    03/07/2024 Duración: 01h21min

This week's episode is extra special because we have our buddy, Luke Moore, from Gunner joining us and we also have Blaine live and in person. We kick off the show learning about Luke and how he got started chasing birds alongside a dog when he was just a boy. Like many people, Luke had the pleasure of growing up in a home where hunting with a dog was a central part of life. Currently, Luke has an older dog, Goose, who he grew up alongside and trained. Luke and Blaine trade a few hunting stories and talk about when their dogs had lightbulb moments and just "got it." Then we jump into Luke's new dog, Dex, and hear about the training and how he is working him through each stage toward being his family's next hunting buddy. It's pretty easy to get hooked on dogs and man, Luke is pretty hooked. Then we chat with Luke about some of Gunner's latest and greatest inventions and how we have tons to look forward to as they continue to innovate our industry. Thanks to Luke for coming on the show, exchanging stories and

    19/06/2024 Duración: 01h06min

We have a special episode today because we get to chat with our buddy, Marshall, from Treasure Island Outfitters. We met Marshall last year when our patreon crew went down to southern Missouri to shoot ducks and train dogs for three awesome days. Aside from seeing a crazy number of birds, telling stories with friends, working dogs and eating until we just couldn't anymore... we had a really good time hanging with Marshall and his guides. So when it was time to commit to another year of hunting with Treasure Island, we asked Marshall to join our show and hang out for a bit. In this show, you'll hear how Marshall and his business partners got into the hunting business, about their lodge, their hunting techniques, his dogs, etc. I promise, it won't take long to understand why we enjoyed hanging out and hunting with these guys. Want to join us for a 3 duck hunts, dog training seminars, all you can eat, drink and more? Hit us up, we have a few spots left for our hunt with these guys in December 2024. Check out

    13/06/2024 Duración: 08min

Alright, so we're trying something new here, so please send us some feedback whether you like it or not. We're going to try doing our usual show in a longer format and sprinkle in (ideally weekly) a short episode that's < 10 minutes long answering questions about drills, problems, pro tips, etc. Think of it as a little chit chat between you and Bob. Saddle up and settle in. Check out our patreon to get 1:1 coaching, talk directly with Bob and join our happy hour hang outs. Need some training gear or want to support the Lone D? • E 205. The First Lite Fellas

    05/06/2024 Duración: 01h37min

Today's show is a real treat because we had the pleasure of hanging out with some of the guys from First Lite, Michael Rietveld and Cody Dinsmoor. These two fellas were a ton of fun to have a beer with and talk dogs. First we dig into how these guys got into the outdoor space and how they got into hunting alongside dogs. We trade a few hunting stories about the most recent hunting season and really dig into their training, how their dogs are learning and progressing and what they're working toward. It's pretty cool to see how people get into a hobby and then take it to the next level. If you think you like hunting with your dog, wait to hear how much these guys get after it. Then we dig into a few stories from a recent bear hunt because why not? Overall, this was an awesome episode and I think you'll enjoy it as much as we did. Cheers! If you are living under a rock and don't already, check out First Lite and keep an eye out for some cool stuff coming.... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm

  • E 204. Hunting hard with Shaundi Campbell

    30/05/2024 Duración: 43min

Today's episode is pretty special and we're happy to share our conversation with Shaundi Campbell from Browning. Shaundi is one of the coolest people you'll ever meet and spends her time chasing all sorts of animals. We kick off the show learning how Shaundi got into the hunting world and her latest expedition to Patagonia where she chased some giant red stags. Then we dig into her time raising and training hounds and how she got her first cat. We often say on the show how the coolest dog trainers are the ones who run hounds because it's such hard, blue collar work and the dogs are tough as nails. Then we move onto other hunting stories, her time in the uplands, Browning, her guns and where she is flying to next to fulfill a lifelong dream. A big thank you to Shaundi for joining our show and trading a few stories. It's always so great to spend time with someone who shares a passion for tough hunts and older guns that have their own stories via bumps and bruises. Be sure to follow Shaundi on social media, she

  • E203. Working K9s are heroes

    22/05/2024 Duración: 01h21min

This is a pretty special episode and you'll very quickly understand why. We are very pleased to speak with Brandon Surratt, a retired police officer who spent 18 years serving his community-- most of that as a K9 Handler. As you could imagine, Brandon learned a thing or two about training dogs and working them in high pressure situations so it was really interesting to hear him share about his dogs (Hyco & Mack), how they train, work, live with his family and (when necessary) get the job done. From wild drug busts to tracking & apprehending some unfriendly people, Brandon has some unbelievable stories that showcases not only his bravery, but his dogs'. Thank you to Brandon, his dogs and all those out there serving the community. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • E 202. How to fix noisy dogs

    01/05/2024 Duración: 01h13min

We get lots of questions each week and one of the top ones is in regards to noisy dogs. My dog is noisy on the line, in the blind, on the dog stand and any other version of this you can imagine. As a result, we hooked up with Randy Bohn (from Rammin' Retrievers) to hear how he fixes this. Randy actually wrote a book called "It's not the dogs fault" and we'd recommend you check it out. We begin the show getting to know Randy and his experience working with dogs and how he got specialized in building good, quiet dogs. We chat through his training progression and his philosophy on increasing obedience to decrease noise. We finish the conversation discussing what it means to rush a dog and hearing Randy's thought on stickiness. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • E 201. Well, let's ask a vet!

