Episodios

  • Episode 249a: Detachment from results

    02/10/2018 Duración: 07min

You work hard and expect certain results. Sometimes that expectation can set you up for some unanticipated challenges. Dr. Wayne Dyer, in his book, A Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, tells us that it is important to strive, but not be attached to the outcome. Everything is a process and sometimes things that don't work out are valuable teachers to prepare us for when our ideas really do pan out.

  • Episode 249: Immediate Feedback

    28/09/2018 Duración: 18min

Ever hit a golf ball and have it dribble just a few yards forward? Or hit one right into the trees? What about those other magical times when you hit one right down the fairway. As BJ Palmer said, there's a big difference between doing several things just right vs several things just wrong. It's easy to realize that in the game of golf, but in the game of life, you don't get immediate feedback. You need to search for it!

  • Episode 248: Are You Congruent?

    25/09/2018 Duración: 15min

Congruent means that you walk your talk, that you do the things you say you are going to do. It doesn't mean perfection, but a striving to be the best you can be, without sacrificing your ideals. This is far from an easy task today, with lots of things trying to lure us away from our mission. Reggie Gold exemplified someone who stuck to his purpose which was to, as BJ said, "sell chiropractic, serve chiropractic, and save chiropractic, even if it takes 20 lifetimes to do it."

  • Episode 247: Pediatric Concussions

    20/09/2018 Duración: 20min

The incidence of pediatric concussion has skyrocketed. A 2016 article showed that 10- to 14-year olds had an increase of 143% and 15- to 19-year olds had increases of 87%, between 2007 and 2014 (see reference below). Chiropractors are uniquely qualified to help kids with concussion, since our focus is the brain, spine and nerve system. Listen as Dr. Rubin discusses this during a webinar for the Pediatric Summit. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4989377/

  • Episode 246: Something from nothing

    18/09/2018 Duración: 16min

Do we realize how all of us evolve from practically nothing? At one point we are but 2 microscopic cells. 40 trillion cells later and here we are! Amazing! That's how the universe works. It has the ability to change nothing into something. Dr. Rubin shows how this works in our lives too...if you look around, you can see examples of grass growing through cracks in the sidewalk, proving how with determination, you can overcome almost anything to succeed!

  • Episode 245: Why we should remain a drugless profession

    13/09/2018 Duración: 16min

DD Palmer created chiropractic to be a drugless healing art. There are some in the profession who want to introduce the ability to prescribe pharmaceuticals. There is nothing wrong with the judicious use of prescription medication, but that is not how chiropractic was founded. There is already an entire profession that does this. BJ Palmer asked us to keep chiropractic pure. What do you think?

  • Episode 244: Remembering 9/11

    11/09/2018 Duración: 16min

Where were you when 9/11 occurred? It was one of those moments of your life that you will never forget. Where you driving when you first heard the news, at work, school or home? How did you react? What did you do? How old where you? Some of my interns were kids in middle school then. Some of my staff were even younger. My son was 6 and still remembers it vividly. Today we honor the victims of 9/11 and those brave first responders who ran up the stairs as everyone else ran down. And we honor those who came from all over the world to help the rescue efforts, including chiropractors who adjusted first responders at no charge at a church near Ground Zero. Never ever forget 9/11.

  • Episode 243: Looking beyond what you see

    08/09/2018 Duración: 13min

Ever been to an iMax movie, where your entire sensory experience is taken over by a huge screen and loud sound? When a child comes into your practice with a confusing set of symptoms, that is where you must place yourself in order to fully appreciate where they are coming from. Are they ok with you examining them? Or frightened? Respect where the little child is at and approach them not from your perspective but theirs, and you will win them over.

  • Episode 242: It's all about perspective

    04/09/2018 Duración: 11min

Have you ever seen something from a certain angle, and then upon closer inspection, it looked very different? That's what it takes to be a pediatric chiropractor. Sometimes what you are looking at runs contrary to what the child's diagnosis is, and it is your job as a chiro-detective to come up with what is really going on with the child. They are NOT a diagnosis; they are a unique and special person with very specific ways to reach their particular nerve system. Studying paintings from MC Escher helps to open your perspective... look at some of his best work here: (https://www.mcescher.com/).

  • Episode 241: How modern dentistry recreated themselves

    31/08/2018 Duración: 16min

In the 1950's, dentistry was a 2nd rate health care profession. But they got together and create a mission to change the minds of America. By the 1990's dentistry had taken on a whole new image. Cosmetics, periodontics, orthodontics, and dentists are the premier non-medical health care providers. How did they do that? Chiropractic should learn a lesson from their dental friends...

