  • E 54. Gun Dog Vet Specialist, Dr. Spoo

    19/02/2020 Duración: 02h17min

Tonight, Bob and Kevin speak with Dr. Spoo (@gundogdoc), a sporting dog vet specialist. This was probably the longest episode we've done because we just had such a good time laughing and talking gun dogs with Dr. Spoo. If you've ever had a question about your dog's health, we probably covered it here so take some notes-- seriously. Topics were all over the place tonight (in the best kind of way) and here's a few things we covered with Dr. Spoo: the dewclaw debate, useful med kits for the field, dogs and CBD oil, nutrition advice for puppies, pregnant females, supplements at various ages, Freudian slips, hunting stories from Dr. Spoo, what to do when your dog blows out a knee, how to flush an eye, proper rehab for dogs. his new podcast, Fueled, and a lot more. If you found this show helpful, please share it with a friend and be sure to leave us a review. We read each one and sincerely take your feedback into consideration to improve the show for everyone. Cheers to you all.

  • E 53. How to Hunt Grouse with Labs

    12/02/2020 Duración: 01h18min

Tonight, Bob and Kevin were lucky to speak with Fritz Heller, a Michigan man who knows a thing or two about hunting for grouse. Search "grouse commander" and you'll find out what I mean... Fritz has been hunting grouse for years and has a unique method you don't normally hear about; he uses labs, only. He has found that if you can train the dog properly, the grouse flush better by a dog than by a person, so you're able to position yourself better to increase chances of a clean shot. We learned how Fritz trains his labs for grouse hunting, the weather patterns and where to find them during various times of the season and I'd be a liar if I said I didn't take notes. I really had a good time talking with Fritz, he's the man.

  • E 52. Advanced Retriever Work with Lyle Steinman

    29/01/2020 Duración: 01h27min

Tonight we welcomed Lyle Steinman of Castile Creek Kennels to the show. Lyle has been in the hunt test game for a number of years and has more accolades than I can comprehend. We got to hear a little about how Lyle got started working with dogs and how things have evolved over time and then BAM we jump right into some advanced training advice. We had a lot of fantastic questions come through and weren't able to get to everyone so Lyle said he'd be happy to come back on the show and continue chatting... we'll have the ol' cell service thing figured out by then, too.

  • E 51. Oooo Barracuda

    15/01/2020 Duración: 47min

Tonight we welcome Bob back to The States and hear about his fishing trip in Belize. We're also let down by his story about Albert and Bob's inability to bring home a trophy. Next, we hear about some plans for the coming months as Bob moves south to train in warmer weather (will you be nearby? come say hello!). We also dig into some awesome Q&A we had come through our Instagram (@loneduck), so you're going to want to listen to the whole show to learn a few ol' hockey tricks.

  • E 50. Advice For All Things E Collar

    07/01/2020 Duración: 55min

Welcome to the new year. This week's show we hit a few awesome segments but first we recap this year's Christmas Eve grouse hunt with Andi, Covey, Nick & Huey. We then get into a question from Gunner Kennels about winter training and how to keep your dog sharp as the season gets closed. Now, the bulk of this show is dedicated to something important so please listen closely. We talk about e collars. Why do we use them at Lone Duck Kennels, what if your dog is "too soft" for one (they aren't), how do you carefully scale pressure to receive the desired response, why we don't like the vibrate option and a lot more. We receive questions all the time about e collars and how people are nervous to use them so hey, let's talk about it. Let us know what you think of this episode, please. Shoot us a review on iTunes (5 stars would be cool), a DM on Instagram, an email at loneduckpodcast @ gmail . com... whatever works for you. We'd love to chat more about this topic so you can have a happy & healthy dog and feel more co

  • E 49. Writer and Outdoorsman, Tom Keer

    31/12/2019 Duración: 01h12min

Welcome back from the holiday break, everyone. I hope you ate your bodyweight in sugar cookies like me. For tonight's episode, we're fortunate to speak with Tom Keer. Tom's passion for both gritty hunting dogs and swingin' flies over good water has settled him into a life as a writer and business owner... and the latest friend to our show! Tom has the ability to tell a story like no other and we could have talked for hours. Surprisingly, we didn't really cover much of his writing career (this time) because we jumped right into his English Setters, hunting stories, what makes for productive grouse cover and a lot more. If you're interested in finding some of Tom's writing, give his name a quick Google and you'll see that he's in every cool magazine you probably already subscribe to. Tonight's show was a little unique because the three of us were all in different locations (so be patient with the audio). Regardless, kick back with some coffee and enjoy. Cheers.

