  • S2 Ep2: Could Video Game Arcades Return? S2E2

    13/02/2020 Duración: 33min

Press X and your podcast will be revived and then spam everyone's podcast feed - Stage 2. This time on Press X, the two Rob's open the show by talking about the ways in which gaming consoles could evolve in the future. This was recorded just prior to Google Stadia, which we don't pre-empt, we predict a few things a bit more ambitious. Then, in the second half, as the old gamers that we are, we ask the utterly pointless question of whether the arcade could actually return whilst suggesting a few ideas for how they could. We know they won't return, seriously, we do, but just humour us, okay? If you like the podcast, send some support by visiting our PATREON. • S2 Ep1: Can Video Games Be Scary? S2E1

    11/02/2020 Duración: 39min

We moved to YouTube, and now we are bringing all that content to all the audio heads out there. In these episodes, two videos are smooshed into one fantastic new audio podcast. We will be releasing the entire archive this way before we do a big relaunch of the show, so stay tuned for that. That's running off into the sunset though, let's focus on now, for now. On this episode, [the] Rob's talk about whether Video Games can truly be scary and in the second half, we ask whether there is room for another football game to muscle in on the market dominated by FIFA, and, to a lesser extent, PES?  If you like the podcast, send some support by visiting our PATREON. • S1 Ep38: PX38 - What Would Make You Boycott A Game

    25/01/2019 Duración: 47min

Tis the season to be grumpy, and nobody complains like a gamer (or spits their pacifier out/throws their toys out of the pram). Now there are plenty of reasons to complain about a game (micro-transactions, pay-walls, pay-to-win, gorily-detailed hunting, forcing developers to censor their games after signing exclusivity contracts, etc), but some are more valid than others - and yes, we are looking very pointedly at the developers of Playing History 2: Slave Trade here. Anyway, before we get into the meat of the show there’s a bit of time for Producer Rob to introduce to the joys of Moonlighter - an indie dungeon crawler with shop mechanics from Digital Sun and 11 bit Studios that he’s bee addicted to recently.   After that it’s time for Andy and Mark to join the fray for this week’s big question - What Would Make You Boycott a Video Game?  If you've enjoyed this podcast then please share us with your friends or leave us a rating on your podcast app of choice. • S1 Ep37: PX37 - Video Games Set In The Wild West

    30/11/2018 Duración: 39min

Andy, Mark and Producer Rob join forces once again to tackle some of the interesting topics about video games, and with the release of the highly-anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 the gang decide to take a look at the games set in the Old West. But before all of that it’s time to catch up with what we’ve been playing and as usual, everybody’s got something different with Mark pouring more hours into Dragon Quast XI: and the Kemono Friedns puzzle game, Andy investigating ancient ruins and the art of the suplex in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and WWE 2K19, and Rob exploring the remarkably strange world of Yakuza Kiwami 2. After that it’s time to grab a six-shooter, saddle-up, and ride through the wastelands of video game nostalgia to find out why the Old West is an inspirational yet marginalised time period in the medium. And like any good gunslinger, they pay special attention to the horses. If you've enjoyed this podcast then please follow us on Twitter @TGS_TheGeekShow, or on other social media by s

  • S1 Ep36: PX36 - How Did Incomplete Games Become the Norm?

    08/11/2018 Duración: 39min

Video games are a multi-billion dollar industry, so why has it become normal for developers and publishers to release unfinished games? Join Andy and Rob as they investigate this peculiar problem, and also why a bunch as salty as gamers continue to allow the industry to get away with it. With some relevant unfinished games (Final Fantasy X (US version), Knights of the Old Republic II, STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl, Metal Gear Solid V), Agatha Christie, Sherlock Holmes, horse armour, developers, publishers, streamers, fast-food and more, there’s something for everyone on this episode of **Press X.** #TheGeekShow #VideoGames #Gaming #News #Nintendo #PS4 #Switch #PC #XboxOne #PressX #EA #ElectronicArts #Handheld #Consoles #Sony #Microsoft #StarWars #KnightsOfTheOldRepublic #STALKER #ShadowOfChernobyl #MetalGearSolid #ThePhantomPain #AgathaChristie #SherlockHolmes #HorseArmour #TheElderScrolls #Oblivion #Bioware #Bethesda #Fallout #NewVegas #DeathStranding #Konami #HideoKojima #Games #Youtube #Twitch #Steam

  • PX35 - What Counts As Video Game Merchandise?

