Sitting Around Talking Movies

Robert DeNiro is back in the boxing ring but this time as a trainer in "Hands of Stone." So Neil Rosen, Bill MCCuddy, Bill Bregoli and guest Jack Rico put on their gloves to see how this Roberto Duran biopic measures up. Then it's off the the chariot races with the new "Ben Hur." And if that's not enough we look at "Blood Father" starring Mel Gibson as well as the ensemble film "The Intervention" and the indie "Sea of Trees." As always, we don't pull any punches. 

We all know Meryl Streep can do anything, even sing. But what if she sings badly, on purpose? Is it enough to get her an Oscar? Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy, Bill Bregoli and Justine Browning discuss this new Stephen Frears movies and Meryl's chances. Plus we take on the new dramedy starring Jonah Hill and Miles Teller called "War Dogs." Does it work? Is Jonah really a jerk? Holy Cow! Has it really been a couple of weeks since the last superhero movie? How did Earth survive? Well, worry no more because "Suicide Squad" is here from the folks at Warner Bros. and DC Comics. How does it measure up against the Marvel movies? Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy and Bill Bregoli pull out their superhero yardsticks to find out. Bill Bregoli also has a behind the scenes look at the junket Warners put on to publicize it. We also look at "Keanu," which the big screen debut of Key and Peel as well as the on-demand title "Five Nights in Maine."

Bourne is back so Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy, Bill McCuddy and special guest Roger Friedman of Showbiz 41 gather 'round to see if "Jason Bourne" is worth the 9 year wait. We also look at the musical drama "Sing Street" and the post apocalytic drama "Into the Forest" which stars Ellen Page. The we look at the waterfall-kayak documentary "Chasing Niagra" as well as the career of the late and legendary director Garry Marshall.

"Star Trek Beyond" is entering our galaxy so Neil Rosen, Bill Mccuddy, Bill Bregoli and guest Mike Sargent take on this latest installment in the rebooted franchise. Plus we look at the Miles Davis biopic "Miles Ahead" which is now available on demand as well as Woody Allen's latest "Cafe Society." And since that title has us whetting our appetites we talk about food movies and Neil has an idea for any foodies visiting the Hamptons soon. Then we talk about the only movie about a Maori chess prodigy you'll see this year called "The Dark Horse." The next move is yours... 

There's a new "Ghostbusters" in town so Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy and Bill Bregoli had to call our expert in all things geeky, Jack Rico, to give his take on this new female-centric version. Does it ruin your childhood (as one blogger feared) or just send you to therapy? Then Neil looks at "The Secret Life of Pets" and Jack explains his dog (there's a poodle in there somewhere). Then we look at "Len and Company" and "The Duel" which are available on-demand. It's culture and ecto-plasm all in one podcast! 

Bill McCuddy is back, rested and ready and he joins Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy and guest Caryn James of The Holly wood Reporter to talk about this week's crop of on-deman and DVD releases. There's the Hank Williams biopic "I Saw the Light" starring Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen. There's also "By the Sea," starring and directed by Angelina Jolie, excuse me, Angelina Jolie Pitt with co-star Brad Pitt (or Brad just plain Pitt). And there's also the Tim Roth thriller "600 Miles." We also talk about the death and career of director Michael Cimino.

What does "The BFG" mean? Well, Neil Rosen, Bill Bregoli and guest Justine Browning will explain the title of this lastest from Steven Speilberg and whether it's up to snuff with his past efforts. We also look at some of Steve Spielberg's best and worst films which you may want to consider re-watching. We also look at some new on-demand titles including the retro 70's-style thriller "Carnage Park" and the Iranian drama "September of Shiraz." And for you DVD fans there's the newly released "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot" starring Tina Fey and Margot Robbie. It's BFG and WTF in the same show - all your favorite acronyms!

"Independence Day: Resurgence" may be attacking your local multiplex but Neil Rosen, Bill Bregoli and Perri Nemiroff of "Collider" weren't invited to see it in advance. But that doesn't stop us from wondering why. But we have seen and do talk about the Disney animated phenom  "Zootopia," which is now on DVD and well as on-demand titles "The Phenom" and "Knight Of Cups." Plus Bill Bregoli has what Matthew McConaughey says about his historical action film "Free State of Jones." And we also discuss the untimely passing of Anton Yelchin. Things we can and can't talk about...but somehow do anyway.

