TCF Ep. 284 - Matt Sweeney
27/07/2015 Duración: 48minHollywood is a town that has been defined more by its myths than its realities. It's a town built on fiction and endless aspirations. So, photographs that are free from the influence of publicists and marketing teams can seem jarring and surprising. But that can be a good thing. That's what Matt Sweeney's photographs do. They show an unexpected and beautiful side of Hollywood in the early eighties, where the 1-mile stretch between Hollywood and Vine and Hollywood and Highland was a setting of public theater with every kind of character, both big and small. Taken during his early twenties using a Nikon SLR with Kodachrome film, his images of Los Angeles capture a unique time in a way that's rare and wonderful. TCF Ep. 271 - Matt Stuart
30/03/2015 Duración: 49minBorn in 1974, Matt Stuart was raised in the leafy suburbs of Harrow, North West London. He admits to a less than distinguished school career, but was called upon aged 11 to play a trumpet solo in front of the Queen Mother. Her Majesty’s reaction is not recorded. A little later, in 1986, Matt discovered skateboarding after watching the film “Back to the Future”. Skating occupied his every waking moment until 1994, when he looked up from the half-pipe and noticed that girls had got a lot more interesting. He also indulged in a brief, ill-advised affair with Kung Fu. Matt’s father, keenly aware that his son would never be the next Bruce Lee, introduced him to photography, handing over books by Robert Frank & Henri Cartier-Bresson. Ever since then, photography has been Matt’s overriding passion, although he’s still quite interested in skateboards and girls. (But thankfully not Kung Fu). TCF Ep. 265 - Kale Friesen
02/02/2015 Duración: 42minKale Friesen was born into the expansive vistas of Saskatchewan in 1981. At a very young age Kale became immersed in art and knew that he was destined to work in the arts. Kale spent his entire youth painting, drawing and playing music, and it wasn’t until he discovered photography that Kale understood how best he could realize his aesthetic vision. In 2001 Kale headed west to Vancouver BC where he continued my love of arts, music and skateboarding. A hunger to see the world and be inspired, Kale moved to Paris, France in 2006 to focus on his artistic pursuits. After visiting the Fondation Cartier-Bresson on a summer afternoon in 2007 he knew in that instant that the only thing he wanted to do was make photographs. The people and architecture of Paris became Kale’s photography school. While in living in Europe Kale began shooting on the streets of Paris every day and traveling to abandoned spaces in France and Belgium, experimenting with Fine Art photography and street photography.