    29/10/2018 Duración: 44min

Merchandising has long been part of the lifeblood of entertainment and media (who wouldn’t want a plushie of the Demogorgon from Stranger Things), but sometimes the products associated with a particular title can head in some strange, disturbing and bizarre directions. After a quick chat about the games that they’re currently playing (Shenmue Remastered, Spider-Man (PS4), and Dragon Quest XI), it’s time for Andy, Mark and Producer Rob to venture into the dark alleys of video games merchandise. 15/10/2018 Duración: 54min

With all of the remakes, reboots and remasters that are going around in video games these days, it seems like developers and publishers are determined to plumb the depths of gaming history to unearth some long-forgotten treasures. • PX33 - Are Collector’s Editions Worth The Money?

    25/09/2018 Duración: 53min

The video games market is expensive and over-saturated, but collector’s editions, special editions and the ubiquitous “game of the year” editions have generally held a special place in the hearts and wallets of gamers. The question is, are they really worth all of that extra money? Gaming is, after all, an expensive hobby, and not everyone has a bottomless wallet. Join Andy, Mark and Producer Rob as they venture down one what turns out to be one of gaming’s stranger rabbit holes in an effort to find out. #TheGeekShow #VideoGames #Gaming #News #Nintendo #PS4 #Switch #PC #XboxOne #PressX #SquareEnix #Handheld #Consoles #Sony #Microsoft #Nintendo #CollectorsEditions #SpecialEditions #GameOfTheYear #PSVita #3DS #Bioware #Bethesda #Codemasters

  • PX32 - What Games Are You Proud Of Completing?

    04/09/2018 Duración: 40min

On the last episode we challenged each other to play a game that we owned that we didn't buy and wasn't released this year, and the results are definitely … weird. Andy found himself playing an obscure online game called Dino D-Day and the Omen-esque horror Lucius 2\. On the other hand, Mark sample the "My First JRPG" mechanics of Guardian's Crusade on the PS1 before he got distracted and wound up playing Stranded Kids on the Gameboy Color. As for Producer Rob, he decided to take Dragoneer's Aria on the PSP for a spin. Anyway, our main discussion this week is about the games that we've completed, in particular the ones that we're proud of completing, which naturally leads us on to the subject of trophies and achievement hunting … If you've enjoyed this podcast, then please follow us on Twitter @TGS_TheGeekShow or on other social media by searching for [The Geek Show](http://thegeekshow.co.uk). • PX31 - How Many Games Haven't You Finished?

    01/08/2018 Duración: 40min

Like movies and music, video games are one of those strange things that you wind up collecting without thinking about it. They just seem to accumulate over time until your risk life and limb trying to sort through them. But how many of them have you actually played properly, and more importantly how many of them have you finished? Join the Press X gang who, after a brief chat about Conan: Exiles, Theme Park, Farcry Arcade and Touhou Kabuto Burst Battle, wax nostalgic about games magazines, demo discs (and tapes), and other unfinished tales of their childhood. • PX30 - Are Google Making a Games Console?

    08/07/2018 Duración: 34min

Everybody wants to get into video games, but rumour has it that perpetual late starters Google (think about it), are making their own console. So what does that mean for the manufacturers like Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo? After our usual look at what we’ve been playing (Panzermadels, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit, Gravel and Onrush), Mark, Andy and Prob stare at Google and take an irreverent journey through video games before somehow winding up in a very strange classroom … If you've enjoyed this podcast, then please follow us on Twitter @TGS_TheGeekShow or on other social media by searching for The Geek Show. 08/08/2017 Duración: 01h09min

Press X returns to talk about more games that we've been playing recently, video games publishers and developers that are trading in nostalgia, and the rise and fall and rise of the point-and-click genre. This week we've been playing a veritable smorgasbord of games, from the mobile-to-PC port First Strike: Final Hour and beat-'em-up but not-quite-sequel Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, to the nostalgia-fest that is Yooka-Laylee and the Haruki Murakami-themed point-and-click adventure Memoranda. • PX22 - Anime and Arms, Anime and Cut Scenes

    31/07/2017 Duración: 01h01min

We're a video games podcast aren't we? Maybe? It depends on the day I guess? This week we have a plateful of anime-themed gaming for your tastebuds. First up we have the release of the rarest thing in gaming - a new Nintendo franchise - with a slightly surreal punch-'em-up called Arms. After that we launch into a trio of titles with a strong connection to anime, starting with Accel World Vs. Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight before moving on to the much-anticipated Valkyria Revolution, and finally finishing with God Wars: Future Past - a tactical JRPG that takes a lot of inspiration from the Kojiki and other parts of Japanese folklore. Next time out we'll return to being a video games podcast, possibly. Until then, don't play anything we wouldn't play. A quick rummage around the box of games leads to a very mixed bag of things to play, including Cladun Returns: This is Sengoku!, DiRT 4, Micro Machines: World Series and Dark Rose Valkyrie, and as if that wasn't enough, we also talk about early gaming memories.
