Sinopsis

This show is about the character of men rather than the trappings of manhood. We will discuss the challenges men face from day to day, relationships, and personal accountability. We will talk about the finer points of manhood, and what it means to be a man in these modern times. It is all designed to lead up to a decision; the decision to be a better man today, than we were yesterday.

  • 155 – Dead Weight

    18/01/2017 Duración: 11min

Every Wednesday I regal you with a story from somewhere in my unusual and interesting life. It could be funny, sad, serious or disturbing, the important thing is that every story has a lesson. The name of today’s story is; Dead Weight. Even though these are my stories, you can apply these lessons to your own life, or perhaps they will remind you of your own similar story and the lessons you learned from it. Either way, you should be entertained. As you listen I really want you to consider your own stories, when did you learn these lessons? Can you remember? Sometimes digging up your own past can have great benefit, especially if you are made to remember that one singular moment in time when you learned something vital. It’s almost like learning it all over again. That…is the purpose of these stories. In fact, I think there is nothing quite so human as the hearing and telling of stories. It’s how our ancestors conveyed critical information from one generation to the next. The stories told around cam

  • 154 – The Unwanted Photos Of Richard

    16/01/2017 Duración: 08min

I’ll be honest with you…I did not want to talk about this topic today. It’s unsavory, disgusting, and kind of gross. My wife was very persuasive though. She made me understand that it is actually important enough, and pervasive enough, to warrant it’s own episode. A lot of men might not know that this is even an issue, because we are not the targets of this behavior. Sadly, it is men who are the perpetrators of this. • 153 – The Red Pill Question

    13/01/2017 Duración: 14min

My wife sent me a link to an article about “Red pillers”. What are Red-pillers you ask? Good question. Basically, there is a community of men who claim to have taken the red pill, like in the movie “The matrix”. They claim to have disconnected from modern societal ideals about what men are, what they should be, and what their roles and functions in society are. They claim to focus on self improvement, and they loudly complain about all the injustices that men have to endure in these modern times. It is a community that is growing quickly, and that is why I’m talking about it. It doesn’t sound that bad on the surface I guess. I mean…I’m all for self improvement and I’m against injustice of any kind. However, upon closer inspection of this red pill community my opinion of it quickly changes. • 151 – The Super Power We All Possess

    09/01/2017 Duración: 08min

Remember, I didn’t start this podcast because I had all the answers. I started it to invite others to travel my journey with me; the journey of being a better man today than I was yesterday. So some of these answers and questions we may have to just talk about and come up with the answers together. Lately I have been thinking about the necessity for this show. This show obviously attracts a fair number of listeners, people like yourself, who want to be better men. So it would seem that I am not alone, that my quest to be a better man every day is shared by others. My question about that is; why? Why wouldn’t we naturally default to being better in the first place? Shouldn't daily improvement written into our DNA? Why is this podcast necessary? • 150 – When A Man Gets Too Cocky

    06/01/2017 Duración: 08min

It’s fine to know that you are good at something. I encourage men to feel proud about the things they do well, there isn’t anything wrong with that. However…it’s one thing to feel good in that knowledge, to know it and feel satisfied about it, and quite another thing to make sure everybody else knows it by bragging about your abilities whenever you get the chance. It’s a thin line between the two, and one that men too often stumble over, like I did today. There is something, an additional quality you can develop that will help temper your pride just enough, and keep you from becoming an arrogant jerk who brags and boasts until the moment you fail, and then you are embarrassed. • 148 – Letting Yourself Down…excuses, excuses

    02/01/2017 Duración: 09min

You know how you feel when a friend lets you down? It feels crummy, and even if you forgive your friend, it has still lessened your respect for them just a bit. You may have less confidence in them and you know you can’t rely on them 100%. The same things happen when we let ourselves down, except instead of feeling that way about someone else, we feel that way about ourself. The more it happens, the more it erodes our self respect and confidence, and the longer that goes on the harder it is to turn it all around. This is the issue…this is the danger of allowing any excuses to alter your own convictions. The post 148 – Letting Yourself Down…excuses, excuses appeared first on Being A Better Man.

