08/05/2015 Duración: 01h22minUnder the Comic Covers is happy to present our thoughts on Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson's Nailbiter #12 (with a wave and shout out to Adam Guzowski, the colorist for Nailbiter) and Volume 2 of Jason Aaron and Jason Latour's Southern Bastards: Gridiron. In our Top of the Stack segment, Mr. Blahg discovers a surprise book thanks to a suggestion from the staff at Blue Moon Comics in San Rafael, CA (shameless plug). He brings Boom Studio's Arcadia by Alex Paknadel and Eric Scott Pfeiffer to the attention of Grace and our listeners. Plus we answer your letters and have a rather personal news section that has little or nothing to do with actual news in the comic world, but plenty to do with the UtCC world. 24/04/2015 Duración: 01h14minUnder the Comic Covers returns this week with two of our favorite titles (which is kind of misleading, because all of the books we cover are our favorite titles, but go with it): Chew #48 and Manifest Destiny #14. As always, we answer your letters and cover some of the comic news of the week. We don't have a Top of the Stack this week, so the episode is trimmed down to a lean comic reviewing machine. Jon Tsuei and Eric Canete's RunLoveKill, and Matt Hawkins and Rahsan Ekedal's The Tithe. Hope you enjoy. 58: Black Science #13; Nailbiter #11
03/04/2015 Duración: 01h14minThis week, Under the Comic Covers takes a trip down bummer lane with two rather dark and unsettling issues of two fantabulous books; Black Science #13 by Rick Remender and Matteo Scalera, and Nailbiter #11 from Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson. Unfortunately, we don't have a Top of the Stack segment, but we do answer some listener mail and talk a bit about the new podcast network we are now a proud part of... Podcastica! 57: The Walking Dead #139; They're Not Like Us #4; Wayward #6; Chew #47
27/03/2015 Duración: 02h04minLike a spring meadow in bloom, so was the comic shop this week. With vernal abundance, the comic gods smiled kindly on us as Under the Comic Covers reaps the benefit of four issues to cover this week in addition to two we discuss in Top of the Stack. The Walking Dead #139: From the Edge of the World starts us off with the first issue of the new arc, reintroducing a couple of old friends and seeing another integrate into another community of sorts. We then move on to They're Not Like Us #4: Dreams of Children, a deeper look into this less-than-perfect assemblage of hipsters with powers. Wayward #6 is up next, our first regular monthly coverage of this mythology laden look at Japanese culture and a remarkable story within. If you haven't caught up with Wayward, the first volume is out now, and more than worth the cost. Finally, we return to our old pal Chew #47. In a wildly funny, yet somehow, deadly serious issue of Chew, Tony discovers some hidden talents in his new partner, and an old foe rears his head once

It was fantastic to have the opportunity to chat with Charlie again, and we hope you all enjoy the interview. Big thanks to Jason for joining us and for putting the whole thing together, so make sure you also check out The Walking Dead'Cast and catch Under the Comic Covers' Comic Talk segment during the regular season of the TV show. 55: Sweet Tooth, Vol 5: Unnatural Habitats
20/03/2015 Duración: 52minIn a situation most rare, Under the Comic Covers finds itself with not one, not two, nay... not even three titles to choose from this week. Instead, we have none!! In light of this strange week we decided to continue with our coverage of Jeff Lemire's apocalyptic tale filled with sadness, and joy, and sorrow, and love... Sweet Tooth, Vol 5: Unnatural Habitats, from Vertigo Comics. Although this is a limited episode, we do answer one letter... but alas, we feature no Top of the Stack. Look for our interview with Charlie Adlard, artist for The Walking Dead, in a few days, plus our episode next week will be covering Chew #47, They're Not Like Us #4, The Walking Dead #139, and Wayward #6. Now that's a BIG week. 54: The Walking Dead #138: Confrontation
13/03/2015 Duración: 01h13minThis week, Under the Comic Covers is about one comic and one comic only (not counting the three different comics we discuss in Top of the Stack, which really makes this a four comic issue, but not really because we only do a top three on The Walking Dead and only one of the other three are actually part of Top of the Stack because Mr. Blahg decided to throw in another book because... uhhhh... I don't know), The Walking Dead #138: Confrontation. This issue of The Walking Dead gives us ample opportunity to take our time and really go over every detail, to think about actions and consequences, and we spend plenty of time going over the issue. Our Top of the Stack picks are diverse as can be... Mr. Blahg goes with a new Dark Horse comic, Never Boy by Shaun Simon and Tyler Jenkins (and manages to slilp in a pitch for David Lapham's recent Stray Bullets series, Killers and Sunshine and Roses), while Grace tackles the sweet levity of Image Comic's Oddly Normal by Otis Frampton. 53: Saga #26; Black Science #12; Revival #28; Rat Queens #9
06/03/2015 Duración: 02h02minThis week, Under the Comic Covers breaks new ground as we cover four of our favorite books in one single episode! First, we dig into Saga #26, followed closely by Black Science #12 with a remarkablly strong story propelling the narrative further than expected. From the Eververse, we travel to Wausau, WI with Revival #28 and finish our regular coverage within the magical land of Palisade, home to Rat Queens #9. As if that weren't enough, we answer your letters and take some time in our Top of the Stack segment to laud the new Image Comics' book from Jeff Lemire and Dustin Nguyen, Descender. This week, Under the Comic Covers turns one, and to celebrate we discuss Eric Stephenon and Simon Gane's They're Not Like Us #3, and take a bite our of John Layman and Rob Guillory's tasty confection, Chew #46. We also are pleased to share our interview with Jay Faeber, author of Copperhead, Graveyard Shift, Secret Identities, and many other titles. As you can imagine, this is just the tip of the iceberg (that is untrue... the interview and the two books take up the majority of the episode). We also answer your emails, and Grace features Ryan Ferrier and Valentin Ramon's D4ve from IDW in our Top of the Stack Segment. All of this for the low low price of nothing whatsoever. 50: The Walking Dead #137; Sweet Tooth, Vol 4: Endangered Species
