I’ll Ask An Alaskan – Mindy
09/10/2018I'll Ask An Alaskan is a human interest series of six 3 1/2 minute episodes featuring real life first-hand accounts and stories from Alaskans, both Native and non-Native. Episode 1: Mindy What's the next best thing to Alaska? The Emerald City, otherwise known as Seattle. A lot of Alaskans relocate there to escape the winters, or join family. That's exactly what Mindy Heyano (Yup'ik) did. She's a commercial fisherman who grew up in Dillingham with a love for sports and snowmobiling. She likes the city life of Seattle, but also enjoys going home to Dillingham too.

Word With a Champ – Horse Nations Indian Relay Day 3
24/09/2018The Horse Nations Indian Relay Council, Championship of Champions concluded September 23, 2018 crowning a Washington team from the great Colville tribe called NW Express as the world champions. Walla Walla, Washington hosted the event for the first time, it was a beautiful facility and well received by very enthusiastic fans. History was made as we watch the largest gathering of Indian relay teams ever. Over 13 tribes from Canada and the United States were represented. $30,000 was paid out in three laps for the championship race. Today we have results and a short interview with Ashley Abrahamsson.

Word With a Champ – Horse Nations Indian Relay Day 2
24/09/2018The Horse Nations Indian Relay Council, 2018 Championship of Champions enjoyed big crowds for the second of the three day event in Walla Walla, Washington. Friday and Saturday were qualifying races in the seven relay heat races, maidens, chiefs and warriors racing for championship Sunday afternoon. Over $50,000 in prize money will be distributed among the winners in each of the categories. We make history in Washington this week as it is the largest gathering of Indian relay horse race teams from the great horse nations with 38 in contention for the championship representing 13 tribes from the First Nations of Canada and American Indian tribal affiliations.

24/09/2018The 4th Annual Horse Nations Indian Relay Council, Championship of Champions, first performance concluded Friday night in Walla Walla, Washington. An enthusiastic audience enjoyed Americas first extreme sport made history having the largest gathering in the history of the sport, with 38 Indian relay teams that included nine teams from the First Nations of Canada. We visit with Ashlee Abrahamsson from a winning team about this years competition.

Alaska Water Wars Revisited Part 6
17/04/2018In early 2018, some game-changing things happened concerning the proposed Pebble Mine in Southwest Alaska. The EPA backtracked, leaving its proposed protections for the Bristol Bay Watershed on the Table. In addition, Pebble Limited Partnership's plans submitted as part of their application to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to the build the mine, became public. The company that wants to build the Pebble Mine is forging ahead while tribes opposing the mine say they will keep fighting it even as it progresses through the permitting process.

Reconnecting with a Healthy Lifestyle
16/03/2018Reconnecting with a Healthy Lifestyle is a special broadcast from National Native News with a focus on traditional foods to improve the health and wellness of Native people. We hear from tribal leaders, health advocates and grassroots coalition members who are taking on wellness initiatives, promoting food sovereignty programs to increase access to fresh produce, and are seeking new ways to improve the overall health of their communities. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Native Americans and Alaska Natives are more likely to report their health is fair or poor compared to other groups, particularly Caucasians. Rates of diabetes, suicide and chronic illnesses are often higher in Native communities. Indigenous people across the United States are taking control of their mental and physical health using both traditional methods and Western medicine. Alaska Water Wars: Stories from Bristol Bay 29:00
22/02/2018Alaska's Bristol Bay is home to one of the most valuable salmon fisheries in the world. It's also a place where a company has been wanting to build an open-pit copper and gold mine for years. The Obama-era EPA proposed limits for Pebble Mine to protect waters in the region. The EPA under President Donald Trump considered rolling those proposed restrictions back but then suspended the process, leaving the proposed restrictions on the table as the mine moves into the permitting process. 2017 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Day 6
13/12/2017Hailey Kinzel of Texas has set an arena record in Women's Professional Rodeo Association Barrel Racing at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. The record beat every contender vying for world championships over the last 32 years. Navajo Erich Rogers and his partner Corey Petska from Arizona are winning the world in the team roping after round 6 of 10 at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo.
