  • TPM Episode 407: Tommy Moe, Olympic Gold Medalist, Pro Skier

    04/11/2024 Duración: 01h15min

Tommy Moe is an absolute legend. This longtime US Ski Teamer is the only Olympic Downhill gold medalist I’ve had on the podcast. But Tommy’s life wasn’t always destined for glory. Between getting kicked off a ski team, to being put on probation by the US Ski Team, the future wasn’t always so promising. In part 1 of the podcast, we talk about ski racing, his issues, moving to Alaska, making the US Ski Team at a young age, the struggles of an athlete on the come up and the Albertville Olympic Games. It is a fun chat, and Tommy's US Ski Team teammate, Reggie Crist, asks the Inappropriate Questions. Tommy Moe Show Notes: 4:00:  Explosion, Tom Sr., Montana, relationship with his mom, living with Grandma, skiing, seeing racing and wanting to do it, podiums, and summer camps 21:00:  Stanley:  The brand that invented the category! • TPM Episode 406: Lou Dawson, Legendary Ski Mountaineer, Author

    28/10/2024 Duración: 01h19min

Lou Dawson is one of the most accomplished ski mountaineers in the US, but he’s so much more than that. While Lou is known for being the first to climb and ski Colorado’s 54 fourteen-thousand-foot peaks, his career included a rock-climbing era, an ice-climbing era, and his mountaineering and ski mountaineering ear. He’s a living legend and is considered to be one of the godfathers of backcountry skiing in the US. On the podcast, we talk about growing up in Texas, moving to Aspen, the counterculture movement, the draft, the mountains, his must-read book, Avalanche Dreams, and much more. Another legendary mountaineer, Andrew McLean, asks the Inappropriate Questions. Lou Dawson Show Notes: 4:00:  Avalanche, growing up in Texas, his dad, Ashcrofters Mountaineering School, NOLS, and challenging home life 21:00:  Thermic Heated Socks and Dissent Labs socks (non- heated) Stanley:  The brand that invented the category! • TPM Episode 405: Dana Flahr, Pro Skier

    21/10/2024 Duración: 01h20min

Dana Flahr wasn’t born to be the big mountain slayer he worked so hard to become. Growing up in a single-mom household, things were a struggle, but one thing Dana’s mom figured out was how to get him on the mountain and from there his passion took over. Moving to Whistler at 17, Dana didn’t party; he skied daily, honing his big mountain skills in the winter and building his trick vocabulary in the summer. That combination got him a tryout with TGR, where he sent it harder than almost anyone in their movies then. Over the years, he’s won Powder Awards, earned the respect of the best in the business, and banged out video jaw-dropping TGR segments and more each season. Eventually, burnout got the best of Dana, and he disappeared. We talk about it all and more on the podcast. Ian Macintosh asks the Inappropriate Questions. and that turned into Powder Awards Dana Flahr Show Notes: 4:00:  Not a risktaker early on, Kamloops, not growing up with money, getting into skiing, and an early avalanche, 13:00:  Poaching the

  • TPM Episode 404: Gordi Eaton, Olympian, US Ski Team Coach, Legend

    14/10/2024 Duración: 01h12min

Gordi Eaton is a legend in the ski industry, and while many people don’t know his name, because he was born in 1939, he’s had a huge impact in the development of modern ski technology. Before he was involved in helping to bring sidecut, shape, top shape, rocker, and so much more tech to the table, Gordi was an Olympian on the first Bob Beattie-created US Ski Teams that featured athletes like Bill Marolt and Buddy Werner. Then, after coaching at the highest level, Gordi became K2’s Race Director, a sales rep, and more. On the podcast, we discuss coming up with no grooming or releasable bindings, putting the Mahre Brothers on K2, and his history with George Torme and Bode Miller. This one’s a history lesson that needs to be told. Gordi Eaton Show Notes: 4:00: Climate change and snow, skiing in NH, no grooming, gruesome injuries due to gear, college scholarships, and the Olympics 20:30:  Thermic Heated Socks and Dissent Labs socks (non-heated) Stanley:  The brand that invented the category! • TPM Episode 403: Alex Armstrong, Pro Skier

    08/10/2024 Duración: 01h33min

Alexandra Armstong, better known as Army, has had one of the longest runways to making her pro skier dreams come true of any athlete I’ve had on the show. She has done every job in the industry, from working the shop floor to coaching, patrolling, flow riding to pro, and she’s dirtbagged it most of her way to the top. While she didn’t get paid to ski for cameras until she was 27, Army is making the most of her time in the spotlight filming with outfits like the Blank Collective and Teton Gravity Research. As a special bonus, we get Alex’s sock sponsor and new Powell Movement sponsor, Josh Hall, the founder of Dissent Labs, to talk about Whistler in the early 90s, founding a sock brand. Then Josh asks inappropriate questions provided by Blank’s Alexi Godbout and Emily Childs from The Blondes. Alex Armstrong Show Notes: 4:00:  Her truck nightmare, Cozy or Die, Mont Ste Marie, ski racing, making the regional ski team, Chile changes her life, quitting racing, who was she in HS, coaching, knee injury, tree planti

