In this episode of What's Up Omaha I head out to Benson, Nebraska to see what's up with David Losole at Virtuoso Pizzeria. I've never been in the commercial kitchen of a pizzeria and oh my did it smell good. This was a great place to stop out to. David Losole is part of the locally known Losole family of Lo Sole Mio Ristorante. He wanted to branch out from the family business and start his own business because he loves the Benson area and saw a great opportunity when the Pizza Shoppe that formerly owned the space decided to close. The pizza is really good and the slices are huge! All the ingredients are freshly made and carefully measured out to make sure every individual pizza packs the same flavor punch. In this episode of What's Up Omaha I sit down with Alyssa Morrison of Alyssa's Piano Studio. Alyssa is an instructor for youth and teaches Piano, Violin, and Viola. We came into contact with one another through my Facebook group for small businesses. Currently she operates as a new small business, but has found that the non-profit world may be on the horizon. Alyssa has big plans for the future and wants to help people grow through music. In this episode of What's Up Omaha I sit down with Shawn Riddle, Executive Director of Priority Foster Care Nebraska, and Amanda Stevenson, a Foster Parent and friend. The goal of this discussion was to raise awareness about the system of Foster Care. For a lot of us, myself included, we may not have a vast knowledge of what Foster Care is and what it means to those involved. Aside from Amanda I am not aware of any other friends that I have that are Fosters. Without knowing her I would know even less than I do now. I love this interview because it allowed us to get a glimpse into the world not only from the organizational perspective, but also the family perspective. Though we were able to cover a good amount of content I do know that we probably barely even scratched the surface of this topic. In this episode of What's Up Omaha I find myself at the Bellevue, NE Farmer's Market to meet with Awesome Egg Rolls to promote the Nebraska Asian Festival. On July 28th the event was set to start at 9AM and will go until 9PM. THis will be the first inaugural festival in Omaha and have so much going on. In this episode of What's Up Omaha I sit down with Isis Prentice Gertig of B Star Boutique. Isis and I met for one of the vendor events that I coordinate and we kinda hit it off from the start. During our conversations leading up to the event we realized that we attended the same high school for a period of time. In this episode of What's Up Omaha I sit down with my friend, Kenny Cheairs of KNE Films, and we discuss his journey behind the camera. Initially Kenny started out as an artist/entertainer that craved to be in front of the camera, but after loosing his sight in 2005 he had decided that there would have to be a different path for his life. While Kenny still loves to perform he has adjusted his focus on his film and video work. A lot of people may find it odd that someone who is legally blind is a filmographer & videographer, but Kenny is more than comfortable in his new role recently graduating from film school. Kenny's goal in life is to let people know that you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and that people with disabilities should be given the same opportunities that others receive. On this episode of What's Up Omaha I get the chance to sit down with Nick and Laney, owners of Le Smash, in Bellevue, NE. Le Smash is a smash room where customers can rent a room and for 25 minutes can relieve stress and frustrations by smashing different items. At Le Smash customers can bring in items to smash or use items provided by the business. Through partnerships with other local businesses Le Smash is able to acquire wine bottles, beer bottles, and other smashable items. In this episode of What's Up Omaha I interview local photographer and President of Nebraska Spina Bifida Site, Nia Karmann, and we talk about how Spina Bifida played a vital role in her becoming a small business owner. There was one instance in particular that stands out when she was on a job shadow and the professional photographer would not show her the ropes because he didn't believe in her ability to succeed and overcome her situation. Nia took some much needed time to think and pray on making the right decisions for her future and her path. She ended up deciding to follow her heart and became a photographer despite what anyone thought and I think that this is awesome! Nia and I met last October on National Spina Bifida Day at a fundraiser that her organization coordinated at Smitty's Garage (Restaurant). What's Up Omaha - Justin "Pensive" Gilbreath. In this episode I talk with Pensive about his journey with art. Playing and instructing guitar, painting/drawing and now starting a new role as a tattoo artist. I first met Pensive through some mutual friends and the local Hip Hop scene in Omaha. Like many, I was instantly taken back by his amazing talent as a painter. I always say that he has a beautiful mind because his creations are like nothing else that I've ever seen. He holds a special place in my heart as he challenged my daughter to 30 Day Art Challenge where she had to create a new drawing every day. The challenge pushed my daughter as an artist and also gave her a wonderful goal to work towards. Pensive is more than an artist, he is just a great guy and if you sat down to speak with him you would understand why. I really enjoyed being able to interview and speak with him this week. This interview features Moe Williams of Coach Moe Athletics. Moe and I met when I was a co-host on a web radio show called Surviving Life's Tribulations on 1690AM The One. My co-host, Dona Smith, was also a basketball coach and had a friendship with Moe. We were introduced about 4 years ago and have since kept in touch mainly via Social Media. Coach Moe not only is a coach of basketball, but also specializes in speed & agility as well. After our first interview Moe was telling me that he was going through the process of becoming a licensed business and he is now had his LLC for almost 3 years. That is a great feat! Not only was he able to leave a full-time gig, but he is also being fulfilled doing something that he loves to do.
