The first of two matches from the 2023 AEW Revolution pay-per-view that Meltzer gave at least five stars, we open with Jon Moxley inviting "Hangman" Adam Page into his domain of death matches. It should be pointed out that a large number of the weapons used in this match would fall under the umbrella of eligible as that Good Housekeeping match between Jeff Jarrett and Chyna. The wrestling landscape in 2001 was in a constant state of flux. With no ECW to draw in the more anti-mainstream wrestling fan there was a clear vaccum in need of being filled. All across the US, and even beyond, little scenes were forming. It came down to Roland Alexander's APW to bring together many of the top rated unsigned talents plying their trades in the north-east, California, the deep south, and even the UK, and have a two-night tournament to crown the "King of the Indies". The presence of Nick Bockwinkel led to a change in plans, and the final pitted recent Shawn Michaels Texas Academy standout "American Dragon" Bryan Danielson and the north-east's most popular shoot-fighting influenced diminutive badass since Taz in Lo-Ki (or Loki or Low Ki or later Senshi and Kaval, or to many others who came to know him "that p***k"). It was a rematch of that other talent spotter of the late 90s/early 00s indie scene, the ECWA Super 8 final.This was the event that helped convinced Rob Feinstein and Gabe Sapolsky

It's been nearly two years since Okada and Tanahashi last fought at the 2016 edition of the G1 Climax. It's been more than two years since they last fought for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 10. It's been more than three years since Tanahashi won a battle between the two at Wrestle Kingdom 9. Despite this, it was Okada who laid out the challenge to Tanahashi for them to once again battle for the IWGP Heavyweight title, and the reason that Okada made the challenge was if Okada defended the title successfully once more he would break the record for the most successful defences in a single title reign. The holder of that record? Hiroshi Tanahashi. And it was a cocky Okada who challenged Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 6 which triggered this series of title matches.So was Okada offering a title shot to Tanahashi due to his respect? Whilst Roman Reigns's title match against Kevin Owens at the 2023 Royal Rumble received a mere 3.5* rating, the ensuing actions that saw Sami Zayn finally turn his back on the bullying Reigns, suffer a beating but in the process give Jey Uso a moral conflict saw Meltzer describe the whole exhibition as 5*.This has led Lorcan (@lorcanmullan) and Simon (@simoncross3) to decide it would be a fun bonus episode to the Meltzer 5-Star Project to ask if there can be such a thing as a 5* angle? And if so, what are examples of that. And can a 5* storyline have no 5* angles? Eight months after Okada finally cemented his place at the top of New Japan, he found himself once more across the ring from Tanahashi, but for the second time it was under the 30-minute time limit conditions of a G1 Climax match, meaning his IWGP Heavyweight title wasn't on the line, but there was still much for both men to gain by winning.
