Alex Villanueva is the 33rd Sheriff of Los Angeles County. He is the first Spanish-speaking sheriff in the county. In 2018, retired sheriff’s lieutenant Villanueva defeated incumbent Sheriff Jim McDonnell, becoming the first to unseat the incumbent in over 100 years. Retired Detective Brent Cartwright served as a police officer for 16 years, spending more than a decade as an undercover detective. He is a recognized expert witness in narcotics trafficking within the United States Criminal Courts system.
