The season is over, the Sharks had few expectations and the team pretty much played every bit the part in tonight’s game. The team had mentally checked out after period 1, and really just a pathetic effort on the Power Play. After being down 2-0 and having played the second of back to backs it was pretty clear the team rather be playing on the fairway rather then the ice. Kahkonen would post a .933 SV PCT% (28 Saves on 30 shots) and give the team a chance, but with any goal support the good play was for naught. Noah Gregor continues his hot scoring ways, potting goals 7 and 8 twenty six seconds apart with his family in attendance. Sharks throw a lot of rubber to the net in the 1st period (17 shots), but still manage to give up the first goal of the evening to Trevor Zegras. The outlook of the game only got darker in the 2nd, when the Ducks would score two more unanswered goals for a 3-0 lead. Sharks finally get their first goal 15:32 in the 2nd period on a Brent Burns PPG. Reedy would then follow up 2 shifts later with a goal cutting the lead to just 1 going into the third. Noah Gregor is going streaking, scoring his 6th goal of the season 3:05 seconds into the first on a great setup from Balcers and Burns. That lone goal would represent the entire offensive output of the night as the Blues would go on to tie 5:18 in the first Dakota Joshua scoring. The Blues would then open the scoring in the second period 31 seconds in, Thomas beating Reimer glove side low. Buchnevich would seal the game with the empty netter, Reimer would end the night making 25 saves on 27 shots good for .926% Save PCT. The Sharks would open the back-to-back games against the Stars and Wild with a solid effort in the 1st (shots 9-8 SJS). Tyler Seguin (23) would score 5:55 in 1st on a defensive miscue on a defensive zone face off loss. In the 2nd, the Stars would score a short handed goal with Brent Burns being victimized by Michael Raffle (7) on a 2 on 1. The San Jose Sharks are officially eliminated from the playoff race in a 5-4 shootout loss to Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. Sharks get dragged into a street fight with the Nashville Predators, Jeff Viel and Nick Meloche both drop the mitts. The teams would play a tough checking game with a lot of defensive structure, through the first 2 periods bending but not breaking. The Preds would press in the third period with 14 shots trying to win the game in regulation but Sharks would hang on but fall in overtime on a Ryan Johansen crash the goal. San Jose lost to the Vancouver Canucks 4-2, giving the Sharks their 6th straight loss. Tomas Hertl got a power play goal, while Nick Bonino scored in his 750th NHL game. The Sharks would start the game’s scoring with a Nick Bonino goal, a tip from a EK65 shot and a great breakout from Noah Gregor. The good mojo would not last long as Vlad Namestnikov would score 25 seconds later. The quick turn of events would be a signal of things to come, the Stars would score the next 3 goals to close the first period all but ending the game in the 1st. Kappie would be chased from the game giving way to a James Reimer relief appearance with him posting .933 pct. Sharks fall on back to back nights, however they show a lot of fight and some hope emerges between pipes. Kaapo had another stellar night with a %91.3 save percentage with the Hertl line adding to their point totals. Timo now has a career high 31 goals with Hertl passing 30 assists for the 2nd time in his career. Unfortunately the Sharks would be outclassed with Colorado’s talent taking over in the 3rd period with Rantanen and Burajovsky driving the stake in the game.
