Sinopsis
Ryan and Bev Ellis are partners in film nerdery who share their often humorous musings on the AFI's 1998 & 2007 lists of the greatest 100 American films ever made. But we finished with that in December 2015, so now we just review anything we feel like!

The Sound Of Music
01/09/2014 Duración: 38minThe most-successful musical of all time is the 67th T100P podcast. Despite the megawatt sunniness of Julie Andrews, the movie ventures into some rough subject matter (ie. stupid Nazis). Good thing the singing nun has her do-re-mi, her favorite things and her sounds of music. Blockbusters don’t get huger than this. Our thoughts await you!
-
My Fair Lady
25/08/2014 Duración: 45minThe "other" Hepburn and the inspiration for Stewie from Family Guy star in this ritzy musical *cough cough* romance, the 66th edition of the T110P. We did not love My Fair Lady. In fact, “tearing new ones” rises to a new level. Find out why!
-
Dr. Strangelove
18/08/2014 Duración: 49minMein fuhrer, nuclear war is funny! T100P ‘cast #65 is an Ellis favourite. Peter Sellers, George C. Scott and company are even funnier than you remember in Stanley Kubrick’s daring blackblackblack comedy. Bring on the quotes!
-
To Kill A Mockingbird
11/08/2014 Duración: 54minGregory Peck stars in this much-loved coming-of-age tale, our 64th podcast in the T100P. His kid costars (Mary Badham and Philip Alford) are the focus of the story, but good performances abound. The AFI reveres this picture. How about the Ellises?
-
Lawrence Of Arabia
04/08/2014 Duración: 51minA white madman embeds himself amongst warring Arab tribes during WW1. What can go wrong? So, so much. But the movie makes for a beloved AFI favourite. Peter O’Toole is outstanding in director David Lean’s hands. We, however, had trouble sorting out our feelings about this sandy epic. Find out why!
-
The Manchurian Candidate
28/07/2014 Duración: 52minThe T100P passes the halfway point with podcast #62, a paranoid, sweaty thriller. It’s also a satire, one that can see the humour in brainwashing, political power-grabs and multiple murders. Fantastic film. Check out our chat!
-
West Side Story
21/07/2014 Duración: 44minIf you like to snap and leap and prance whilst threatening brutal violence against your enemy, then the 61st edition of the T100P is right up your New York alley. Bev cannot contain her delight with this musical. Ryan’s delight is contained. Check it out!
-
Planet Of The Apes
07/07/2014 Duración: 42minMonkey Planet! Those damn simians are the focus of the 6th edition of The Not 100 Project. We talk about skimpy loincloths and twist endings. We make lots of Simpsons references and marvel at Chuck Heston’s broad performance. And we sing! Everything from chimpan-A to chimpan-Zee...
-
Psycho
30/06/2014 Duración: 54minJump in the shower for our 59th AFI review, but watch out for mama’s boys wielding butcher knives. One of the most famous scenes/scores/performances in movie history can all be found in Hitchcock’s most successful flick. Download...or face the wrath of Master Bates!
-
The Apartment
23/06/2014 Duración: 36minWe begin the ‘60s with Billy Wilder’s final AFI flick, a rom-com-dram starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine. Suicide, fraternization and corporate backstabbing: the keys to any comedy! This movie IS a delight though. Hit that button!
-
Ben-Hur
16/06/2014 Duración: 46minPaddling slaves, leprosy and chariots, baby! Good times. Charlton Heston is the scantily-clad title character and veteran of Old Hollywood William Wyler is at the helm. Huge production, huge hit. Also, we do a quick recap of the AFIers from the ‘50s. Hit it!
-
North By Northwest
09/06/2014 Duración: 42min“Bond before Bond” is one way to nutshell our 56th Top 100 podcast. Cary Grant is Mr. Suave despite being in constant danger. Eva-Marie Saint is a terrific foil and Alfred Hitchcock’s direction remains some of his best work. Initiate our take on NBN!
-
Some Like It Hot
02/06/2014 Duración: 36minThe AFI’s most revered comedy is the 55th edition of the T100P. Billy Wilder’s screwball cross-dressing flick has a fantastic trio in the starring roles (Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis and especially Jack Lemmon). It’s also one of the most enjoyable movies on this list. Go to it!
-
Vertigo
26/05/2014 Duración: 52minOne of our most contentious editions yet is the 54th AFI Top 100 podcast, Alfred Hitchcock’s Vertigo. It was an unloved flop in 1958, but it’s a revered classic 56 years later. Settle in for a lengthy gab-gab about Hitch, Kim, Jimmy Stew, and their tale of love, lust and lunacy.
-
The Bridge On The River Kwai
19/05/2014 Duración: 39minBridge On The River Kwai is the T100P’s 53rd podcast and it’s a jolly good show. War movies on the AFI list are always compelling, especially when David Lean is at the helm and Alec Guinness is losing his proper mind out in the Burmese jungle. So dust off your hat and your Geneva Conventions pamphlet and start collaborating with the enemy whilst hearing our chatter!
-
12 Angry Men
04/05/2014 Duración: 34minGet furious a dozen times because 12 Angry Men is the 52nd edition of the T100P. Director Sidney Lumet’s first film is a revered classic, despite its simplicity and black-and-whiteness. Sequester yourself with your listening device and find out if we dug Henry Fonda & friends doing their civic duty!
-
Giant
28/04/2014 Duración: 39minPodcast #51 hits us with racism, sexism and probably 1 or 2 other Giant Rock Hudson “isms”. The Texas soap opera ends the run of AFI movies for director George Stevens and star James Dean, maybe not a moment too soon. There’s much to discuss in this 200-moment movie, so time’s a-wastin’.
-
The Searchers
21/04/2014 Duración: 39minWe jump back on the John Wayne horse and cover another western in podcast #50. The Searchers is the AFI swan song for both the Duke and director John Ford. Their flick is a Bible for other film-makers. It isn’t perfect though. Our thoughts? They await you!
-
Rebel Without A Cause
14/04/2014 Duración: 40minYou’re tearing the T100P apart! Jimmy Dean brings his angst to the party in Rebel Without A Cause, the 49th look at AFI classics. But is this a true classic or just an overwrought guilty pleasure? You need to know, so hit that button!
