This division saw two of the draft’s best defenders land on its turf as well as arguably the most head-scratching class of the year. Just like our draft previews for each team, these recaps will be done on a division-by-division basis. We begin these recaps with the AFC East and it was a pleasure to have Connor Rogers join us to help break it all down. Along with renown NFL draft analyst Matt Miller, Connor co-hosts “Stick To Football”, one of THE best football podcasts out there, and he also contributes to Bleacher Report. Round one of the 2018 NFL Draft began with the 2017 Heisman trophy winner landing in the AFC North, and ended with the 2016 Heisman winner landing in the AFC North. Why was Baker Mayfield your favorite QB in this draft class and why should Browns fans be optimistic about him as the potential face of the franchise? When at the earliest should we expect to see him start this season? 2. Did Denzel Ward’s talent and upside meet the value of the fourth overall pick or do you think the Browns should’ve traded down with Buffalo and

1. The Broncos reportedly only had three targets in mind with the fifth overall pick: Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Bradley Chubb. If none were there, they were prepared to trade down with the Bills. When Chubb unexpectedly fell into their laps, they couldn’t resist passing on him, and rightfully so. What does Bradley Chubb bring to the Broncos pass rush that was missing since DeMarcus Ware hung up his cleats? 2. In the second round, the Broncos looked toward the very near future. With the roster spot of Demaryius Thomas in question after the 2018 season given his age and 2019 cap hit, the Broncos picked a near carbon copy of Thomas in SMU WR Courtland Sutton. Although Sutton is projected to be Thomas’s long-term replacement at the ‘X’ receiver position, he has similar holes in his game that Thomas had coming out of college, must notably the lack of a route tree. Thus, Broncos fans shouldn’t expect that big of an impact from Sutton this year. However, it should be incumbent upon the

The Jets had to be praising the heavens that Sam Darnold, the top QB on their board as well as on most other boards around the league, fell in their lap with the third overall pick. Now that the celebration is over, the main issue with Darnold is when should he see the field this season. Regardless of how he progresses with his mechanics these next few months, would it be better for him to be the starter week 1, or would it be better for him to spend the first 4-8 weeks of the season on the bench? 2. Two weeks ago, we gave you a mock draft based on what we think SHOULD happen. Last week’s mock was done based on what we think WOULD happen. This mock draft combines both of those schools of thought in a war room simulation, which should also help give you somewhat of an idea of what goes on behind closed doors on draft day. I will be playing the role of the scout/coach trying to justify to the GM picks I think WILL happen, while the GM (who will be portrayed by our special guest) will either accept or reject each of my picks based on what he believes SHOULD happen. As we know, the 2018 NFL Draft is one of the most anticipated in recent years due to the expected quarterback bonanza at the top of round one. And apparently all four teams in the AFC East want to get their hands on one of these promising young signal-callers. A few weeks ago, the Jets moved up to the third overall pick, guaranteeing them that one of their two favorite QB’s will end up in their lap. Meanwhile, the Buffalo Bills, the team with the largest amount of valuable draft capital this year, are feverishly planning a move up the board from number 12 overall, to potentially as high as 2 overall. And as a result of trading Brandin Cooks to the Rams yesterday, the Patriots now own two firsts and two seconds. And it was reported earlier today that they are plotting a massive move (or two) up the board to secure the heir to Tom Brady. It’s a pleasure to welcome our good friend Cole Thompson of draftwire.com back to the program to break down this deep OL class, which could see as many 8-10 members selected in round one. How are you Cole? 1. While right tackle is arguably equally as important as left tackle these days, teams still tend to put a slightly higher premium on blindside protectors. Connor Williams and Mike McGlinchey, arguably the top two tackles in this class, are believed to project better to the right side.
