Ep. 379 - Molly Stark Sanatorium
01/04/2021 Duración: 37minWe have covered many former and abandoned sanatoriums and mental institutions on this podcast. It never ceases to amaze us how many of these buildings still stand. And all of them seem to have stories of haunting activity. The Molly Stark Sanatorium in Ohio is in really poor condition and thus, no one is allowed inside the buildings and a protective fence has been erected, complete with barbed wire at the top. Despite this fact, many people have been inside and claim to have had experiences. The Sanatorium became a hospital later caring for generally ill people, mentally ill people, addictions, the developmentally disabled and the elderly. Join us as we explore the history and haunts of the Molly Stark Sanatorium! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Jannae McCabe and features the Scaly-Foot Snail and This Month in History features Yuri Gagarin as first man in space. Our location was suggested by Anthony Wallace and Jennifer Svoboda. Our sponsor for this episode is Wooga's June's Journey: The Lost Diaries Po

Ep. 377 - Eastland Disaster
18/03/2021 Duración: 38minThe Eastland Disaster was the most deadly shipwreck in Great Lakes history. More passengers would die in this disaster than in the sinking of the Titanic. This was supposed to be a fun excursion to the grounds of a company picnic. The annual employee appreciation event had become a much anticipated break from the six-day work weeks that the lower middle class employees endured. On this fateful day in 1915, hundreds would die including whole families and leave a mark forever on Chicago. Locations that housed the dead until they could be identified are still haunted by the tragic event, both figuratively and literally. Join us as we explore the history and hauntings of the Eastland Disaster! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Scott Booker and features the origins of pink lemonade and This Month in History features Michelangelo. Our topic was suggested by listener Kimmie Page. Ep. 376 - Fox Hollow Farm
11/03/2021 Duración: 44minHerb Baumeister was an entrepreneur who founded the successful Sav-A-Lot thrift stores, but beneath that successful veneer, he was also something quite sinister. He was suspected in the murders of at least sixteen men and more than likely, many more. His nickname became the I-70 Strangler. His home was Fox Hollow Farm and this would become his burial ground for victims. The farm has been rumored to be haunted by the killer and his victims. Join us as we explore the crimes of Herb Baumeister and the hauntings left in their wake at Fox Hollow Farm! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Scott Booker and features Jack the Baboon as Railroad Assistant and This Month in History features the First Siege of Rome. Ep. 375 - Wyoming Frontier Prison
04/03/2021 Duración: 41minWyoming can be a beautiful state, but it can also be harsh, particularly in the winter. The Wyoming Frontier Prison was a brutal place with no heat during the savage winters and if a prisoner could manage to survive that, there were other threats to their life. Hundreds lost their lives via murder, suicide and execution. Enough men suffered and died here that a spiritual residue has built up and there are many ghost stories connected to the prison. Join us as we explore the history and haunts of the Wyoming Frontier Prison! The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Scott Booker and features Potong Gigi and This Month in History features The Boston Massacre. Our location was suggested by Sandtrooper Mick. Ep. 374 - The Legend of the Count of St. Germain
25/02/2021 Duración: 48minOne legendary person in history that has been fascinating to us is the Count of St. Germain. This was a man who not only claimed to be hundreds of years old, seemingly finding the secret to eternal youth via alchemy, but sightings and stories about him throughout the centuries seem to indicate that he may have been telling the truth. Who was this man? Was he even a Count? Could he have been a time traveler? Was he a vampire and that is why he never seemed to age? Join us as we explore the legend of the Count of St. Germain. The Moment in Oddity features The Iceman Curse and This Month in History features Mary, Queen of Scots beheaded. Research assistance from Scott Booker and topic suggested by Abby Richmond. Ep. 373 - Big Bend and the Ghost Lights of Texas
18/02/2021 Duración: 01h06minGhosts Lights are such an interesting phenomenon. They are seen all over the world and no one is really sure what they are or where they come from. There are many theories. Tim Stevens came in first place in our flash fiction contest in 2018 with his story "That Retched Sound." He co-founded Spectrograph Films in 2019 and the production company is currently finishing their first feature film, a sci-fi thriller called The Ghost Lights, based on a real phenomena that occurs in West Texas. Tim wrote and directed the film. He joins us to discuss the film, the Marfa Lights, his own experience with the lights, the ghost town of Terlingua, Texas where they filmed and legends and ghost stories connected to Big Bend, Texas. The Moment in Oddity features the serrated teeth of the Mosasaur and This Month in History features Malcolm X shot and killed. This episode's sponsor is HelloFresh. Ep. 370 - Old Wilmington
