He keeps a low profile on purpose because he prefers being heard and not seen. Although he has played for many famous people, he loves living a life where, once the party is over, he literally blends back in to a modest everyday life, recognized by no one...except those with discerning ears.Marv loves music. His pursuits to share his affinity for celebratory music that enlivens, emboldens and inspires is his motivation. His first goal when he began to DJ was to make a mixed cassette tape that would be enjoyed so much that people would copy it for their friends and encourage them to listen to it. Caring nothing about earning cash, at first, Marv just wanted to be heard and shared.Marv's earnest approach to DJing included respecting the craft and developing his skill so that he would be heard and regarded as a 'real DJ' (based on old-school definitions: Seamless mixing of his great record/music collection, flow and ability to read crowds). Marv's attention to performance detail combined with an open mind about including off-chart music in his repertoire caught the attention of a few major players in the music, fashion and television industry. In 1995, Terry Lewis (of Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis) gave Marv, who was employee of his Perspective Records label, the chance to play a warm up set at a venue called Tramps for the band Mint Condition. The owner of Tramps approached Marv about being the opening DJ for shows that featured 'urban' music and Marv got to open for artists ranging from Erykah Badu to George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic to the Fugees, A Tribe Called Quest, The Roots, Chic, Rick James and Outkast.Marv solidified his status as the in-house DJ for Tramps and that led to an opportunity to work on a legendary night that would introduce him to many elites in the entertainment industries. Prince had a show at Madison Square Garden and he'd set up an after party and jam session to take place at Tramps and Marv was there to keep the crowd happy while they waited a couple of hours for Prince to arrive. In the crowd was a vice-president at Viacom who connected with Marv, and soon, Marv was playing at events for MTV, VH1 and Nickelodeon.Since Marv essentially leapfrogged the club scene and found favor in New York's special events industry, Marv never pursued gigs at large and popular clubs. Since Marv didn't feel good about being part of bottle service club scenes where people paid as much as they would to take a vacation, for one night out - Marv chose to play at modes

Zambezi Kind of Love - A Gift Mix for + from Danielle + Hywell
25/04/2013 Duración: 01h07minCompiled by Dan & Hy, woven into a love story by Marv. And theirs is a true love story, spanning continents. Décollage comes from the French word décoller (take off, unstick). Décollage in French also means "take off" during airplane travel. How does that matter? There was a walk, with wine, on a once in a life time fine line. He didn't get the chance to say yes, she changed her dress. Impressed and interest, she read his eyes and guessed, 'You got the love.' Seeing soul through the diamonds the shoes, oh baby, he knew what he knew, 'She's the one to care for.' He thought that if he could get her to the Zambezi he could wait for the right moment, daydreaming the rush of the river, the brightest sun, quite poetically he'd pose, "Do you remember the day you said I'll be the only one? 'Cause I remember the way you held my gaze my lovely one. Do you remember the day you let me be the only one? 'Cause I remember making love to you under the sun." "By a river underneath the mango tree my love, you're the on

Pop Pop, Fizz Fizz! from Om in Tulum, Mexico - January 19 2013
31/01/2013 Duración: 04h12minThanks to FK and DB, a fun group of friends and family enjoyed a destination celebration in Tulum, Mexico. This party was THE party party and thanks to the guest of honor and a few of the party people, I had a blueprint of a lot of 80s, some contemporary Pop, a few 'guilty pleasures,' a whole lotta Madonna and just a little bit of hip hop Bhangra. Anytime I do a birthday party, or wedding, I like to ask for favorite songs so I can have the best idea about what to rock when the party gets rolling. This is what this eclectic and cool dj sounds like when he plays songs that you and everyone knows and it's quite fun! Enjoy! Holiday Madonna Everything She Wants - Wham! High On The Verve at the Soho House Qool Marv's 7th Re-Vision | Election Night (U.S.A.) 2012
24/12/2012 Duración: 02h06minIt's probably a once in four years occasion for Soho House to install televisions on their exquisite 6th floor. This is a recording from election night 2012. Many instrumentals and few vocals were in the atmosphere in the air that evening. I'll never forget that night, however, I have forgotten most of these tracks : ) Enjoy this fluid flow from an American who was born on the 4th of July in Philadelphia. Born to be alive and great to be alive during times that will always be remembered. Cheers to history. Qool__Marv http://www.sohohouseny.com/the-club/sixth-floor

03/10/2012 Duración: 01h19minThis mix can be downloaded in formats other than mp3 here: http://boldaslove.bandcamp.com/track/boldaslove-us-presents-the-getaway Words by BoldAsLove's Rob Fields: Here’s something to start your weekend off right! Shout out to Qool DJ Marv and The Mighty G-man for handling the mix. These two brothas make mighty cool mixes. Philly meets NYC in Harlem and timeless mixtapes featuring enduring music emerges. Marv’s been spinning around the globe for at least a decade, and you can hear G-Man on Saturday nights with Jay Smooth on WBAI’s Underground Railroad, one of the longest-running and most respected hip hop shows on radio. I’m proud to say that Marv and G-Man have done a killer mix of some of hottest summer sounds from the new black imagination. I know I hadn’t said much about this. One day, I was musing on Twitter that I was thinking about a summer mixtape. G-man responded right away. And since I’ve known him and Marv for a minute, it was a no-brainer. We all met, I gave them the music that I was fe