  • E 48. Lone Duck AMA

    18/12/2019 Duración: 53min

Well, we tried something a little different, folks. Tonight, it's snowy and we settled in for an AMA-style show where we rattled off all sorts of questions for Bob to answer. We flipped on Instagram Live to really put him on the spot and he didn't know what sort of things were lined up-- so we laughed and had a good time. Yes, we go through some dog training advice but we also learn about Bob's preferred dog names, his time wrestling goats, life in Ireland, his list of guns I didn't realize was so long, how Bob fell into owning Andi, boiled peanuts and a lot more. Like I said, it's a different kind of show but I think you'll laugh, feel like you know us more and still walk away with a few mini training tricks up your sleeve. Cheers, friends.

  • E 47. Gun Dog Training Advice

    11/12/2019 Duración: 01h17min

Evenin' folks. Tonight, Bob and Kevin sit down to chat with the Lone Duck community over an Instagram live and answer some awesome questions. We had a bunch come through and we really rattled through some goodies (Bunny's being my favorite). We learn about casting drills, building marking confidence in young dogs, why Zach is a stud and a whole lot more. We enjoyed tonight's show and hope you did too. As always, thank you for your support, cheers!

  • E 46. Dog Training Pioneer, Trish Jagoda

    04/12/2019 Duración: 01h03min

Tonight, Bob and Kevin speak with a friend and an absolute pioneer in our industry, Trish Jagoda. Trish has been training dogs for 40+ years so yeah, she's seen a dog or two. We learn about how Trish got started working with dogs, her time judging, some advice for new gun dog owners and some of the wild ways people used to train dogs (thankfully, it's changed). If you're interested in learning more about Trish and how she trains, check her out on her site: silver-brook.com

  • E 45. Duck Blind Coffee & Gun Shyness

    27/11/2019 Duración: 54min

Tonight, Bob and Kevin had the pleasure of chatting with our new buddy, Dennis from Duck Blind Coffee. We got to hear about his time starting a company and how he meticulously roasts his own beans to better serve the duck hunting community... and others, too. I really enjoyed hearing some hunting stories and we even chatted about gun shy dogs. If you're going to introduce your dog to gunfire or you think you have a gun shy dog, listen to this show. As always, we want to be as transparent as possible and I tried some new audio things in an attempt to improve our show and well, I'm not so sure I was successful. Please be patient and understanding, I'm just trying to be better to support everyone and have a good time doing it. That said, feedback is always appreciated. Happy (almost) Thanksgiving, friends. Cheers to you for supporting us.

  • E. 44 Force Fetch Part 2: The Force Continues

    20/11/2019 Duración: 01h23min

Last night, Bob and Kevin sit down to continue our conversation about the proper way to teach your dog force fetch. If you haven't listened to episode 43 yet, then go back and do that first so this one makes sense. This is generally a sensitive topic because there's a lot of people who don't understand this technique and there's a lot of people doing it wrong. Well, we want to help educate people about force fetch and you can make the decision for yourself. Topics include: ear pinch walking fetch, collar walking fetch, ladder & beginning force to pile and a few questions from our Instagram live session. As always, thank you for your support.

  • E. 43 Retriever Training: How to Teach Force Fetch (1)

    13/11/2019 Duración: 01h55s

Pull up a seat, we're going to talk a little force fetch tonight. We get questions every day about force fetch like when do I start? How long does it take? What if my dog is too old, young, soft, stubborn, small, big, etc. Well, tonight we're starting our two part series on every single inch of force fetch. Let us know what you think in our DMs @loneduck. Thank you to everyone for all the kind words, feedback and reviews. You're awesome and please know you're greatly appreciated. PS. Had a few technical difficulties with mics tonight, not sure why but please be patient. I'm on it.

  • E. 42 Master Stashional Recap

    06/11/2019 Duración: 01h07min

It feels good to be back in action. Apologies for the lull in shows but things were quite busy over the past few weeks, as we'll get into during the show. Bob and Kevin sit down to review the past few weeks filled with Golden Retriever puppies and a trip to Master National with Memphis, Ember and Cruz. Bob describes the set up for each series and shares how each dog performed. We are proud and humbled with the outcome of this competition and are excited to share it with everyone who supported Lone Duck during The Stashional. I think this show got a little more emotional than we expected. It's an incredible experience when long hours of hard work and grit pays off. As a bonus, we learn about Bob's bowels, too. Happy hunting season and hey, cheers to you guys.

