Ep 200. Seth Godin: Make a Ruckus
05/04/2019 Duración: 33minAbout Our Guest In his own words: “For more than thirty years, I’ve been trying to turn on lights, inspire people and teach them how to level up.” His blog has been appearing daily for more than a decade. I’ve spent most of his professional life as a writer and published 19 bestselling books. More than 60,000 people have taken his online courses (including me). Over the past 15 years, I had many ups and downs in my life and the one guru I kept turning to without ever meeting in person was Seth Godin. As soon as I’m blocked, having serious doubts, I will pick up a book by Seth Godin, and it almost didn’t matter which one I chose. Years after I discovered Seth and his work, I found myself joining his altMBA (session #8) in early 2017, which was quite early on and friended people I still speak with every single week. In many ways, Seth is a teacher who’ll always be incomparable and irreplaceable. Turns out, it’s the case with most people who follow his work. In 2018, I decided to make Feisworld’s first doc

His most recent project is the popular HBO TV Show called Barry, for which he worked as a writer and co-producer. Plus his own projects - Gentleman Lobsters and Meet Cute. Born and raised in Lexington, MA - Ben’s mom is Chinese so we were able to chat about what it means to grow up multi-cultural. Since most writers in Hollywood still are mostly white male, Ben talks about diversity and how it’s important in the writer’s room. Still in his 20s, you may be wondering how Ben got his first job and survive the competitive landscape of not only being a writer, but talented and lucky enough to work his way up. He’s incredibly humble and shared his own experience since college. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/message Supp

01/03/2019 Duración: 51minEd Gregory, founder of Photos in Color on YouTube, is a master photographer in Lightroom, Photoshop and photography tutorials. Ed is the second successful YouTube we’ve interviewed on the show (first guest was Bob from FlavCity). With nearly 300K subscriber on Youtube, over 15 million page viewers, Ed is quite a celebrity among the people who follow his work. (A side note on how YouTubers make money: it actually has nothing to do with the number of subscribers but individual video viewership and how much of the ad someone watches. In addition, many YouTubers get paid through sponsorships and collaborations, which he will speak to as well as part of this episode!) Ep 194. How Podcasters Make (More) Money Without Advertisers and Sponsors
22/02/2019 Duración: 09minTwo years ago, my beloved mentor Dorie Clark and I had coffee near the financial district in New York City. I told her how my podcast was the trigger for my business, Feisworld. I left my full-time job in advertising and began freelancing as a digital producer for companies and people. Many of them met me through the podcast as guests, friends of guests, and even listeners. She urged me to write a blog post, and I came up with a name I was quite proud of called “How to Make a Living Without Counting the Downloads”. Within months, Dorie interviewed me and captured the essence of my story and published it in Entrepreneurial You, her best-selling book on Amazon, and an article where many people found me and learned about my work on Harvard Business Review. Shortly after my encounter with Dorie, I realized that I couldn't possibly be the only lucky, independent, under the radar podcaster who’s benefited from having her own show. I decided to write this blog post, record it as a podcast episode and share with th

By implementing Zero Waste Patterns, we are able to strategically drape the fabric in such a way so little to no materials are wasted.” Malaika is originally from Denmark. After working in logistics for a number of years in the U.S., she was ready for a career change. To her surprise, she was admitted into Parsons in her late 20s. Upon graduation and with various internship experience, she founded Malaika. This is her story. Ep 192. Welcome to the Year of the Pig!
08/02/2019 Duración: 11minOn February 5th, 2019, we celebrated the Chinese New Year, also known as the year of the pig! This is going to be a colorful and dare I say, delicious episode! Nearly 200 episodes of the Feisworld Podcast have been released, and we’ve spent a good amount of time talking about China, where I grew up, but we’ve yet covered any topics on traditions, myths, taboos, superstitions. Instead of going right back to the Docuseries minis and regular interview episodes, I thought it’s an opportunity for us to have a quick chat about the Chinese New Year. Ep 190. Docuseries Mini 106: How to seek out the right people for your docuseries team?
25/01/2019 Duración: 11minWho helped you make this film? For a while (and still today), people ask me this question all the time. Knowing that I didn’t come from a filmmaking background, I clearly didn’t do this on my own. Nobody can shoot a docuseries by himself. Well, not the type of docuseries we are going after anyway. I heard the smallest successful team can be just two people. You can find their stories on YouTube, pretty amazing actually. Our story is kinda memorable too. Of the three people I traveled with, two of them worked for the Blue Man Group, and the third person is a Mrs. Blue Man :) If you are an entrepreneur like me running a small company or creating a video series, hiring is inevitable. It’s a lot of work, but if you are lucky, the right people perhaps are already present in your life who are eager to jump on a project with you. Otherwise, follow some of my learnings to create your dream team! Visit us on feisworld.com for more Docuseries mini episodes https://www.feisworld.com/for-docuseries-filmmakers/ ---

Ep 188. Your help needed: Let’s make Feisworld better and create new stories together!
11/01/2019 Duración: 09minEvery year, I reinvent a little bit more of myself and my business. So will Feisworld be different in 2019 than 2018, 2017? I say, hell yeah. Today, I find myself spending nearly all my spare time with people who are insatiably curious about other cultures and creating new things on their own. Their skin colors, the language they speak, the gods they pray to, don’t matter. There is a significant portion of the people whom I’m close to and seek inspirations from are first-generation immigrants (The term "first-immigrant" refers to the very first immigrants or to the children of such an immigrant.). Many of my immigrant friends are also minorities in America (Asian, Hispanic, African American, and the LGBTQ community) Although I’m just one person who is an immigrant and a minority, I often feel empowered and enlighten by the stories I learn from this very community. What are the immigrant stories you’d like to hear? --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/feisworld/message Support this podcast: htt

By extended, we mean beyond 7 days, because that’s when it gets tricky! Another layer of complexity on top of being away from home is that you want to look good for your film. Ep 185. Docuseries Mini 104: How to Market Your Docuseries (Bonus: Tips for Marketing Overseas)
21/12/2018 Duración: 14minAs I’m traveling in multiple cities in China, it made sense to report live from the East! At the time of this recording, I was on a train from Shanghai to Beijing, preparing for another mini-episode seemed like the perfect way to reflect. Traveling is exciting but the up and down time in between cities make me feel unsettled at times. In this episode, I want to talk about how to market your docuseries before post-production is done. Marketing is required, not optional. More docuseries minis can be found on our website: https://www.feisworld.com/podcast-docuseries-minis Have you listened to this episode once or twice? [Rebroadcast] David Williamson: Ringmaster of Circus 1903
30/11/2018 Duración: 56minDo you believe in magic? For the first time ever, we welcomed a professional magician, David Williamson, to the Feisworld Podcast. David is currently touring in the US in a circus called Circus 1903, a brand new show from the producers of The Illusionists and the puppeteers of War Horse. It's a fun celebration of the golden age of circus. Their most recent stop was in Boston, MA. (Feisworld HQ!) I fell in love with David's performance instantly. The audience was naturally and completely captivated by his words, his humor, and his incredible talent of improvising with children ages 5-9 on stage.
