But he was unprepared for the flood of vitriol in response. The resulting blowback played out in the national media, with critics attacking Dr. Yancy in every form possible—including death threats—and supporters rallying to his side. • Birth of a White Nation

    16/09/2018 Duración: 01h13min

“Birth of a White Nation: The Invention of White People and its Relevance Today”, is a fascinating book on race in America that begins with an exploration of the moment in time when "white people," as a separate and distinct group of humanity, were invented through legislation and the enactment of laws. It provides a thorough examination of the underlying reasons as well as the ways in which "white people" were created, and how the creation of whiteness divided laborers and ultimately served the interests of the elite. "Birth of a White Nation" demonstrates how the social construction and legal enactment of "white people" has ultimately compromised the humanity of those so labeled. Jacqueline Battalora is currently a lawyer and professor of sociology and criminal justice at Saint Xavier University. She is also a former Chicago Police officer. She holds a Ph.D. from Northwestern University and has been engaged in anti-racist training since the mid 1990s. The post Birth of a White Nation appeared first on Books

Dr. Tommy J. Curry is the author of the groundbreaking book titled, “The MAN-NOT: Race, Class, Genre, and the Dilemmas of Black Manhood”. Dr. Tommy J. Curry posits that we should conceptualize the Black male as a victim, oppressed by his sex. He argues that Black men struggle with death and suicide, as well as abuse and rape, and their genred existence deserves study and theorization. This book offers intellectual, historical, sociological, and psychological evidence that the analysis of patriarchy offered by mainstream feminism (including Black feminism) does not yet fully understand the role that homoeroticism, sexual violence, and vulnerability play in the deaths and lives of Black males. Dr. Curry challenges how we think of and perceive the conditions that actually affect all Black males. Dr. Tommy J. Curry is a Professor of Philosophy and Africana Studies at Texas A&M University.
