Information On Cruising The Great Loop

This Friday our Guest Host will be Capt. Patrick Hopkins. Capt. Hopkins was on the first leg of the journey of The Greatest Loop by Beneteau, from Annapolis to New York City. He is also in charge of technical assistance to her different crews until she completes the Great Loop.

This is a replay of a show from last spring, featuring Joe & Mary Beth Amelia. The show focuses on sailing the Loop, as opposed to cruising the Loop. The special considerations for those people who want to do the Loop in a sailboat are discussed, things like stepping the mast and special skills needed. . It’s that time of year when our annual Loopers are approaching or in the Canadian Waterways, so we thought it would be advantageous to learn more about the beautiful Georgian Bay. Our Guest Host is Donna Stewart, manager of the Dismal Swamp Canal. Connecting the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia via the Elizabeth River and the Albemarle Sound in North Carolina via the Pasquotank River, this is the oldest continually operating man-made canal in the United States. Its inclusion into the National Register of Historic Places and its designation as a National Civil Engineering Landmark are honors worthy of its colorful past. Donna will tell us about cruising the Canal and why it should be part of every Great Loop cruise!

Our guest host this week is jim Stewart from Winter Harbor Marina in Brewerton, NY. He will walk us through the steps to make our boat ready for spring cruising.

John Wooldridge, PassageMaker Magazine's Editor in Chief, will talk about Trawler Fest Anacortes, May 15-19. The event features a boat show and seminars. Capts. Chris and Alyse Caldwell will also join us in the broadcast to talk about the seminars they're teaching at Trawler Fest, including the latest in navigation.
