1 Thessalonians 4:13-18 13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformedabout those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope.14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. 15 According to the Lord’s word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever.18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

Psalm 49:1-11 1 Hear this, all you peoples;     listen, all who live in this world, 2 both low and high,     rich and poor alike: 3 My mouth will speak words of wisdom;     the meditation of my heart will give you understanding. 4 I will turn my ear to a proverb;     with the harp I will expound my riddle: 5 Why should I fear when evil days come,     when wicked deceivers surround me— 6 those who trust in their wealth     and boast of their great riches? 7 No one can redeem the life of another     or give to God a ransom for them— 8 the ransom for a life is costly,     no payment is ever enough— 9 so that they should live on forever     and not see decay. 10 For all can see that the wise die,     that the foolish and the senseless also perish,     leaving their wealth to others. 11 Their tombs will remain their houses forever,     their dwellings for endless generations,     though they had named lands after themselves.  

Psalm 17:1-5 1 Hear me, Lord, my plea is just;     listen to my cry. Hear my prayer—     it does not rise from deceitful lips. 2 Let my vindication come from you;     may your eyes see what is right. 3 Though you probe my heart,     though you examine me at night and test me, you will find that I have planned no evil;     my mouth has not transgressed. 4 Though people tried to bribe me,     I have kept myself from the ways of the violent     through what your lips have commanded. 5 My steps have held to your paths;     my feet have not stumbled.

Psalm 33:1-5 1 Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous; it is fitting for the upright to praise him. 2 Praise the Lord with the harp; make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre. 3 Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy. 4 For the word of the Lord is right and true; he is faithful in all he does. 5 The Lord loves righteousness and justice; the earth is full of his unfailing love.

Psalm 75:1-5 1 We praise you, God,     we praise you, for your Name is near;     people tell of your wonderful deeds. 2 You say, “I choose the appointed time;     it is I who judge with equity. 3 When the earth and all its people quake,     it is I who hold its pillars firm. 4 To the arrogant I say, ‘Boast no more,’     and to the wicked, ‘Do not lift up your horns. 5 Do not lift your horns against heaven;     do not speak so defiantly.’”

 Psalm 73:21-28 21 When my heart was grieved     and my spirit embittered, 22 I was senseless and ignorant;     I was a brute beast before you. 23 Yet I am always with you;     you hold me by my right hand. 24 You guide me with your counsel,     and afterward you will take me into glory. 25 Whom have I in heaven but you?     And earth has nothing I desire besides you. 26 My flesh and my heart may fail,     but God is the strength of my heart     and my portion forever. 27 Those who are far from you will perish;     you destroy all who are unfaithful to you. 28 But as for me, it is good to be near God.     I have made the Sovereign Lord my refuge;     I will tell of all your deeds.

PSALM 44:1-3 1 We have heard it with our ears, O God;     our ancestors have told us what you did in their days,     in days long ago. 2 With your hand you drove out the nations     and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples     and made our ancestors flourish. 3 It was not by their sword that they won the land,     nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm,     and the light of your face, for you loved them.

PSALM 11:1-7 1 In the LORD I take refuge. How then can you say to me: “Flee like a bird to your mountain.  2 For look, the wicked bend their bows; they set their arrows against the strings to shoot from the shadows at the upright in heart.  3 When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?”  4 The LORD is in his holy temple; the LORD is on his heavenly throne. He observes everyone on earth; his eyes examine them.  5 The LORD examines the righteous, but the wicked, those who love violence, he hates with a passion.  6 On the wicked he will rain fiery coals and burning sulfur; a scorching wind will be their lot.  7 For the LORD is righteous, he loves justice; the upright will see his face.
