Kirk, Spock and an away team chase after him, but not before he jumps through "The Guardian of Forever" a portal into earth history. Kirk and Spock follow McCoy through the portal into Depression Era Earth where Kirk falls in love with a social worker (Joan Collins) who has to die to restore the future.
