Who Tells the Standing Rock Story about What’s Next?
19/09/2016The state of North Dakota has an official version; one that’s told without officials ever visiting the site they know so much about. Then the state, and the Army Corps of Engineers, have a long history of rolling over tribes in the region.

Trahant Reports – Standing Rock Water
12/09/2016[audio mp3="https://www.nv1.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/SRWater.mp3"][/audio] Update on actions involving Standing Rock and the protection of water from the Missouri River. What’s next? The idea that a pipeline crossing the river needs a second look is a entry point into a larger question, how important are water resources in the era of climate change?

Trahant Reports – Disconnect
07/09/2016[audio mp3="https://www.nv1.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/Disconnect.mp3"][/audio] Why is the Standing Rock story so difficult for area politicians to understand? Trahant Reports – You gotta run to win
29/08/2016[audio mp3="https://www.nv1.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Gotta-run.mp3"][/audio] It’s easy to be optimistic about the prospects for American Indian and Alaska Native candidates in this election and beyond. Our numbers are growing, organizations are getting stronger, and, best of all, the most remarkable, talented people are giving elective office a shot. But we also hear people say this about elections: What happens when good people lose? Read full story

Trahant Reports – Native Republicans
15/08/2016https://www.nv1.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Republicans.mp3 This is Trahant Reports. So the data show that the vast majority of Native Americans vote for Democrats. And most run for office as Democrats. Of the active candidates on my #NativeVote16 boards there are 75 Democrats, 14 Republicans, and 4 independents. If you look at history, there are a lot more American Indians and Alaska Natives who have won office under the Republican banner. That list includes: Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, Northern Cheyenne, who joined the Republican Party after his election; Vice President Charles Curtis; as well as the only current members of Congress, Tom Cole and Markwayne Mullin. Trahant Reports: Where are your women?
01/08/2016[audio mp3="https://www.nv1.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Where-are-your-women.mp3"][/audio] Hillary Clinton’s acceptance of the Democratic nomination for president last week sent a message that traveled far beyond the convention hall in Philadelphia. It was a story told in hundreds of tweets from mothers and fathers, grandmothers and grandfathers, aunts and uncles, and those who make up a larger American family. So many beautiful tweets that showed a daughter watching television at the moment Clinton walked on stage. One second, one idea, one moment, that said so much about what’s possible. Read Full Story

Trump making their best case for winning the White House and Congress. This will not be an election where the color gray will be debated. The differences on issues between Republicans and Democrats are stark. Read More
