the audience at SXSW this year. It was one of his favorites of the festival so he's all in on watching it again. It is directed by Bart Layton and stars Evan Peters, Blake Jenner, Barry Keoghan, and Jared Abrahamson in a true story that you probably know nothing about. This film features the actual people involved in that story through interviews and embedded reenactments. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewscom-moviecasts/support

Berkreviews.com Movie Club - Three Identical Strangers (2018)
16/12/2018 Duración: 44minWith the year coming to a close, it made sense for Jonathan and Corey to try and catch up on any movies released in 2018 that they missed but wanted to see. As per usual, they take turns choosing the movies each week. Jonathan missed Three Identical Strangers (2018) at this years Florida Film Festival and has been trying to not have the film spoiled ever since. For the most part, that goal has been unsuccessful, but he figures it is better late than never. Corey also hadn't seen this film so it'll be a check on both of their lists. The documentary is directed by Tim Wardle and the plot summary from IMDb.com reads, "In 1980 New York, three young men who were all adopted meet each other and find out they're triplets who were separated at birth. Then they discover why." 09/12/2018 Duración: 01h04minIf you're new to the podcast, Corey (@coreyrstarr) and Jonathan (@berkreviews) both realized they had a ton of movies they'd never seen, but really wanted to knock off their gap list. Even though Jonathan had recently watched and disliked Lynne Ramsay's You Were Never Really Here, Corey picked it anyways. They are both fans of Joaquin Phoenix so it makes sense that she wouldn't want to end the year without seeing it. The film follows Joe (Phoenix) as he uses his special set of skills to rescue kidnapped girls and punish those who took them. The movie is included with an Amazon Prime Instant subscription to stream.

Berkreviews.com Movie Club - Selma (2014)
02/12/2018 Duración: 01h15minThe last film for the political theme was Selma (2014) directed by Ava DuVernay and starring David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, Tim Roth, and many more. It's actually an amazing cast, many who have become leads since this film. Jonathan (@berkreviews) selected this film and neither he nor Corey (@coreyrstarr) had seen it previously. They both knew this film would wreck them emotionally and were proven correct. Next Episode: You Were Never Really Here (2017) The last month of 2018 will have Jonathan and Corey looking back at the year and trying to catch a few films that they missed. Corey selected Lynne Ramsay's You Were Never Really Here, which stars Joaquin Phoenix, Judith Roberts, and Ekaterina Samsonov. It is directed by George Clooney and stars him along with Ryan Gossling, Paul Giamatti, Phillip Seymore Hoffman, Marissa Tomei, and Even Rachel Wood. Neither Jonathan (@berkreviews) nor Corey (@coreyrstarr) had seen this film before and they had very different reactions to it. The movie is directed by Ava DuVernay and stars David Oyelowo, Carmen Ejogo, and Tim Roth. It's a film that Jonathan has been wanting to get to for some time and fits perfectly at the end of this month of politics. Berkreviews.com Movie Club - The Manchurian Candidate (1962)
18/11/2018 Duración: 56minThis Moviecast episode of Movie Club features a review of the 1962 film The Manchurian Candidate directed by John Frankenheimer and stars Frank Sinatra, Laurence Harvey, and Janet Leigh. Jonathan (@berkreviews) and Corey (@coreyrstarr) had not seen either version of this film, but they decided to start with the original. The month of November has them using the theme of political films and this one definitely fits the mold. It was crazy to see how well it holds up. Next weeks episode: The Ides of March (2011) While technically it's Corey's turn to choose the movie, Jonathan did persuade her to pic The Ides of March (2011). Though it does star Ryan Gosling so it wasn't too hard of a sell. It is directed by George Clooney, who also co-stars, along with Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Giamatti. It's now a film that both are looking forward to checking out. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/berkreviewscom-moviecasts/support
