Some tech-y news today as we head across the pond to hear all about Supersense, a new app that helps blind and partially sighted people read things like letters, currency, barcodes, and more. It could even help you find items in your environment. RNIB Connect Radio's Paulina Kuchorew spoke with Shane Lowe from Supersense, to find out more about the app and to hear about a very special offer for our listeners. Today we're going to find out about Marburg, a German city that’s been hailed as the Smart City for the Blind.  Our Paulina Kuchorew spoke with filmmaker and academic, Dago Schelin, who has written extensively about the reasons for the city's accessibility and friendliness to its visually impaired citizens. Barry Snell chats to Lucy Edwards. Lucy, a blind TikToker makes video's around disability and is keen to highlight the difficulties herself & other blind and partially sighted people have faced when doing home covid tests.  Lucy, who has over 1.7 million TikTok followers has released her own YouTube video documenting how tricky the test can be and also explaining how her Be My Eyes app plays a crucial role in helping with the process. With many of us thinking about dieting and losing weight as one of our New Year’s resolutions, for the first regular check in of 2022 with Pharmacist Elizabeth Roddick from New Life Pharmacy in Glasgow, Connect Radio’s Toby Davey asks Elizabeth whether it is a good idea or not to have dieting and losing weight as one of your New Year’s resolutions. With Covid very much in the news at the moment with the Omicron variant and booster vaccinations too, for this weeks regular check in with Pharmacist Elizabeth Roddick from New Life Pharmacy in Glasgow Connect Radio’s Toby Davey began by asking Elizabeth if there was any update on the new medicine that was brought out at the beginning of December to treat Covid.   Elizabeth also gave some suggestions on home remedies to have in stock just in case over the holiday period and with maybe some of us eating more chocolate than we would normally do over Christmas, Elizabeth answered that burning question whether chocolate is really bad for us? Have you ever wondered what the universe sounds like? Audio Universe: Tour of the Solar System is a sound-based educational astronomy show created by Astronomers from the universities of Newcastle and Portsmouth, and supported by the Science and Technology Facilities Council. Dr Nic Bonne is a blind astronomer and our friendly astronomy guide on the tour and he spoke with RNIB Connect Radio's Paulina Kuchorew about the project. This coming Monday, why not rug up and check out a unique audio described tour and workshop, starting in the streets of Edinburgh? Robert King is a Photographer and Digital Artist who challenges pre-conceived notions of what those living with a visual impairment can achieve. Recently he received an honourable mention for his work at the Mobiography Awards 2021 and is currently working on a series which aims to convey the deterioration of his sight by combining self-portrait photography with medical scans and photographs.  And of course, Robert joined our Paulina Kuchorew to chat photography and how you can create some amazing digital work just by using your smart phone.  Find out more about Robert's work here: Robert H. Covid booster vaccinations have again been in the news with people in the 40s age group now being invited and encouraged to book their booster vaccinations and with recent news of new Covid treatments.
