  • The Year of Jubilee Calls for Change

    08/01/2017 Duración: 33min

Say HiTHAT YOU MAY KNOWMany of us may be knowing for the first time that Ikoyi Baptist Church was started under the leadership of our beloved father, Rev. J. A. Sholeye, who was sent by First Baptist Church, Broad Street, Lagos to begin an English speaking Baptist Church in Ikoyi. The first service was held on May 28, 1967 at Aunty Ayo Primary School, Ikoyi. This year, we shall celebrate 50 years of our existence and thus we have our theme for this year “Our Year of Jubilee”Jubilee connotes many good things. The Lord instructed the Jews to celebrate Jubilee every 50 years. 49 years they shall work and then on the 50th year, they shall sound the trumpet to mark the beginning of Jubilee for the whole year. During the year of Jubilee, all slaves and prisoners must be set free. All lands taken from their owners as surety for loans must be returned to their original owners. Families would be reunited. Lands will be left fallow-nothing must be planted and nothing must be harvested from it that year. The people a

  • Serve God Reasonably in 2017

    01/01/2017 Duración: 24min

Say HiWe are breaking out a new calendar and it is also a time of new beginning for services onto our King of kings and Lord of lords as we ask for grace for a renewal of strength and purpose from our God through the power of the Holy Spirit. I am not asking or suggesting for members to make resolutions to serve the Lord because resolutions can be a wishful thinking that may soon be forgotten. What I plead for is a renewal of our minds to allow the Holy Spirit to transform us to the level of being a vessel unto honour to our God and King.Let our fresh start be a commitment to attend worship services regularly. Do not be malnourished spiritually this year when God has prepared a table of feasting before you in your church. Rise up and count for God in your attendance of Mid-week service, Sunday service with Sunday school and services of prayer and fasting. Also have a fresh start in Evangelism Outreach of the Church and personal outreach in your area of work and residence. We must herald the good news of Jesu

  • I Want to Be A Christian

    25/12/2016 Duración: 51min

Say HiWHAT EVERY CHRISTIAN MUST POSSESSThere is a misconception about who a Christian is in our world today. Some believe that they were born a Christian because their parents are Christians. Some claim that they are Christians because they have been baptized and are partaking in the Lord’s Supper in any church they go for worship. Some even think that the moment they stepped foot in a church building, they automatically become Christians. The label “Christian” was first used in Antioch when the unbelievers saw the followers of Christ living a different life-style that was worth emulation. The meaning of “Christian” is “little Christ” or “one who lives a noble, good and Christ-like life.” It will be rightly used to describe a believer in Christ who is truly living a life patterned after Jesus Christ our Saviour and Lord. There are 3 essential virtues that Christ has called us to possess if we are truly determined to be like Him. These are:1.A life of sacrifice: Luke 9:232.A life of humility: Matthew 11:28-303.A

  • Who is Jesus to You?

    18/12/2016 Duración: 23min

Say HiWHEN JESUS CAMEOver 2000 years ago, the Saviour of the world was born. At His birth, the world was asleep only some shepherds, according to the Bible, were awake keeping their flock by night. While heaven came down to celebrate the birth of the King of heaven and earth, the people He came to save were snoring.Jesus Christ was born of a virgin of no popularity. He was from little town of no significance; Nazareth. He was given birth to in a dirty and smelly place; a manger. Trained by a Carpenter who did not care to send Him to school (which He did not need anyway). Became a grown man who had no where to lay His head. Went about doing good and yet was hated for it. Died the death of a criminal on the rugged cross. Buried in a borrowed tomb (He only had need of it for few hours). No wonder the Bible says He did it all for me. He became poor that I might be rich. He emptied Himself of all but love that I might gain everything with Him in glory. What a Saviour! What a Lord! My Jesus I love You!

  • JESUS CARES AND CURES

    11/12/2016 Duración: 27min

Say HiGOD CARES ABOUT YOUGod is our maker. He knows our beginning and our end too. He knows when a baby is formed in the womb of his mother. He has a purpose for each one of us before our birth. If we walk with Him, His purpose for our lives will be easily fulfilled. More so, God knows what we are going through. He is aware of our struggles even the ones not known to us. Jeremiah 29:11 tells us that God’s thoughts and plans for us are of peace and not of evil, to give us a future and a hope. God does not do evil because He is a good God all the time. Another important matter to bear in mind is that God does not only know our struggles, He wants to do something about it if we will only let Him. I Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your cares upon Him because He cares for you.” Remember, everything that we have is given by God. The Bible says that “if God did not spare His only begotten Son but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things” (Rom. 8:32). Look unto Jesus, the

  • Maximizing Life Opportunities for Fulfilling Our Calling

    04/12/2016 Duración: 55min

Say HiOUR MANDATEThe church is God’s relief to a sick and hurting world both physically and spiritually. All through the Bible, we see that God is deeply concerned with the poor, widows and the orphans. He is the God who always rescues the needy. Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ came to the world and was highly compassionate with the sick and needy. Jesus was mindful to meet the greatest need of mankind which is the spiritual depravity of man.As Jesus did while in this world so He sent His church to do. The preaching of the Word is very important but the task of helping the poor and needy must not be neglected. Obviously the church cannot adequately do this task alone. We must, however, be found doing the will of God no matter how little we are capable. We must live out “pure religion”. We must be involved in this task because God commanded it, Jesus exemplified it and we need to be connected to it. The world is watching to see who truly loves others enough to take action. God is counting on His church and w

  • The Message of the Lord's Supper

    27/11/2016 Duración: 29min

Say HiKEY THINGS TO NOTE IN TAKING THE LORD’S SUPPERBefore a person takes the Lord’s Supper, he/she should be baptized as a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lord made plain the order of these two ordinances in the Great Commission. 1)We are to make disciples2)Baptize them 3)Teach them to observe all that He has commanded us to do (Matthew 28:19-20).The first ordinance, which is baptism, is a one-time event while the second ordinance, which is the Lord’s Supper, is a repeated event throughout our Christian walk. This order was followed by the early church as those who believed in the preaching of the apostles were baptized and then continued steadfastly in the breaking of the bread (Acts 2:41-42).How often should we take the Lord’s Supper? There is no limit set by Jesus Christ. In 1 Cor. 11:26. Paul expressed that “as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” The number of times should be determined by the local assembly and it must be done with all s

Say HiThe merciful God we serve has His ways higher than our ways and His thoughts than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). God can use the most “unlikely people” as far as man’s judgment is concerned. It will be amazing for you to know that despite your being rejected by the people around you, God can still single you out for His purpose. Many of us pastors have stories of woes and rebellions to tell before God called us into His vineyard. A case in hand is that of Evangelist Franklin Graham who did everything possible to run away from God. His rebellion began in childhood and his parents, the great evangelist and wife, Billy Graham and Ruth, never sat Franklin down to lecture him about sin. Franklin smoked cigarettes, went on high-speed chase with the police that almost sent him to jail, got drunk of liquor, in short, Franklin did almost anything to have his own identity from being a Graham. At 22, Franklin was sick and tired of making a mess out of his life. It was in a hotel room in Jerusalem that Franklin under
