In today’s episode, I am going to look at the lessons we can learn from the financial literature classic, George S. Clayson’s, The Richest Man in Babylon. In 1926, George S. Clason published a series of pamphlets written in parables that was set in the ancient city of Babylon.  The book became known as The Richest Man in Babylon and has become a classic in financial literature. This is one of the books that have had a profound impact on me personally and one of the foundational educational resources for anyone that wants to increase their financial IQ and build wealth. In today’s show we are going to look at why compound interest is so overhyped and if compounding interest is not the key to kingdom, what is? In the financial universe, compound interest has been sold as the Holy Grail by financial professionals. Letting your money compound over time has been the single most well-known piece of conventional wisdom in personal finance. I would agree that compounding has its advantages in the short term but there are financial challenges when you truly look into compounding in the long term. Your money earns more money, compounding over time, interest produces more interest and your money grows in an exponential manner. In today's episode, I discuss and share how I planned for 2017. The planning process included using a framework of health, relationships, business/career, wealth, and giving. I started the planning for 2017 by debriefing and reviewing 2016, what happened?, What were some of the wins and positives? What were some of the failures and negatives? I then make a list of things I am grateful for and also a corrective action list to proactively tackle some of the mistakes. After reflecting and debriefing the planning process start. I use the same framework of health, relationships, business/career, wealth and giving. I set goals in all of these areas and then break it down to manageable chunks. The big goals are broken down into quarterly goals, monthly goals, weekly goals and daily goals.