  • E. 41 The Grind: How to be a Dog Trainer

    16/10/2019 Duración: 01h30min

Tonight's show is a good one and certainly interesting. Bob is down at Blaine Tarnecki's house training and they're gearing up for Master National. We talk through the dogs that are running, how they're getting set for the competition and some solid Q&A. Now, the Q&A that we had come through this week was honestly tough. One of the most asked questions we receive is how to be a dog trainer or how awesome is it to "just play with dogs all day." Well, tonight we lift the hood and share with everyone what it's really like. It's unique and I hope you can appreciate the honesty and transparency we're trying to share. PS. The audio was a bit funky but I'm working on it.

  • E. 40 Woodcock Opener and Retriever Q&A

    02/10/2019 Duración: 01h07min

Howdy folks. Bob and I sat down last night to talk through his morning walking the fields and dense woods alongside friends and some of our favorite dogs. To my surprise, he actually dropped a couple beautiful birds and he breaks down the whole trip for us, it's a pretty good story. Bob and I also discuss a few housekeeping items, including cool Gunner products and Birdie's pregnancy. If you're interested in a red Golden pup, DM us at @loneduck on Instagram. We also jump into some fantastic Q&A from friends in our community (thanks for writing in and following along!) about all things retriever training and even a little follow up on Huey's Utility Test. We dig into whistle sits, things that can go awry at Junior tests, the best order to run at a test, running blinds and a whole lot more. Crack a cold one, sit down and enjoy-- I know I did.

  • E. 39 Huey's NAVHDA Test, Big News & First Hunt Feedback

    26/09/2019 Duración: 38min

This week Bob and Kevin review the weekend action over a cold, camo buschhhhh. Bob had an exciting and successful Utility Test with Huey, a gritty, blue collar GSP, so we learn a little about his time with that. We also get to hear about Thinkin' Lincoln's first goose hunt. He did well and it was a great training exercise for everyone involved; we talk about how people could apply this to their own dog's first hunt. Finally, we dig into some big news in the Lone Duck world. Cheers.

  • E. 38 The Man, The Myth, Wes Chester.

    18/09/2019 Duración: 01h19min

Tonight's show features our good friend, Wes Chester. Wes is an incredibly knowledgeable dog trainer down in Georgia and we talk a wholeee lot about HRC tests and what it takes to pass a few of 'em. We also trade a few stories about hunting down south and learn that Wes knows his way around some flooded timber. Bob and I really enjoyed tonight's show and laughed the whole time. Hey, cheers to hunting season.

  • E. 37 A Hunt Test Review & Retriever Training Advice

    12/09/2019 Duración: 52min

Wellllllllll it's another fun show of The Gun Dog Chronicles. Bob and Kevin talk through some of the highs and lows from our weekend hunt test with Junior and Senior dogs. Some dogs crushed it and unfortunately, other dogs had off days but hey, that's why training is a continuous, evolving effort. Next we flip on an Instagram live session to answer questions from friends in the training community and dig into a few good discussions.

  • E. 36 Defending the Crown with Clark Kennington

    05/09/2019 Duración: 01h01min

This week we have our first two-timer with Clark Kennington. Bob and Clark get into a lengthy discussion about how he is gearing up for this year's Super Retriever Series (09/25). Listen carefully because there's a lot of awesome tips and tricks about teaching blinds properly, wagon wheel drill, prepping for the SRS and hunting season, Clark's expectations of the test and a whole lot more. This was a really interesting episode and I hope you enjoy. Cheers to you.

  • E. 35 The Super Retriever Series is Coming...

    28/08/2019 Duración: 57min

Tonight, Bob and Kevin chat with Shannon Nardi about the upcoming Super Retriever Series. We learn how things first got started almost 20 years ago and all the changes from then until now. Shannon tells throwback stories from shooting Water Dog and even sheds a little light on her 7 month old pup, Peach. We're really excited for the SRS and grateful that we had the chance to catch up with Shannon-- she's certainly a hard working and inspirational person in our industry.
