The podcast on hunting, fishing, and trapping in Alaska, with an Alaskan perspective

Episodios

  • Episode 112: Things Going Badly

    31/05/2021 Duración: 01h54min

It's Frank Schultz and me in this episode, where after the previous episode, Frank has some cautionary tales to add involving all of the dental work he's needed to have. We talk about potato guns, cracking muzzleloader stocks, and the troubles of running jet outboards in dirty rivers, as well as my catastrophic flub on a black bear recently. Enjoy, and hopefully learn from our mistakes!

  • Episode 111: Full Throttle into Spring

    26/05/2021 Duración: 02h49min

In this episode we get to hear about some squirrel shooting from my son Jed, then Matt Herkstroeter and I talk about how fast the transition from winter to spring/summer is here, the million things we've been up to, and of course plenty of spring bear hunting talk. Enjoy!

  • Episode 110: Caribou Closure with Larry Bartlett

    21/04/2021 Duración: 52min

In this episode I'm joined by Larry Bartlett to hear some more detailed information on the looming closure of federal lands in units 23 and 26A for non-local caribou hunters. This is a heated issue, but an important one, and the effort to keep non-local hunters out doesn't seem to be supported by evidence. We fully believe in the need for rural residents to have first priority at times when caribou numbers are down, but they aren't. This was pressed for time and Larry has some amazing stories and experiences, but it was important to squeeze this in while we still have time. If you can call in to give feedback at the meeting, it is from 3pm-7pm (or until the end of public input) (AK time zone), please do. Public Hearing Information: Friday, April 23, 2021 from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. (or until the end of public participation)Teleconference: Toll Free: (877) 918-3011Passcode: 8147177

  • Episode 109: Spring Fever 2021

    13/04/2021 Duración: 03h34min

In this episode I'm joined by the crew, Dr. Frank Schultz, Nick Muche, and Temple Dillard. We're all antsy and ready for spring and hit on a number of topics including (state-level) fish and game proposals, and just being wound-up and needing to make some new hunting stories. I plan on following up with more detailed discussion on the current proposal to close caribou and moose hunting for non-locals in unit 23 and 26A, but below are links to the announcement (along with contact and meeting info), as well as to my article on outdoorlife.com discussing the issue (that also contains links to pertinent herd information).