    24/04/2024 Duración: 01h44min

Tonight we have the pleasure of chatting with our good friend, Dr. Joe Spoo, or as most people know him, the Gundogdoc. If you haven't heard our previous shows with him, check those out first. Joe is an absolute wealth of knowledge and is also one of the nicest people you'll ever shake hands with. On this show, we catch up with Joe and hear about his hunting season, then hear about his kit for the field. This is pretty important and you'll hear a little story about Bob's latest venture into being a fake vet surgeon (the dog is ok!), but it's good to have tools on hand if you ever needed it. Since Joe is a vet with years and years of experience, he knows his way around a pair of forceps. He teaches us some "basic" doctoring for the field and shares info about his 16 chapter online course to keep your dog safe while afield. We end the show with some Q&A that came in with all sorts of good talking points like bow legged dogs, what is limbertail, when to be concerned about lumps or masses, flea and tick (and what

  • E 200. Celebrating the Lone D

  • E 199. Trading hunting stories with Andy Wayment

    03/04/2024 Duración: 01h12min

Tonight we have the pleasure of chatting with our friend, Andy Wayment. Andy is a passionate hunter who has been chasing grouse for 25 years and sharing the woods with all sorts of dogs. Fortunately for us, Andy is also a great storyteller and has written a few books about his time spent behind his hunting dogs. We begin the show hearing about Andy and how he got into hunting, what makes a good hunting buddy and where he hunts in his books. Andy is extremely thorough and is able to recall specific details of a hunt like no other. Trust me, it's certainly worth checking out his books, whether or not you're a grouse hunter. Andy also does some more informal writing at his blog, which you can find here. Want more Lone Duck? Check out our patreon and come hang out with us. Cheers! Learn more about your ad choices. • E 198. Old stories with Jim Ronquest

    27/03/2024 Duración: 01h50min

It was an absolute pleasure to sit down and talk dogs and hunting with Jim Ronquest. We begin the show learning about Jim, where he grew up and how he got into dogs. Then we chat about the two dogs he currently has and how they're doing with competing and hunting. As you can imagine, they're hunting machines. The next section is my favorite part of the show and Jim dives into story after story of hunting with past dogs in various places. Jim talks a lot about the determination and passion his dogs have for hunting and it's clear that he shares the same level of commitment. Honestly, it's admirable. We finish the show discussing good duck dogs and how they can also be high-level competition dogs, how age and experience play into dogs, making better duck dogs and when to take a young dog hunting. Thank you to Jim for joining the show and trading a few stories with us. Jim does Instagram Lives most Mondays and you should do yourself a favor and follow along. Cheers. • E 197. Training in drive with Pat Nolan

    20/03/2024 Duración: 01h27min

Today's episode is extremely special because we get to chat with our friend, Pat Nolan, about training in drive. It's also special because you can head over to our youtube channel and WATCH this episode to see the videos Pat and Bob discuss during this episode. Aside from catching up with Pat, we chat about collar conditioning and his thoughts on "the goldilocks method." We also spend a lot of time discussing training in drive and how Pat uses this technique to engage dogs and essentially teach them faster and in a more thorough manner. We also discuss conditioned responses with reward markers, teaching directions to younger dogs, using tables to teach, what "force" means to Pat and finally, we discuss miscommunications in training and how to handle these situations. As always, it is a pleasure to hang out with Pat, hear stories about some of his dogs and the types of work they're doing and soak in some knowledge because boy, there's a lot to take notes on. If you're interested in hearing more from Pat, join

  • E 196. Chasing birds with Kali Parmley

    13/03/2024 Duración: 59min

We're excited to have our friend, Kali Parmley, back on the show today. As the editor of Gundog Magazine and host of our favorite tv show, Wild Upland, it's no surprise that Kali is an awesome storyteller and bad-to-the-bone hunter. We catch up with Kali and hear about her first time at SEWE (a Lone Duck favorite) and how her hunting season was this past year. Kali hunts all over the place with her dogs and is truly one of the most dedicated bird dog lovers we know. We also get to hear about how Kali's dog is learning, getting more bird contacts and really becoming a fine dog. As if she couldn't be any cooler, she has both a lab and a setter. Do yourself a favor and watch her show and give her a follow on the ol' Instagram. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • E 195. Grouse hunting with English Setters

    06/03/2024 Duración: 02h04min

Tonight we have the pleasure of welcoming back our buddy, Kyle Warren, from Paint River Setters. We had Kyle on the show a few episodes ago and felt like we didn't get enough of him so he is back and we talk for a while about anything and everything. We begin the show discussing grouse hunting, what's great about it, what trees to look for, types of covers and the difference between lake states and NY hunting. All of that is basically enough educational content for one episode but we keep talking through what birds eat and when, the type of gear Kyle has punished over the years, finding covers, using onX and other maps and then we rapid fire some fun questions at him. Take some notes, there's a lot to digest in this one. Kyle is a fantastic storyteller and the man knows more about grouse, and good grouse dogs, than anyone I've ever met. A big thank you to Kyle for hanging out with us and trading a few stories. If you're looking for some more information about Kyle, his dogs or grouse hunting... check him out
