Got money? Or does money have you? Gotta have it. Yet, yet money can easily have us. Just as there are two sides to every coin, there are two opposing perspectives to dealing with money. Family dysfunction can be any condition that interferes with healthy family functioning. Most families have some periods of time where functioning is impaired by stressful circumstances, such as a death in the family or a parent’s serious illness. What we might call broken God calls beautiful. To God, the family is beautiful! He created families, starting with His son, Jesus Christ. And, God’s only son bore the burden of our mistakes, shame, and brokenness to bring us back into His family.

Shame is a perversion of our desperate need for God. Shame says, “I am bad.” I’m unworthy. I must hide. Something about myself will make people reject me. It affects us physically, spiritually, and relationally. Fortunately, Jesus took our shame so we wouldn’t have to live in it. His power can overcome shame in our lives!

I object! How often have you thought those very words? Not me ... I'm not qualified. It can't ... There's no way this will work. They Won't ... People are not even going to listen. Guest speaker and missionary to Africa since 1994, Scott Hanson, delivers a powerful message challenging these common objections. Depression. It affects 322 million people. One of them might be you or someone close to you. It's a real struggle that can't be "swept under the rug" with happy thoughts. Fortunately, there's no need to hide it, no need to run from it, no need to be embarrassed, to retreat from community, nor to think any less of yourself. Depression is a disease that God understands and wants to help you with. Not necessarily by escaping from it with a snap of His fingers, but by your dependency on Him drawing you closer to His love, His hope, His healing. God wants to meet you in the wilderness of depression, direct you in it, and lead you out of it. Just as He has for so many and just has He did for Elijah, a regular person on a journey described in the Bible so many years ago.