  • Episode 240: Unexpected

    28/08/2018 Duración: 09min

The way chiropractic works is by putting an unexpected gentle force into the body, and the body then trying to make sense of that force by doing work on its own. The same is true with exercise, nutrition, meditation, yoga...all these unexpected health deposits make your brain and body think. Doing the same thing over and over again will produce less beneficial results. Do the unexpected. (Based on the video on YouTube showing a child with Autism delivered a graduation speech...see it here: https://youtu.be/mviCb2uFLCs)

  • Episode 239: The Fallacy of "I'm Fine."

    24/08/2018 Duración: 12min

How many times has a patient or friend said to you, "I'm fine" but you knew that something was 'up'? We have the unique ability to pick up on these cues and Dr. Rubin suggests you train your brain to be a radar for the subtle signs of distress. One way that this can be trained is by actively looking at works of art and seeing how many details you can notice in a short period of time.

  • Episode 238: Autism & Neuro Diversity

    21/08/2018 Duración: 41min

Neurodiversity asks that we look at children with Autism as part of our diverse culture. We celebrate so many types of diversity but try to medicate Neurodiversity. Why is that? Every child has their unique gifts...it is our job to help each child find those gifts and foster an environment to nurture them to their fullest expression.

  • Episode 237: 5 Lessons from My Father-In-Law

    16/08/2018 Duración: 13min

My father-in-law passed away last week, and in his passing, I was taught many lessons in how to live. He was an incredibly powerful and inspirational man with over 50 years practicing as a medical doctor and almost 60 years of marriage. Here are just a few of the things he showed us on the path of a well-lived life. Miss you, Dad.

  • Episode 236: The Art of Autism

    13/08/2018 Duración: 14min

Comparing works of art done by famous painters like Monet and Klee to art created by children with Autism reveals incredible similarities. These children have had little or no formal training but are able to create artwork that is masterful (see example here: https://irisgracepainting.com/). How is this talent in a 5 year old possible? Because she has an unfiltered connection to her gift. We all have gifts to share, no matter what is happening with us. What is your gift? And are you sharing it with the world?

  • Episode 235: What Is Wrong with Our Brains?

    07/08/2018 Duración: 43min

Autism, ADHD, Concussions, Seizures, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's...all on the rise! Why? What is wrong with the brains today? Not just in kids with developmental or behavioral issues, but in adults with weakened brains too. Dr. Rubin postulates some new ideas as to what is happening and why in this well-researched and passionate talk.

  • Episode 234: From Humble Beginnings

    02/08/2018 Duración: 13min

How does one start a practice? Dr Rubin believes the best way is to start small and go big. Your practice members aren't coming to see you because you have the prettiest office in town. You are attracting them in droves because of who YOU are, how YOU take care of them, what YOU say to them. It's not about what's outside...it's about what inside that counts. Sound familiar? ADIO (above-down, inside out). It works to heal a body and to build a practice!

  • Episode 233: Lost chiropractic books revisited

    30/07/2018 Duración: 47min

Have you ever read Stephenson's "The Art of Chiropractic?" Or Fred Barge's "Life Without Fear?" 2 classic chiropractic texts that are not very well known, but with Dr. Rubin's help, he brings them to life as he discusses them with the Logan University Philosophy Group. If you enjoy Stephenson's "Chiropractic Textbook" and Barges "Are You The Doctor?", then you'll love this...and if you are unfamiliar with either of these authors, then let us initiate you!

  • Episode 232: String Theory & the Law of Attraction

    26/07/2018 Duración: 14min

Have you ever looked at a picture of a distant galaxy? Then a picture of an electron cloud? They kinda look the same. Is that a coincidence? Not according to the String Theory, which says everything is connected. And if that is true, then the concept, "What you think about, comes about" makes a lot more sense. What you put your focus on, expands. Why? Because it's all connected? The universe leaves clues, and so does success!

  • Episode 231: Everything is not as it appears

    23/07/2018 Duración: 15min

Learning through Art series, Part 1. Dr. Rubin explores how looking at works of art can help improve your ability to diagnose. It started at Yale University Medical School, where they took 1st year med students to the Yale Art Gallery to discuss how to improve diagnosis skills by improving observational ability. If it can help med students it certainly can help chiropractic students!