It's been 13 years since "Finding Nemo" but now we have the sequel "Finding Dory" so Neil Rosen, Bill Bregoli and special guest Chris Nashawaty from EW take a look at this latest offering from Pixar and all the sea creatures involved (some of which are delicious with melted butter). We also look at JJ Abrams'  "10 "Cloverfield Lane," Hello My Name Is Doris," "No Stranger Than Love" and "45 Years" which stars two veteran actors at the top of their game. Better later than never, that's what we say!

It's time to take on a new slew of movies available on DVD as well as on demand so Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy, Bill Bregoli and special guest Mike Sargent look at "A War" as well and "Genius" and the very original "King Jack." And since we can't have enough war we also discuss the controversial Michael Bay mvoie "13 Hours." We also discuss Johnny Depp's personal and career travails and movies with and about the late Muhammed Ali. Fussin' and fightin' - it's what we're good at.

The "weeper" "You Before Me" starring GOT's Emilia Clarke (but no dragons) and Hunger Games' Sam Claflin may be aimed towards a female audience but that doesn't stop Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy and Bill Bregoli from giving their (very divided) opinions on it. We also hear what the two stars and author/screenwriter JoJo Moyes have to say about making it. But we don't stop there. We also take on "Manhattan Night" and the historical biopic "Race" as well as the ensemble drama "Triple Nine."

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is the latest superhero in theaters which means it's the perfect time to bring in superhero savant Jack Rico to join regular hosts Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy and Bill Bregoli. If you have trouble telling which superhero is which Jack's the guy to set you straight. We also take on the live-action Disney sequel "Alice Through the Looking Glass" with Johnny Depp and Mia Wasikowska and the Chris Pine adventure movie "The Finest Hours" (quick, when was the last time you saw a movie about the Coast Guard?). And then we discuss the ensemble comedy "How to Be Single."

In this week's episode, which doubles as a drinking game, Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy, Bill Bregoli and special guest Perris Nemiroff of the site Collider talk about the new Ryan Gosling / Russell Crowe buddy comedy "The Nice Guys" as well as the indy thriller "The Witch" with exclusive soundbites from its breakout star Anya Taylor-Joy. We also take a look at "Embrace of the Serpent" and the Oscar-nominated documentary "Song of Lahore" as well as Whit Stillman's latest take on Jane Austen called "Love and Friendship" which stars Kate Beckinsale.

Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy, Bill Bregoli and Logan Hill put on their bibs and talk about the bizarre new Colin Farrell film "The Lobster" but before that they talk about the amazing Turkish film "Mustang" about growing up female in repressed country - it's a film that caught everyone by surprise and has some of us wondering if it should have won the Best Foreign Language Film at the last Oscars. We also take on the drama starring comedian Sarah Silverman titled "I Smile Back" and we hear what Ms. Silverman has to say about it.

"Captain America: Civil War" is so huge it takes 5 of us to talk about it. Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy, Bill Bregoli and Caryn James are so amazed by this latest money machine from Marvel that we brought in Jack Rico to help us out. Jack is a walking encyclopedia when it comes to all things Superhero and he make sense of this monstrous movie. We also cover the documentary "Elstree 1976" and the new on-deman film "Mothers and Daughters." And if that's not enough we also talk about the recent White House Correspondents Dinner.

The "Taxi Driver" reunion is topic one for Neil Rosen, Bill Mccuddy, Bill Bregoli and special guest Mike Sargent. Find out which of Neil's questions Jodie Foster wouldn't answer on the red carpet. We also talk about the Tribeca Film Festival in general as well as the new movie "High-Rise" with Tom Hiddleston. Christopher Walken, who's heard in the smash hit "The Jungle Book," has a good old fashioned acting role (where you can actually see him) in "The Family Fang" which also happens to be directed by Justin Bateman. Plus there's the new indie film "Elvis and Nixon," starring Michael Shannon and Kevin Spacey which is about, well, Elvis and Nixon. Then there's a fairy tale for adults called "Tale of Tales." Disney's latest animated classic turned into a live-action extravaganza is "The Jungle Book" and Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy , Bill Bregoli and Justine Browning unleash their inner beasts on it. Is it worth taking your young 'uns to it? And how are the voice-overs by Bill Murray and Christopher Walken? We also wonder what other Disney classics could get the live-action treatment as well.