While Johnny spent his early life surfing in Southern California, ABC's Wide World of Sports inspired him to want to become a skier. These days, Johnny is a fixture behind the lens for the WSL, but when he was in his athletic prime, Johnny was a Pro Mogul skier alongside Shane McConkey, Scott Kauf, and so many more. Riley Poor landed his dream job, filming backcountry skiers with MSP. His life was a dream, and eventually, he moved on to shoot with Standard Films as a skier, spearheaded a two-year Red Bull project, all while simultaneously managing ski athletes at Nike. He was killing life until a gainer gone wrong at a party created a life-altering injury. On the podcast we talk about moving to Crested Butte, Seth Morrison, the Matchstick mentorship, the accident, and the aftermath.  It’s a must-listen podcast with one of the most beloved people in snow and beyond. 09/09/2024 Duración: 01h40min

Lindsey Jacobellis was the darling of the 2022 Olympic Games with her double gold performance. But while Lindsey has always been a podium threat (she’s a 10x X-Games Gold Medalist) when she crashed and took silver at the 2006 Olympic Games, the world made her a villain and now, almost 20 years later, she finally has that Olympic Gold. This episode is all about Lindsey’s incredible redemption story, and we talk about her upbringing, Palmer, the Olympic blunder, winning, and so much more. Alex Diebold asks Inappropriate Questions.  Lindsey Jacobellis Show Notes: 4:00:  Taking out a teacher, Stratton Mountain School, growing up in CT as the daredevil kid 12:00:  Chasing around her brother, being isolated, tight family, skiing, snowboarding, choosing one, 24:00:  Club Med:  Click here for the best vacation of your life Stanley:  The brand that invented the category! • TPM Episode 398: Alex Beaulieu-Marchand, Pro Skier, Olympic Medalist, TV Commentator

    02/09/2024 Duración: 01h27min

Alex Beaulieu-Marchand wasn’t born to be an Olympian. He was one of those core super-grom kids who skied the streets with his older friends. While other future Olympians were focused on adding rotations, ABM was focused on mastering rails, which would become his secret weapon. Through a random series of events, ABM found his way on to the Dew Tour and from there, the contest opened for the kid who liked skiing the streets. On the podcast, we talk urban, contests, not having a win-at-all-costs mentality, and a lot more. Alexi Godbout asks the Inappropriate Questions. Alex Beaulieu-Marchand Show Notes: 4:00:  Poop story, Goepper, not caring about winning, skiing is part of the family, no hockey for you, snowboarding and then focusing on skiing and being a grom 21:00:  Club Med:  Click here for the best vacation of your life Stanley:  The brand that invented the category! • TPM Episode 397: Best of Inappropriate Questions 2024

    26/08/2024 Duración: 01h03min

Inappropriate Questions is how I close out every podcast and it has become a fan favorite. I get someone my guest knows well to ask their friend 3 questions and they can be anything, the more inappropriate the better. This week I went back into the archive from episodes 294 to episode 356 and pulled the best IQ questions and answers. Think names like Tanner Hall, AJ Kitt, Peter Line, Rachael Burks, JT Holmes, Colby Stevensen and many others. • TPM Episode 396: Rick Thorne, BMX Legend, TV Personality, Singer

    19/08/2024 Duración: 01h14min

Rick Thorne is a BMX legend and the grind that he put in to achieve legendary status is why I do these podcasts. Rick wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth in a nice ski town. He grew up with a single mom, a sister, and the support of the infamous Kansas City bike crew, The BMX Brigade, led by Dennis McCoy. Through DMC, Rick saw a pathway to success, and, while it took a decade of grinding to make it happen for himself, Rick made it on his bike and headed west to the land of opportunity. The rest of the story is a total rollercoaster. On the podcast, we talk about the University of Olive Garden, the Hoffman influence, TV work, his band, and so much more. It’s a do not miss episode, and the Inappropriate Questions come from none other than Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla Rick Thorne Show Notes: 4:00: Poop story, being an artist, Tattoos, his dad leaving young, growing up in Kansan City and getting into BMX 19:00:  Liquid Force: Since 95, Liquid Force has outperformed the competition and turned a sport into

  • TPM Episode 395: Guenther Oka, Pro Wakeboarder

    12/08/2024 Duración: 01h06min

Guenther Oka was looked at as the best all-around wakeboarder in the world…and then he had a devastating knee injury.  While there was uncertainty, Guenther worked his ass off during physio, put out a Red Bull project and this year, he’s back to the competition scene.  With podiums in his first 3 events back, not only has Guenther not lost a step, but he’s stepped forward with a brand-new mindset, which could be scary for his competition. On the podcast, we talk about waterski bloodlines, coming up in Ohio, Wake Nation, touring, sponsors, money, and a lot more. Aaron Grace asks the Inappropriate Questions Guenther Oka Show Notes: 4:00:  The injury, The Wake Glade Project, coming back to contests, growing up in Ohio to water and ski bums 20:00:  Liquid Force: Since 95, Liquid Force has outperformed the competition and turned a sport into a lifestyle. 05/08/2024 Duración: 01h11min

