Information On Cruising The Great Loop

This week our Guests Hosts are Ron and Eva Stob. They will discuss the early days of the organization and their own Great Loop cruise.

Our Guest Host is Donna Stewart, manager of the Dismal Swamp Canal. Connecting the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia via the Elizabeth River and the Albemarle Sound in North Carolina via the Pasquotank River, this is the oldest continually operating man-made canal in the United States. Its inclusion into the National Register of Historic Places and its designation as a National Civil Engineering Landmark are honors worthy of its colorful past. Donna will tell us about cruising the Canal and why it should be part of every Great Loop cruise!

Our guest host this week is jim Stewart from Winter Harbor Marina in Brewerton, NY. He will walk us through the steps to make our boat ready for spring cruising.

John Wooldridge, PassageMaker Magazine's Editor in Chief, will talk about Trawler Fest Anacortes, May 15-19. The event features a boat show and seminars. Capts. Chris and Alyse Caldwell will also join us in the broadcast to talk about the seminars they're teaching at Trawler Fest, including the latest in navigation.

This week our guest host will be Dr. Jerry Reves, former Dean of MUSC and native Charlestonian. Dr. Reves will be telling us all about where to go and what to see in Charleston, SC.

Our guest hosts this week will be Mike Ahart, news editor of Waterway Guide and a rep from the Great Lakes Commission, Matt Doss.  We'll be discussing the proposal to close the Illinois River off from the Great Lakes to control the Asian Carp.

This Friday our Guest Co-Host will be Pat Hospodar,who is hosting the Sunset Celebration in Marathon. She will be telling us about the history of the celebration, what to expect, who's coming and also tell us about things to do while in Marathon. Pat will be joined by her husband and some of our other Loopers in Marathon.

Our show this week is coming to us from the Miami Boat Show.  Our guest host is Mike Ahart, News Editor of Waterway Guide, one of AGLCA’s Admiral Sponsors.  Mike will convey the excitement of the show and tell us some interesting facts about this huge gathering of boating enthusiasts.

This week our Guest Host will be Steve Eames, South Coast Office Director of the Coastal Conservation League. We will be discussing the proposed dredging of the Savannah River and Charleston Harbor, preserving our coastlines and maintaining the quality of our waterways.

Mark Tague with Richardsons' Maptech explains the differences between charts and maps, along with the essential publications to have when planning your cruise on the Great Loop.
