I’ve known Yassir since he was a doorman at The Improv back in my early Los Angeles days, and he’s certainly taken off like a rocket. He’s a male model (like myself), just ask him. Black Monday is his most recent credit, and his IMDB is impressive, but I know him more as an amazing, fearless standup and a writer on a TON of shows. He’s also one of my friends with a serious dichotomy in his life, that of his online presence and the way he is in person. He’s gone in hard on folks on twitter and other social media platforms, but in person he’s a thoughtful self-effacing dude. Comedian Brent Terhune joins me this week all the way from Indiana by way of Comedy Itself. So as many of you know, my wife and I drove our baby daughter 3,000 miles across the country to escape the fiery California air about a month ago. We also left so my in-laws could meet baby Rose, their granddaughter. What can I say about my friend Martha Kelly? She’s low key one of the funniest comedians alive, hands down. Low key being a key descriptor of her style. Martha is dry as a bone onstage, but offstage she’s always been a really warm and helpful friend (don’t tell her I said that). You probably know her from her entire-series-stealing work on “Baskets,” but of late she’s become synonymous with not taking an ounce of shit from trolls on Twitter. My cousin Tom is an author of books (The Disaster Artist, Extra Lives, God Lives in St. Petersburg) and video games (Gears of War). He’s also an awesome dude who has I met late in life and formed a fast friendship with.
