The security and surveillance departments of any casino are like the umpires and referees at sporting events. The less you hear from them, the better. But if you do hear from them, it better be the solution to any problem. Willy and Jo Allison are the founders of the World Game Protection Conference and each year they gather hundreds of S&S executives in Las Vegas to talk about the challenges of those departments. Each conference is  unique and they talk about what they’ll be presenting at this year’s WGPC at the Tropicana in Las Vegas, February 27-29. Two years ago, Jim Allen completed negotiations with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on a new tribal compact between the state and the Seminole Tribe. The compact gives the tribe a monopoly over sports betting in Florida and allows for the addition of craps and roulette games to their casinos, in exchange for millions of dollars in annual payments to the state. Although the compact was held up for two years due to litigation, that legal stay was recently lifted to allow those issues to be resolved. Just two weeks before the Super Bowl, Asher talks about this year’s contest in Las Vegas, how the variety of prop bets grows every year and why the matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs should encourage a record amount of bets. He also talks about sports betting in general and discusses his role as chairman of the Wilson Center, a federal agency that advises Congress.