  • 147 – The Power Of Today

    30/12/2016 Duración: 09min

I cannot over state the truth and power of today. Today is the only chance you have, right now, this minute, of having any effect on the future that has not happened yet. Many people are victims of time. They lament and grieve about the past, and they wait for the future to happen to them without taking an active role in it. That is a choice you can definitely make, you can sit back and just let life happen to you. You can rejoice when it goes well and complain when things don’t go your way. I think that is a poor choice though. I don’t think that is a choice you can make if you actually want to be a better man. The post 147 – The Power Of Today appeared first on Being A Better Man.

  • 145 – Friends Who Hold You Back

    26/12/2016 Duración: 10min

Today’s episode is inspired by one of you…a listener. This listener is named Rich, and he has written to me before. I was really happy when I read Rich’s letter because he posed a very relevant question. Rich has been listening for awhile now, he has been on the path of actually being a better man today than he was yesterday…and his question is; what do you do with your friends that seem to have zero interest in improving? • 144 – Value Of Community

    23/12/2016 Duración: 09min

I’m talking about this today because I want to encourage people to make the most of their communities. Think about the communities you may already be a part of, and ask yourself if you are taking advantage of all the opportunities there. How are you adding value to the group? What benefits are you receiving? Are you helping, teaching, and contributing as much as you can, or could you do more? Ask yourself how you can use this community to improve as a person and as a man. How can this community help you learn and grow and become better? If there isn’t an answer to that question…you may be in the wrong community. Go find a different one. After all, not all communities are good, they can be destructive as well and it’s important to discern the difference. The post 144 – Value Of Community appeared first on Being A Better Man.

  • 142 – The Habit Of knowing Yourself

    19/12/2016 Duración: 14min

Knowing yourself, and being true to yourself. These are two slightly different concepts but they are tied together…because it’s impossible to be true to yourself, if you first do not know yourself. Knowing yourself comes up a lot. I have provided you on several occasions with tips and tricks to know yourself better and why it is so important. I’ll go over it again for the sake of any new listeners. First, the reason so many people don’t know themselves well is because we lie to ourselves. I think humans are the only animal capable of this, but we do it all the time. • 141 – Mental Toughness…a reminder.

    16/12/2016 Duración: 08min

Today I just wanted to have a little reminder episode. Sometimes it’s good to just stop, and remember what we are up to here…what this whole being a better man thing is all about. If you have been listening for awhile then you are going through your life looking for opportunities to be a better man each day. You are thinking about it, you are becoming it. Human nature dictates that when we do something good we often have a tendency to pat ourselves on the back and then rest on our laurels. It’s a natural thing, and something we all need to watch out for, myself included. The post 141 – Mental Toughness…a reminder. appeared first on Being A Better Man.

  • 139 – The Power Of Silence

    12/12/2016 Duración: 09min

There is something about silence. Standing in front of someone, making eye contact, not saying anything until the moment is perfect. There is something about that, that rivets people to their seats. They want to know what you are going to say, they need to know. This is the power of silence. It commands attention. • 138 – If You Don’t Ask, You Won’t Get

    09/12/2016 Duración: 09min

Why don’t people ask for the things they want? What keeps them from it? Fear…good old fashioned fear of rejection, or fear of being denied, the fear of being told no. This is the real problem; dealing with fear. It’s a different kind of fear than being afraid of clowns or grizzly bears or dangerous places. Rather, it is a subtle, crippling fear that somehow makes us content to do without the things we want, the things we feel we deserve, or the things we need. This kind of fear makes us complacent and meek. I think one of the keys to overcoming this kind of fear is to consider the worst case scenario before hand…and accept it. • 136 – When Bad Things Happen

    05/12/2016 Duración: 08min

Today I’m going to talk about the fact that life isn’t fair at all, and a lot of bad stuff happens. How we should deal with that as men. We all know this is true, we have all had bad things happen to us. We have all been treated unfairly at one time or another as well. Some men have been treated much worse than others. Other men certainly feel like they have gotten the bad end of the stick…but it’s really all about perception isn’t it? Bad stuff happens to everybody across the board. Some people are born into bad stuff and others earn bad things through their own behavior. The fact is that bad stuff happens to everyone from the most privileged, all the way down to the least privileged. The post 136 – When Bad Things Happen appeared first on Being A Better Man.