28/01/2021 Duración: 50minDuring the Antebellum Era, Wilmington was the largest city in North Carolina. From it's earliest days, the city was a rowdy place with pirates like Anne Bonny, Calico Jack and Blackbeard making their way up the Cape Fear River. Wilmington was an attractive place for commerce as well, due to its location on the water. Its production of naval supplies made it politically powerful and many of its residents rich. The city today is a balance of historical charm and college town. Many locations in the town have ghost stories connected to them. Join us as we share the history and haunts of Old Wilmington. The Moment in Oddity features the Unfinished Obelisk of Aswan, Egypt and This Month in History features March of Dimes started. Ep. 369 - Harper's Ferry
21/01/2021 Duración: 42minHarper's Ferry is located in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia at the junction of the Potomac and Shenandoah Rivers. The town is best known for its place in history as the site of John Brown's armed raid of the U.S. military arsenal there before the Civil War. This would ignite a spark that eventually ended slavery, which is precisely what Brown wanted. This may be the reason his spirit is still seen in Harper's Ferry. There is more than just Brown's spirit here though. This is West Virginia, a state we have always believed hones supernatural energy and its strategic location with the rivers, more than likely feeds this energy even more. Join us as we explore the history and haunts of Harper's Ferry! 14/01/2021 Duración: 01h07minHarry Houdini was an extraordinary showman. He's one of the few people that is still mentioned on a daily basis somewhere in the news. Ep. 367 - Haunted Cemeteries 17
07/01/2021 Duración: 49minEvery cemetery is unique. Each has its own unique character based on location. Sometimes it is the landscape that is different. Other times, it is the local culture or customs. But truthfully, it is the personalities buried within that define the true character. We have featured over seventy haunted cemeteries around the world in the past six years. After compiling a list, we realized that there were several states, thirteen to be exact, that have not been included yet and on this episode we will rectify that by including several of those. On this episode, we have China Grove Cemetery in Arkansas, Friendship Cemetery in Mississippi, Mount Moriah Cemetery in Montana, Little Egypt Cemetery in Indiana and Cheesman Park in Colorado. The Moment in Oddity was suggested by Rick Kennett and features the Springthorpe Memorial and This Month in History features the Knights Templar officially recognized. Ep. 365 - Marshall House Hotel
24/12/2020 Duración: 01h09minThe Marshall House Hotel has stood in the heart of historic downtown Savannah for nearly 170 years. This was not only a place for weary guests to the city, it also served as a hospital before and during the Civil War. A nod to the history of the Civil War can be found on the third floor. We stayed here for one night and based on the haunted reputation of the place, we decided to do a little paranormal investigating. The activity started practically the minute we walked in our room. Ep. 363 - USS North Carolina
10/12/2020 Duración: 01h23minThe USS North Carolina was a battleship commissioned in 1941 that participated in every major naval battle in the Pacific during World War II. During that time, the battleship had several men die on board and was struck by a Japanese torpedo. The battleship earned 15 battle stars for its efforts. The battleship is today a floating museum that hosts both historical tours and ghost tours. Ep. 362 - 1837 Bed and Breakfast and the Old Jail
03/12/2020 Duración: 01h31minThe 1837 Bed and Breakfast in Charleston, South Carolina is the former home of a cotton planter. The style of the home is a great example of the Charleston Single home. Although this was not a plantation, it still had slaves that lived on the third level and there are stories that claim that a mother and father were sold off to another planter, leaving their nine-year-old son without his parents. He may have tried desperately to find them and ultimately lost his life. Ghost stories claim that he is still here at the house, acting like a poltergeist pulling pranks on visitors and perhaps even appearing as footsteps on the bed spread. While in Charleston, we couldn't pass up the chance to visit the Old Charleston Jail. This was Diane's second visit and Kelly's first, and we got to do an investigation there! Join us as we share the history and investigation at the 1837 Bed and Breakfast and the Old Charleston Jail!
