Episode 2 of the Collegiate Live Podcast for the semester features professional basketball player Zach Hankins. In his college career, Hankins garnered several achievements such as winning a Division II title with Ferris State University in 2018 while also being awarded tournament MVP. In that same year he also was named Division II Player of the Year as well as GLIAC player of the year for the second time, then moved on to a Division I one university in Xavier. On this episode Hankins discusses his time in college, his experience with the NBA Summer League, how playing overseas differs from in the states, and more.

On the first episode of the summer 2020 edition of The Collegiate Podcast, Joshua Carlson interviews The University of Michigan Women’s Basketball recruits Elise Stuck and Whitney Sollom. The incoming Wolverines talk about their experiences with being recruited, how COVID-19 affected their high school seasons, injuries, and more. On this episode of the Collegiate Sports Podcast Collegiate editors Paul Ce and Connor Maclachlan cover big free agency signings including Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving and the implications of those signings across the league. The guys liked some underrated free agency signings and didn’t like others. Lillian discusses the new “Toy Story 4” movie and its ability to bring in an audience of all ages. Paul and Connor recap the NBA Draft picks and talk about the NBA free agency. Tessa talks with the group about the lack of campus community at GRCC and how students can begin to create a community for themselves. Paul also talks about how music genres are changing. The podcast closes with the group talking about “The Office,” as it is scheduled to be pulled from Netflix in 2021 due to NBC’s new streaming platform.

The Collegiate Podcast this week features discussion about “Newsies,” a musical being  performed at the Civic Theater, Grand Rapids Pride Festival, the “Avengers: Endgame” planned return and the NBA draft. Lillian tells the group about the “Newsies” performance which featured several Grand Rapids Community College students. Tessa talks about her past weekend reporting on GR Pride along with her interview with “Free Mom Hugs” chapter leader Victoria Larson. Connor explains why he thinks Marvel fans will return to theaters for the re-release of “Avengers: Endgame.” The podcast closes with Connor and Paul predicting team picks for the upcoming NBA draft and pointing out players to keep an eye on.

Editor's Note: This podcast was recorded on June 5, 2019, before JAFAX was held.  The Collegiate Podcast returns with a new group for the 2019 summer semester. For the first episode, the new group introduces themselves, Matthew has an interview with new men's basketball coach Jeff Bauer, Lily tells the group about JAFAX, and Tessa tells the group about her column on Ellen DeGeneres' interview with David Letterman. The group also discusses whether or not Major League Baseball should add protective netting in all stadiums following an incident from the Cubs-Astros game from a couple weeks back where a young girl was struck by a foul ball.

On this episode, Jack details all the latest news regarding the fire at the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. He also gives updates on the Laurie Loughlin arrest as well as the Julian Assange arrest. Plus, Jack also discusses two Kalamazoo area pharmacists who were arrested for filling bogus painkiller prescriptions. They’ll also discuss Russell Wilson’s new deal with the Seattle Seahawks making him the highest paid player in the NFL and talk about the start of the NBA playoffs including two NBA playoff records that were set on Monday night. On this episode, Jack is back to talk about the big news in Washington D.C. where Kirstjen Nielsen, the head of homeland security, submitted her resignation. Jack is also breaking down the news that Felicity Huffman, as well as others indicted on the college admissions scandal, plan to plead guilty, plus Michigan is one of a few states experiencing a measles outbreak. He’ll discuss the specific areas of Michigan impacted and what this means for West Michigan. The gang discusses the planned memorial of slain rapper Nipsey Hussle planned for this week at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It was announced this week that Will Ferrell and Adam McKay plan to end their creative partnership after 13 years in business together. The guys will give their favorite Ferrell/McKay collaborations to honor the end of an era. Samantha Cerio of the Auburn University gymnastics team suffered a brutal injury, breaking both of her legs during her floor routine. Mike, Aaron and Matthew send her their best and discuss the injury.

On this episode, Collegiate staffers Lisa Stapel and Alec Maule join the show to discuss President Donald Trump’s recent visit to Grand Rapids. Lisa breaks down Trump’s speech, what he focused on most and what message he sent to his supporters. Alec talks about his experience outside the Van Andel Arena during the rally, what the mood was like and how protesters were plentiful but remained peaceful. Mike and Aaron deliver their reviews of two recent movie releases, “Us” and “Triple Frontier.” Aaron discusses how Jordan Peele outdid himself with “Us” and the niche he seems to have found in the horror movie genre. Mike talks about Ben Affleck’s new Netflix movie “Triple Frontier” and how he was pleasantly surprised by the film’s depth and plot line. Jack also breaks down the Mueller investigation, the bump stock ban in the United States and gun ban in New Zealand. Dr. Dre made news this week with a controversial tweet about his daughter getting into USC. The gang discusses if this was a bad look for Dre or this was much to do about nothing.
