March 22, 2018 | Miller Chapel "But speaking the truth in love, we must grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ." If we cannot speak the truth in love it is not the truth of Christ. And if we cannot love in truth, it is not love. A community of Christ holds truth and love together.

March 15, 2018 | Miller Chapel "I pray that you may have the power to . . . know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge . . ." What does it mean to know a love that surpasses knowledge? The point of theology is greater than knowledge about God. The point is to know God. But that can only happen in community.

March 1, 2018 | Miller Chapel ". . . you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are citizens with the saints and also members of the household of God." When we remember that we are adopted Gentiles in the household of God, we get less interested in thinking about us vs. them. By the grace of God there is no them. Only us – who have been “brought near by the blood of Christ.”

The Gospel always turns on the holy word “but.” We were dead, but God made us alive. None of us can self-construct a life. But grace brings us back to life in Christ’s community.
