    02/12/2022 Duración: 01h19min

Deep in the Himalayas lies the country of Bhutan, one of the world’s only carbon-negative countries. And yet it is a place of major impact from the terrible effects of climate change. As glaciers melt high up in the mountains, small villages are being washed away in horrifying glacier lake outburst floods (essentially, giant lakes formed from melting glaciers overflow, sending a massive rush of water down valley wiping out everything in it’s path). Enter The Snowman Race. Created by His Majesty the King of Bhutan, this effort to raise awareness of this crisis is a five day stage race through the mountains giving athletes a first hand look at the effects of this crisis. Over 126 miles, an average elevation over 14,000feet and climbing to heights at nearly 18,000 feet this is TRULY one of the most difficult athletic events in the world. Joining some of the world’s best mountain athletes, on a personal invite from the King, a Pacific Northwest FKT master Ashly Winchester headed out to the Himalayas to take

  • #310: Sabrina White 2 -- When to Abandon an Adventure

    04/11/2022 Duración: 01h11min

This week we are chatting with awesome human Sabrina White!! I’ve been looking forward to this one since she returned from her big trip to Mongolia last summer. She had planned on a HUGE bikepacking tour of the Mongolian wilderness, trained for months, dialed in all of her gear and even shipped a giant mountain bike halfway across the world. In other words, she was focused on this adventure for over a year. And then she threw all of her well laid plans out the window. After flying out there and spending a week as a traveler Sabrina found a way to have a deeper purpose and sense of fulfillment. This is a really interesting conversation to have on an adventure podcast. When do we decide to throw out our plan? What do we discover when we intentionally don’t accomplish a huge feat of endurance? Is there more out there for us then reaching an athletic goal? I am very very excited for you to listen in as we dive into some topics that we haven’t previously explored on this show!!! Can’t wait for you to listen