12/02/2015 Duración: 01h34minThis week, Under the Comic Covers is happy to discuss two perennial favorites, The Walking Dead #137: A Future Uncertain and Sweet Tooth, Vol 4: Endangered Species. Things get weird in the Hilltop as Carl loses something a bit more precious than his iconic hat, and Gus and Jeppard bond in some very tender moments... so an all around sweet episode, if it weren't for all the weird licking and bear attacks. But other than that... and the murder attempt and infectious disease... these are two very happy and sweet issues from Image Comics. Perfect material to curl up with your loved one on Valentine's Day and prepare to be single the next day. (kidding) Of course, that isn't all there is. We also answer your emails and grab an issue off of the Top of the Stack. This week, Grace chooses Scott McCloud's graphic novel, The Sculptor... and Mr. Blahg goes with Grant Morrison and Chris Burnham's Nameless. 49: Saga #25; Nailbiter #10; Joshua Williamson Interview
06/02/2015 Duración: 01h50minThis week Under the Comic Covers goes over Saga #25, Nailbiter #10 and is very pleased to present an interview with Joshua Williamson, author of Nailbiter, Birthright, and Ghosted. After it's three month hiatus, Saga returns to its constant glory and delivers an emotional kick in the gut... while Nailbiter completes in second arc with an issue so full of action you may very well think this could be the entire arc all at once. And as a very special treat, Joshua Williamson takes some time to discuss his history in comics, what's coming up in Nailbiter, and fills us in on all the details of Birthright that Mr. Blahg is too dense to figure out on his own. In addition to all of that goodness, we answer your emails and go over some of the news of the week. 48: Revival #27; They're Not Like Us #2; Sex Criminals #10
30/01/2015 Duración: 01h41minThis week Under the Comic Covers gleefully returns to covering two old favorites and one new addition to the regular roster. We begin our meal with Revival #27... dark and brooding as all fine rural noirs should be. Next up we delight at the chef's new recipe, Eric Stephenson and Simon Gane's dish of dissatisfaction and violence, They're Not Like Us #2... and titilate your taste buds with a lovely dessert of Sex Criminals #10: Alone Together. Of course, no fine dining experience would be complete without something with which to wash the delectables down... and for that we answer your letters and indulge in our weekly Top of the Stack. This week, we serve Powers by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming and Star Trek Planet of the Apes by Tipton, Tipton, and Scott. Bon appetit! 47: Southern Bastards Vol. 1: Here Was a Man; The Wicked + The Divine Vol. 1: The Faust Act
23/01/2015 Duración: 01h28minThis week Under the Comic Covers introduces two new titles... and although we don't bring you current with either, we go over the first volumes of both Jason Aaron and Jason Latour's Southern Bastards: Here Was a Man and Keiron Gillen and Jaime McKelvie's The Wicked + The Divine: The Faust Act. If you have not read either of these titles, run... don't walk... but seriously, run to whatever outlet you choose, but read these books. You will not be disappointed. We don't have any listener mail to respond to this week... we are assuming you were shocked to hear we were covering two different books and simply didn't have the opportunity to catch up on two volumes with such short notice, but we respond to a couple of Facebook responses for The Wicked + The Divine and talk about a new Image Comics #1 in Top of the Stack. This week we discuss Reyn, the new fantasy adventure comic by Kel Symons and Nate Stockman... if you like monster killing action and farmers' daughters with large breasts, then you won't want to mis

46: The Walking Dead #136: Found; Copperhead #5; Rat Queens Braga Special #1
16/01/2015 Duración: 01h42minThis week Under the Comic Covers returns to its normally scheduled programming and brings you not one... not two... but three great titles to choose from (or don't make a choice at all and listen to the whole enchilada). First we discuss The Walking Dead #136: Found, where zombies take a back seat to politics and teenagers having a chat... followed by Copperhead #5 with what may be one of the most satisfying ends to an arc... and we wrap things up with a chat about Rat Queens Braga Special #1, where we simply talk about what a joy this book really is. Of course that doesn't mean we've ignored our listener mail... that's still there, and our Top of the Stack spotlights BOOM Studio's Memetic by James Tynion IV & Eryk Donovan and Abstract Studio's SIP Kids by Terry Moore. All that plus so much more for the low low price of absolutely nothing at all! Hope you all enjoy. 45: Nailbiter #9; Image Expo 2015
10/01/2015 Duración: 59minUnder the Comic Covers takes a field trip this week as we both attended Image Expo 2015 in the heart of San Francisco and report back to you fresh off the heels of Mr. Blahg kissing the forehead of Chip Zdarsky! We discuss many of the new announcements, our take away from the Expo, and follow all of that excitment with a great discussion of Joshua Williamson and Mike Henderson's Nailbiter #9. Due to the "on the road" nature of this episode we keep things trim with no letters and no Top of the Stack, but things will get back to normal next week.