Luke Edgar knows how to tell a story; he has one about everything, and it’s awesome. The dude always maximizes the gun meter.  If you listened to Part 1, you know what I’m talking about. Part 2 with Luke talking more about Festical, one of events that fills the pages of his proven brand building-sell through strategy playbook and then we move on to discussing his moves to Atomic, Rossignol, Ogio, Skullcandy and Traeger. It’s another fun conversation, and Dave Billinghurst asks the Inappropriate Questions. • TPM Episode 393: Luke Edgar K2, Atomic, Rossignol, Ogio, Skullcandy, Traeger

    29/07/2024 Duración: 01h20min

Luke Edgar has had a legendary career in building lifestyle brands and keeping them not only relevant but in demand. What makes Luke’s story so wild is that while his history goes back to the early days of snowboarding, the reason he pursued a career in “action sports” is because he learned to surf while he was in the army. And when he got out, his life revolved around snowboarding when the sport was in its infancy in the PNW. On the podcast we talk about the early PNW snowboard scene, modeling, Craig Kelly, trade shows, getting sponsored, K2 and so much more. John O’Connor asks the Inappropriate Questions. Tom van Steenbergen is known for going huge and setting records with the gigantic front flips that have become his signature. We chatted a week after Tom won his first X Games Gold Medal and a time when everything seems to be firing for Tom. While he’s not known for being a big talker, you wouldn’t know it as Tom is not afraid to share. On the podcast, we talk about dirt bikes, BMX racing, Canada, sponsorship, his long Rampage career, injuries, and a whole lot more. • TPM Episode 391: Tommy Czeschin, Pro Snowboarder, Pro Wakesurfer, Olympian

    15/07/2024 Duración: 58min

Tommy Czeschin was born into a life of mountains and lakes, so it’s no surprise that he loves snowboarding and water sports-but what’s shocking is that he was able to go pro in both. Not too bad for the quiet kid with talent who started ski racing and was the forerunner for the Jr Olympics before seeing snowboarding and making the switch. Within 5 years, he was traveling the world with the US Snowboard Team, standing on the top of World Cup podiums, winning X Games medals, and eventually making the 2002 Olympic Team.  After his snowboarding, he was an early adopter of wake surfing and these days, he gets paid to ride behind a boat among other things. It’s kind of like Deion Sanders, Bo Jackson, or a Shaun White-type story, only different. Don Wallace asks the “Inappropriate Questions” Tommy Czeschin Show Notes: 4:00:  Wake Surf trips, growing up near Mammoth, ski racing, and snowboarding    12:00:  Early contests, Mammoth snowboard team, making the US Snowboard Team and the traveling family 19:00:  Liquid

  • TPM Episode 390: Red Gerard, Pro Snowboarder, Olympic Gold Medalist

    08/07/2024 Duración: 01h05min

Red Gerard has won every slopestyle event out there: The Olympics, X Games, Dew Tour, World Cups, Grand Prix, you get the idea and Red is only 23 years old. While his life will be defined by his Olympic Gold, Red’s snowboarding career isn’t all about contests. He’s just as comfortable taking his trick vocabulary to the backcountry and laying it down for his film segments. The beauty of Red is that while he’s young, he’s also kind of throwback. A kid who takes pride in competing, filming, and having a good time off the hill…On the podcast we talk about coming up in a big family, snowboarding, getting screwed by judges, sponsorship, contests and so much more. Chris Waker asks the Inappropriate Questions Red Gerard Show Notes: 4:00: Travis Rice, judging, Ohio, family, Colorado, pride in doing both contests and filming, sponsor boxes, and his crew 19:30:   Liquid Force: Since 95, Liquid Force has outperformed the competition and turned a sport into a lifestyle. • TPM Episode 389: Summer X Games 2024

    01/07/2024 Duración: 01h18min

The X Games is the pinnacle event in action sports, and while it’s not what it once was, the new ownership group, MSP Sports Capital, plans to not only turn that around but make the X Games property bigger than ever. There’s a lot of excitement around the new regime and its plans, and the X Games media team invited me down to get my unbiased take on what X Games has turned into. As I do with all my events, I make sure to talk to athletes, legends, behind-the-scenes players, and more to uncover the future of X and give you insight into what X was like this year. 23/06/2024 Duración: 01h23min

Ace Kvale has lived the ultimate ski bum life but he’s no bum, Ace is a legend. A Midwest kid who hitchhiked his way west at 18 for bigger mountains and a better lifestyle. After a few years of resort hopping, Ace made his way to Europe, connected with Marko Shapiro, and became part of the original Clambin Crew. He started out living in a chalet in Verbier, traveling the world skiing for the camera, and he climbed in the summertime. Eventually, Ace’s life transitioned to working behind the lens and is an award-winning photographer who focuses his talents on shooting adventure. This podcast is one of those must-listen history lessons from one of the original stoked ski bums. Stanley Larsen asks the Inappropriate Questions.
