Sinopsis

Dan and Raul (and sometimes friends!) are visual media enthusiasts who enjoy discussions on current and old movies and tv shows. Listen to us casually debate, pontificate, correlate and appreciate whatever comes to mind related to watching stuff.

Episodios

  • #74 - WandaVision (Season 1, episodes 1 & 2)

    18/01/2021 Duración: 01h13min

Dan and Raul are covering a very very new show that just came out last week, and with good reason! This is a strong entry into the MCU as Marvel has made a very interesting and unique series that (so far) is taking place in a 1950's-style sitcom world featuring characters we know from the Marvel movies, Wanda "Scarlet Witch" Maximoff and Vision. This is sure to change and move in some incredible directions as the show progresses, so join us for a follow-up discussion to cover the entire season in March! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #73 - Mr. Mayor (Episode 1) / Coyote (Episode 1)

    11/01/2021 Duración: 01h38min

Dan and Raul begin the show with quick discussions on a new show that just premiered. Raul talks about "History of Swear Words" (Netflix) first episode, which features Nic Cage and an exploration of the work "fuck". Dan saw the first episode of "The Go-Big Show" (TBS); a talent/skill game show hosted by Bert Kreisher. Next, two new shows that premiered last week are discussed including, Coyote (CBS All Access), which Raul really didn't like at all, but Dan found some fun to be had within this genre. Also, the first episode (and 2nd episode a bit) of Mr. Mayor over on NBC, the new show from Tina Fey featuring Ted Danson as LA's new mayor. Both guys enjoyed this and will continue to watch, but with some suspicion that it can really equal the greatness of past Tina Fey works. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #72 - Confessions of a Dangerous Mind

    03/01/2021 Duración: 01h16min

Dan and Raul open 2021 with a throw-back episode where George Clooney's directorial debut from 2002 is discussed at length.  Raul has been a big fan of the film for many years and has seen it more then a few times, whereas Dan hasn't seen the movie again since it came out in theaters.  Both enjoyed this rewatch immensely as its a film rich in style (both structurally and visually) and character development.  Listen ahead for a deep dive on all things Clooney and Rockwell, and whether Barris "autobiography" was the truth or an elaborate tale of fiction! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

  • #71 - January 2021 TV/Movie Premieres

    27/12/2020 Duración: 01h23min

Dan and Raul got you covered on all their picks for what to look out for this coming month as we ring in the new year.  Cobra Kai is back!!  The newly-acquired Netflix show is premiering Season 3 on January 1st (Originally scheduled for January 8th, but was very recently bumped up a week).  A new CBS All-Access show starring Michael Chiklis called, Coyote, comes out January 7th.  Also, Search Party returns for season 4 on HBO Max starting January 14th, along with tons more fun stuff!  Listen ahead for all the potential shows that DTW might cover in the coming weeks! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

  • #70 - The Mandalorian (Season 2)

    20/12/2020 Duración: 01h04min

Dan and Raul are joined once again by guest, Jonnie, to discuss the just-finished 2nd season of this beloved Disney+ series. There were big moments to be discussed from many parts of the season including the future of the series, as well as other Disney+ shows from the Star Wars universe! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

  • #69 - Alice In Borderland (episode 1) / Detention (2020, episode 1)

    14/12/2020 Duración: 01h07min

Dan and Raul take a pair of new Netflix shows and discuss their first episodes. Detention is a Taiwanese "supernatural horror drama" that the guys both couldn't get into and will probably not keep watching, although they had some fun discussing the origin of the show, which began as a video game that was created in 2015. Alice in Borderland is a new Japanese-language show on Netflix that is a really good time. The guys for sure will continue to watch this as it was found to be a fun story idea that was executed really well and presents a world of deadly games, which should be exciting to explore and maybe even a future podcast episode potentially to discuss in more detail! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #68 - Freaky

    07/12/2020 Duración: 01h19min

Dan opens the show discussing many new shows he is watching currently, including Moon Base 8 (Showtime), Fargo (FX on Hulu), The Flight Attendant (HBO Max), Marvel's 616 (Disney+), and How To With John Wilson (HBO). But, then the guys get into a fun discussion about the new body-swap horror-black comedy, Freaky, which is a great time! Also mentioned is some other body swap and horror movies that have similar elements to Freaky, including the indie film Detention from 2011. Go stream this online (or do like Dan did and hit up your local drive-in theater!), you will not be disappointed! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #67 - December 2020 TV/Movie Premieres

    29/11/2020 Duración: 01h31min

Dan and Raul are back with an in-depth look at the upcoming month of TV and movies premiering very soon.  TV shows covered include, Your Honor (Showtime), Earth at Night in Color (AppleTV+), The Hardy Boys (Hulu), and The Stand (CBS All-Access).  Two new movies that look interesting and coming to Netflix are, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (Chadwick Bozeman in his final performance), and the George Clooney-directed, The Midnight Sky.  It's not the biggest month for TV in terms of potential quality, but there is a ton of stuff coming out that everyone surely can find something fun to watch! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

  • #66 - Train To Busan

    22/11/2020 Duración: 01h14min

Dan and Raul watched the 2016 Korean zombie film, Train To Busan, and for Raul this was a rewatch while Dan had wanted to see for some time but just hadn't. At this point everything with the zombie genre has been done, but this movie finds new and fun ways to use zombie's and their ever-shifting lore to bring the viewer something fresh and unique. The film has a low budget for what it sets out to accomplish, so its great to see something that has some indie charm but also can bring amazing special effects that would look great in any Hollywood movie! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #65 - Scanners / Two Weeks To Live (Season 1)

