His quest for a stick-bow state record was something of a once in a life-time experience (and maybe took years off his life)...the proof is in the video! And what sealed that deers fate, was observing him go back to his bed. Then, to up the stakes the following year, he kills a hammer with a self bow (that he made himself...naturally). 20/07/2022 Duración: 01h22minToday on the podcast we are getting to the bottom of what we think we know…and what we actually know about buck bedding. I’m joined by Doctor Bronson Strickland of Mississippi State University. Recently MSU Deer Lab had a few Instagram posts sharing some initial findings related to buck bedding when they looked at collared deer data. The good news is they are extending this topic into another round of research to dive deeper…the bad news for hunters…well…we may not know as much as we thought we did. EP. 289: Hard Access Equals Big Bucks | Kentucky & Indiana Hammers
22/06/2022 Duración: 01h39minToday on the podcast I’m joined by Jacob Emery. Jacob’s from Kentucky and has a no nonsense refreshing approach to hunting. He broke a 3 year drought in style with two public land hammers…one in Kentucky and one In Indiana. Both relied on hunting hard to reach areas that required water access. Even still…the water access wasn’t a nice Sunday paddle. Most wouldn’t even go into to hunt these areas. As the work to get a deer out required transferring deer to boat, from boat to ground, move boat around log jam, drag buck back to boat…reload buck in boat…and continue paddling. I really enjoyed this conversation and hope you all do too - thanks for listening! To listen to the podcast click the purple play button at the top of the page. EP. 288: Killing A Target Buck & Drifting Tracks | Justin Hollandsworth
15/06/2022 Duración: 01h41minToday on the podcast I’m joined by Justin Hollandsworth. Justin is a legit big buck killer from Ohio. His consistency of taking a target buck and surgically removing him from the landscape is second to few. What I like most about Justin's approach is his lifelong commitment to continue learning the craft of bowhunting. A new trick or tactic can come from anywhere...experienced hunters or the newbie who is resurfacing something you've maybe placed in the back of your mind. Or maybe paying attention to how coon dogs drift a track...is the big deer you're after drifting your track? I hope you dig the conversation as much as I did - thanks for listening! EP. 287: 3 W's For Killing Better Bucks
08/06/2022 Duración: 01h38minToday on the podcast I’m joined by my buddy Josh Profit. Josh is one of the hardest working public land hunters I’ve ever met. The amount of miles this guy puts on scouting/hunting is borderline absurd. It’s paid off over the years in taking 12 public land bucks in a span of 15 years. He’s lives and dies by his 3 W’s of whitetail hunting. Hope you all dig the session as much as I did - thanks for listening! 18/05/2022 Duración: 01h17minToday on the podcast I’m joined by my good buddy Wilson Mcswain. A year ago wilson moved he and his family west to Idaho. We talk about the move, and how he’s having to adjust his hunting approach for the different terrain and habitat. And for the different species he’s now getting to hunt on a regular basis. I’ll be headed to pay him a visit this fall for an elk hunt, and look forward to spending some time in the wilderness with my buddy. EP. 282: Wilderness Survival & Preparedness | Kevin Estela
04/05/2022 Duración: 01h15minToday on the podcast I’m joined by Kevin Estela from Fieldcraft Survival. Kevin is a wilderness survival and bushcraft expert and is the Director of Training at Fieldcraft Survival. As I’m preparing for an elk hunt in Grizzly country this fall, preparedness and survival has been on my mind. Truthfully, the events of the past 2 years should have everyone thinking about how prepared they are if they need to go it alone, or secure their loved ones for a period of time. I began reading Kevin’s book “101 Skills You Need To Survive In The Woods” and wanted to learn straight from the source. Kevin has a great way of teaching and communicating that comes natural and made this conversation one of my favorites to date. Hope you all dig it as much as I did - thanks for listening! EP. 281: Earning Your Hunt | Jake Downs
27/04/2022 Duración: 02h08minToday on the podcast I’m joined by Jake Downs. Jake is one of those guys folks may not be aware of, but the guy has put more tags on critters than anyone I can think of. Everything from Brown bear and Bison with traditional archery equipment, to grueling sheep hunts. In a day and age where it seems hunters are divided by nearly everything from weapon of choice to public vs private hunting vs outfitter vs guided etc., Jake enjoys all forms…kills in all forms…and makes no apologies. HIs only requirement is that he earns his hunt. Hope you all dig the conversation as much as I did - thanks for listening!
