Dan and Raul are covering a very very new show that just came out last week, and with good reason! This is a strong entry into the MCU as Marvel has made a very interesting and unique series that (so far) is taking place in a 1950's-style sitcom world featuring characters we know from the Marvel movies, Wanda "Scarlet Witch" Maximoff and Vision. Dan and Raul begin the show with quick discussions on a new show that just premiered. Raul talks about "History of Swear Words" (Netflix) first episode, which features Nic Cage and an exploration of the work "fuck". Dan saw the first episode of "The Go-Big Show" (TBS); a talent/skill game show hosted by Bert Kreisher. Next, two new shows that premiered last week are discussed including, Coyote (CBS All Access), which Raul really didn't like at all, but Dan found some fun to be had within this genre. Also, the first episode (and 2nd episode a bit) of Mr. Mayor over on NBC, the new show from Tina Fey featuring Ted Danson as LA's new mayor. Dan and Raul take a pair of new Netflix shows and discuss their first episodes. Detention is a Taiwanese "supernatural horror drama" that the guys both couldn't get into and will probably not keep watching, although they had some fun discussing the origin of the show, which began as a video game that was created in 2015. Alice in Borderland is a new Japanese-language show on Netflix that is a really good time. Dan opens the show discussing many new shows he is watching currently, including Moon Base 8 (Showtime), Fargo (FX on Hulu), The Flight Attendant (HBO Max), Marvel's 616 (Disney+), and How To With John Wilson (HBO). Dan and Raul watched the 2016 Korean zombie film, Train To Busan, and for Raul this was a rewatch while Dan had wanted to see for some time but just hadn't. At this point everything with the zombie genre has been done, but this movie finds new and fun ways to use zombie's and their ever-shifting lore to bring the viewer something fresh and unique. The Good Lord Bird is over on Showtime and runs week-to-week and concludes it's 7-episode run very soon, while The Queen's Gambit is a very successful and wildly popular limited one-season (7 total episodes) series that just came out recently on Netflix. Both shows have buzz and back this up with quality productions in terms of acting and visual quality, each in a distinctive and fitting way that helps each show to succeed in what they are setting out to accomplish. It's Halloween-time so Dan and Raul are doing some horror film discussion's this week, specifically covering a pair of George A. Romero movies that have a smaller following then his landmark classic first film, The Night of the Living Dead. Season of the Witch and The Crazies were the 2nd and 3rd films Romero made, and they aren't too scary in the usual horror genre way, but that's also because of Romero's grander thematic ambitions, whether dealing with the horror's of domestic life as an aging woman, or the horror's of a town dealing not only with a virus but also martial law. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

Dan and Raul are back again to dive into the new season of The Boys (Amazon Prime), which is somewhat lackluster although very enjoyable on the whole.  The guys get into the many issues they had with character motivations and plot holes the size of Rhode Island that are sprinkled throughout, but overall the series is recommended to all.  Being a very popular show critically and commercially, it's easy to see why tons and tons have found this show to be highly engaging and satisfying! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtopod/message

Dan and Raul take on a new entry in the Holmes-verse that has just come to Netflix as a feature length film (different from the recent BBC TV series, Sherlock, which consists of 3 episode seasons), and this time the Holmes in question is a young teenage girl set in late 1880's England. Dan and Raul welcome back special guest, Natalia, for this episode. First, the film from the 80's, Stand and Deliver, is discussed as well as the brand new documentary on Netflix, My Octopus Teacher. Pen15 has a special place in the hearts and minds of Natalia and Dan, both big fans of the TV series, whereas Raul has a more difficult time finding large portions of the show palatable. All agree its a great show and well made, but the tastes of the watcher and what the find entertaining will decide whether this is the show for you. Dan and Raul are back with another new month of TV shows and streaming movies for the coming month, and at first glance there didn't seem to be many obviously good shows, but then upon delving further into all the streaming networks offerings there was plenty of new media up for consumption. Dan and Raul watched two new shows first episodes, one premiering on Netflix (Ratched) and the other on HBO (The Third Day). The guys didn't agree on all aspects of the shows with Raul being more critical about these TV offerings than Dan, but still finding many interesting discussion points as can be the case with any type of show whether really great or really bad. Dan and Raul discuss 2 brand new shows, one that just premiered on Netflix called, Away, and the other, a new Hulu offering entitles, Woke. Away, is a space drama that both guys had issues with but will continue to watch and see how it progresses. And similar feelings can be said about, Woke, as it doesn't establish a clear vision for what it wants to say about race relations/biases in America, mixing a sometimes confusing blend of sitcom and dramatic tropes, but there are some creative flourishes that make it worth a watch. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/downtocast/message

The guys discuss the newest streaming service, Peacock, the new platform put forth by NBC-Universal, which offers a strange mix of old school scrolling-style live TV based on only NBC-Universal content, a "Trending" section (we discuss the failure of this and how it could be better), and "Browse" that contains all the shows and movies that should be the focus of the service.