    15/11/2020 Duración: 01h41min

Dan and Raul start by discussing a new HBO Max show by way of the UK, called "Two Weeks to Live", and starring Maisie Williams (Aria Stark from Game of Thrones) in this fish-out-of-water action/comedy with a heart.  Also, the essential 80's series continues with a discussion on the career of David Cronenberg and more specifically a focus on his culturally-impactful film, Scanners (1981). --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

  • #64 - The Good Lord Bird (Episode 1) / The Queen's Gambit (Episode 1)

    09/11/2020 Duración: 01h14min

Dan and Raul discuss 2 new shows that recently debuted. The Good Lord Bird is over on Showtime and runs week-to-week and concludes it's 7-episode run very soon, while The Queen's Gambit is a very successful and wildly popular limited one-season (7 total episodes) series that just came out recently on Netflix. Both shows have buzz and back this up with quality productions in terms of acting and visual quality, each in a distinctive and fitting way that helps each show to succeed in what they are setting out to accomplish. Listen ahead to see if Dan and/or Raul will continue watching these shows! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #63 - November 2020 TV/Movie Premieres

    31/10/2020 Duración: 01h18min

Dan and Raul report on what they find interesting to watch this month, some of which includes Moonbase 8 (Showtime), B Positive (CBS), A Teacher (Hulu), The Liberator (Netflix), The Crown (Season 4, Netflix), and Small Axe (a collection of 5 films, Amazon) just to name a few!  Get into it and find out what else is arriving this month! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

  • #62 - Season of the Witch (1972) / The Crazies (1973)

    25/10/2020 Duración: 01h20min

It's Halloween-time so Dan and Raul are doing some horror film discussion's this week, specifically covering a pair of George A. Romero movies that have a smaller following then his landmark classic first film, The Night of the Living Dead. Season of the Witch and The Crazies were the 2nd and 3rd films Romero made, and they aren't too scary in the usual horror genre way, but that's also because of Romero's grander thematic ambitions, whether dealing with the horror's of domestic life as an aging woman, or the horror's of a town dealing not only with a virus but also martial law. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #61 - The Boys (Season 2)

    18/10/2020 Duración: 01h13min

Dan and Raul are back again to dive into the new season of The Boys (Amazon Prime), which is somewhat lackluster although very enjoyable on the whole.  The guys get into the many issues they had with character motivations and plot holes the size of Rhode Island that are sprinkled throughout, but overall the series is recommended to all.  Being a very popular show critically and commercially, it's easy to see why tons and tons have found this show to be highly engaging and satisfying! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

  • #60 - Enola Holmes

    13/10/2020 Duración: 01h30min

Dan and Raul take on a new entry in the Holmes-verse that has just come to Netflix as a feature length film (different from the recent BBC TV series, Sherlock, which consists of 3 episode seasons), and this time the Holmes in question is a young teenage girl set in late 1880's England. Both the guys enjoyed some aspects of this likable "for kids" YA-style movie, but it did feel long and had some issues with characters and their choices, but listen ahead to this spoiler-filled episode to see if your thought line up with ours! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #59 - PEN15 (Season 2)

    04/10/2020 Duración: 01h26min

Dan and Raul welcome back special guest, Natalia, for this episode. First, the film from the 80's, Stand and Deliver, is discussed as well as the brand new documentary on Netflix, My Octopus Teacher. Pen15 has a special place in the hearts and minds of Natalia and Dan, both big fans of the TV series, whereas Raul has a more difficult time finding large portions of the show palatable. All agree its a great show and well made, but the tastes of the watcher and what the find entertaining will decide whether this is the show for you. So grab your trapper-keeper and jump on in to see if you are in or out on Pen15! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #58 - October 2020 TV/Movie Premieres

    28/09/2020 Duración: 01h44min

Dan and Raul are back with another new month of TV shows and streaming movies for the coming month, and at first glance there didn't seem to be many obviously good shows, but then upon delving further into all the streaming networks offerings there was plenty of new media up for consumption. They cover the new and very strange streaming platform AMC+ and the new British shows premiering on this hard-to-find network, as wells as many shows on Netflix, Hulu, Showtime and Disney+, so listen ahead for a preview of what the guys might discuss on future episodes! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #57 - Ratched (S01E01) / The Third Day (Episode 1)

    20/09/2020 Duración: 01h13min

Dan and Raul watched two new shows first episodes, one premiering on Netflix (Ratched) and the other on HBO (The Third Day). The guys didn't agree on all aspects of the shows with Raul being more critical about these TV offerings than Dan, but still finding many interesting discussion points as can be the case with any type of show whether really great or really bad. In this case both shows kind of hover in the middle area, but are very creative endeavor's worth checking out atleast the first episodes. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #56 - Away (S01E01) / Woke (S01E01-03)

    14/09/2020 Duración: 01h12min

Dan and Raul discuss 2 brand new shows, one that just premiered on Netflix called, Away, and the other, a new Hulu offering entitles, Woke. Away, is a space drama that both guys had issues with but will continue to watch and see how it progresses. And similar feelings can be said about, Woke, as it doesn't establish a clear vision for what it wants to say about race relations/biases in America, mixing a sometimes confusing blend of sitcom and dramatic tropes, but there are some creative flourishes that make it worth a watch. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

  • #55 - Peacock

    07/09/2020 Duración: 01h38min

The guys discuss the newest streaming service, Peacock, the new platform put forth by NBC-Universal, which offers a strange mix of old school scrolling-style live TV based on only NBC-Universal content, a "Trending" section (we discuss the failure of this and how it could be better), and "Browse" that contains all the shows and movies that should be the focus of the service. There is some criticism to be had, but we do cover a ton of upcoming shows that are coming in the next year as well. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message
