Lunch Break | A Comedy Show About Food

James Carr of Longleaf Media returns to the show to talk about the hyper local food festival, AgLanta Eats. The event is Monday, July 16 at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Kathleen, AJ and James also talk about black market cucumbers, urban forests and play games centered around famous chefs. 

Kathleen and AJ return after a brief summer hiatus from drinking as much Sunny D as possible. The duo are joined by returning guest Julia Grochowski, who talks about her new podcast "Myth Roast" and the best options for summertime grilling. They also talk about haunted hotels, spiders and the best places to stop in Nashville. 

Have you ever wondered, "what exactly is kombucha?" Or maybe you've never even heard of kombucha! Don't fear, Cultured South and Golda Kombucha founder Melanie Wade joins the show to discuss all things fermented. Melanie goes over how she got started brewing, the health benefits and the recent opening of the first kombucha taproom in Georgia. 

What is the difference between a traditional European coffeehouse experience and that which you find in America? Café Intermezzo founder Brian Olson joins AJ and Kathleen to discuss bringing the foreign concept stateside, opening more locations and backpacking through Europe. Also, Kathleen and Brian test their coffee and pastry knowledge during food fight.

Lunch Break hosts AJ and Kathleen talk with the founders of Four Fat Cows ice cream shop in Alpharetta and Athens, Robyn Rowles and her son Brenden. We talked to them about their large selection of homemade ice cream and baked goods, many of which are gluten and dairy free, and we were able to try some! Find out who knows more random ice cream trivia during the games.

Which is better, Kraft blue box or Velveeta. Or is there a better third option? Kathleen and AJ are joined by returning guests Joe and Julia to debate which is truly king. They also discuss the special Royal Wedding edition Mac & Cheese, leading up to Harry and Megan Markle's nuptials.

Emily Dillard and Hilary Lew, Special Events Coordinators at the City of Alpharetta, join Kathleen and AJ to talk about the Taste of Alpharetta. Emily and Hilary go over the history of the event, vendors to look for this year as well as where to park. They also compete against each other in Food Fight. The Taste of Alpharetta is May 3 from 5 – 10 p.m. in downtown Alpharetta.

Is drinking wine every day really good for your health? Kathleen and AJ are joined by friend Brendan Sheley to distinguish fact from fiction.

Which is truly better, thin crust or deep dish pizza? Bobby G joins Kathleen and AJ on this episode of Lunch Break to discuss pizza and all things Chicago. Kathleen and Bobby test their knowledge of food served at the Chicago ballparks and who knows more about Al Capone.

Cherry Street Brewing's Nick Tanner joins Kathleen and AJ to talk about the craft, (or should we say independent), beer industry. Starting in college in Fort Collins, Co., Nick talks about his experiences brewing and drinking beer. Also, Nick and Kathleen go head-to-head to see who can differentiate between craft beer names and adult film titles.

Kathleen previews her upcoming birthday trip to New Orleans and if she will be able to survive celebrating with a 21 year old. She also tells her favorite spots to eat and drink in NOLA. AJ recounts eating a hotdog on Bourbon Street.

Lunch Break hosts AJ and Kathleen invite Appen Media’s sports reporter and food aficionado Joe Parker back on to discuss a common food myth. This episode focuses on the rumor that the food coloring Yellow No. 5 in Mountain Dew causes a low sperm count in men.

AJ and Kathleen are joined by James Carr, founder of Longleaf Media. James talks to the team on multiple food industry topics including the future of sustainable agriculture, why it’s important to grow some of your own food and how Longleaf Media played a role in Peachfest 2017. At the end, Kathleen takes on James to see who knows the most trivia related to healthy foods (hint: James may have more experience in this area).

The trio puts Jimmy Johns "On the Clock" to see how quickly they can deliver, look over "The Menu" of headlines making the rounds, Kathleen says "Let's Review" sugar free gummy bears and AJ asks "What's Cookin'?" as he tries overnight oats for the first time.
