This week the U.S. split from its European allies when refusing to blame Russia for its invasion of Ukraine in votes on three U.N. resolutions seeking an end to the war in Ukraine. This comes at a time when tensions have already been rising between the U.S. and Ukraine…President Donald Trump called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a "dictator without elections," after Zelensky said Trump was being influenced by Russian disinformation. We discussed the United States’ changing view on the war in Ukraine and hear your thoughts on a possible solution. 

Leah Foley, the U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts joined us on NightSide to discuss tackling crime in Boston. Most recently the Office of the United States Attorney for Massachusetts charged twenty-two Trinitarios gang members with federal offenses, including racketeering conspiracy in connection with six murders and 11 attempted murders. There is an ongoing dilemma here in Massachusetts over prosecuting violent criminals who are here illegally that has local and federal officials at odds. In one case of a Guatemalan national facing child rape charges, the question is which legal action takes priority: convict and imprison the man for the crime he committed here in MA or deport him back to Guatemala. The Trump Administration wants violent criminals deported immediately while MA prosecutors argue they should be tried for crimes before deportation. Protesters gathered at Boston’s White Stadium to rally against the Franklin Park renovation project, a plan that includes tearing down the existing stadium to make way for a new facility, which will be used by a professional women’s soccer team and Boston Public Schools. The project has quickly become a key issue in this year’s Boston mayoral race with mayoral candidate Josh Kraft opposing the project, calling for an “immediate halt” on the demolition, whereas Mayor Wu supports the project. Elon Musk, billionaire and senior advisor to President Trump, is making political waves for his “involvement” or guidance for the Department of Government Efficiency. This week the White House put out a statement clarifying that Musk is not leading the department or it’s “cost-cutting efforts,” that rather Musk is an employee of the “White House Office.” This declaration comes after a lawsuit was filed by 14 states against Trump and Musk, claiming their efforts to cut government spending are unconstitutional.
