Function Brewing is officially open in Bloomington as of today. Starting at 3pm they’ll be serving up 9 beers and 12 sandwiches, salads, soups and desserts. I had the opportunity to get a sneak peak on Sunday, and talk with owner/brewer Steve Llewellyn. The microphones were on and I’ll be releasing another special episode with him in a couple days. We'll be at Black Market on Monday to record a special episode with the guys from Daredevil Brewing Co. We'll be discussing their first year in business and tasting beer, of course.  Tickets are still on sale for the Brewers of Indiana Guild Winterfest. Get them now! Tow Yard Brewing says they should be open for business the second week of February.  Thursday, January 16th is a big day for events. Upland, Triton, Bloomington Brewing, Mass Ave Pub, Twenty Tap and Girls' Pint Out all have events on Thursday.  Plus, lots of other events coming up from New Albanian Brewing Company, Outliers, Tin Man, Daredevil, Indiana City, Fountain Square, Chapman's Brewing and Upland Brewing Company. 

The Hoosier Beer Geeks have a couple new blog posts outlining some of the beer related bills that may be coming up in the 2014 Indiana legislative session.  Indiana City Brewing has announced that they’ll begin working with Cavalier Distributing, allowing the brewery to focus more on brewing operations. Events from Bloomington Brewing Co., Tin Man, Sun King Brewing, info on the South Bend Brewfest, Girls' Pint Out, Upland Brewing Company, Triton Brewing Co., and Daredevil Brewing Co.

Lot's of new beer tapped this week, plus a long list of New Year's Eve hours and special events at Indiana breweries. Events coming up include a Firkin tapping at Sinking Ship, Tomlinson Tap Room Quad Tower Takeover, Flat 12's anniversary party, a Goose Island tap takeover at Fat Dan's Deli, and the Daredevil anniversary tour.

We sat down this past week and tasted some of the local options for Holiday seasonal beers! Don't be fooled, these aren't your typical Christmas ales, but instead some solid offerings from Bloomington Brewing Co., Daredevil Brewing, Powerhouse Brewing, Flat 12, Sun King Brewing and Upland Brewing Co.

Last night, I had the chance to sit down with several friends and taste of bunch of Holiday seasonal beer from Daredevil Brewing, Bloomington Brewing, Powerhouse, Flat 12, Sun King and Upland. And don't worry, we had the microphones on the entire time. We spent almost 2 1/2 hours talking and tasting, and as soon as I can get that edited down to a reasonable length, it'll be posted on our site, as well as Facebook and Twitter. Burn ‘Em Brewing out of Michigan City has passed their inspections and received the go ahead to brew. 18th Street Brewery is now open in Gary. On Wednesday, November 6th we went On Location at Mass Ave Pub to celebrate the Indiana launch of Oskar Blues Brewery. I was joined by several co-hosts and we talked about and tasted the entire lineup of beer including Mama's Little Yella Pils, Dale's Pale, Old Chub, Deviant Dale's, G'Knight and Ten Fidy.  It was an awesome night, and even though things got a little noisy later in the evening the conversations were great!  A surprise visit by Oskar Blues' Michigan Sales Rep, Zach Typinski, was an added bonus.  I strongly suggest you grab a can of each beer and taste along with us! Big news out of Colorado this week, Oskar Blues will begin distributing their beer in Indiana.  They'll have all their standard releases at several events around central and southern Indiana starting on November 6. Deshihl Brewing from Bloomington, IL will also begin distributing in mid-November. Daredevil is celebrating their Lift Off IPA can release with a photo contest, post your favorite photo on Facebook or Twitter with the hashtag #handsonourcans. Outliers Outliers Brewing Company keeps teasing us with cryptic tweets, but won't give out any details.  Starting on Friday, the company tweeted "See Ya Monday" and "#Beer Here", but then on Monday followed that up with a one word tweet, "SOON", and later on with "We're getting ready".  Tuesday's tweet said, "It will be worth the wait, @Exceptionalindianabeer is coming to downtown Indianapolis.  See ya soon".  So, we're not sure when they'll be opening, They may not even be sure yet.  But what you CAN be sure of is that we'll let you know when that happens!  Brew BracketThe crew in charge of Brew Bracket has announced that their porters event, originally scheduled for December 8th, is postponed until some time in 2014.  It sounds like they're having some issues with their venue and now they're planning a special festival in the spring.  As always, I'll keep you posted as the details develop.Scarlet Lane progressScarlet Lane Brewing Company has released some updates on their progress.  Among some personal news

Sun King, RAM - Indianapolis and 3 Floyds all took home medals at the Great American Beer Festival this weekend.  Congrats to all those Indiana brewers! Inside Indiana Business featured all Indiana breweries this week on their show.  Check out these video snippets from the show.  I got to talk to Steve Llewellyn, owner of Function Brewing, this week.  He says that batch #7 is in the fermenter and they're shooting for a mid-November opening.  I'm also planning another special episode with Steve in a couple weeks, once they're a little closer to opening. Union Brewing has teamed up with Cutters Brewing, for a beer  called Rye on the Scarecrow. This one should be available in about 4 weeks.   The Federal shutdown affects yet another local brewery.  Indiana Economic Digest has a report with People's brewing owner, Chris Johnson, on why you won't get to drink their pumpkin ale from the bottle this year.
