Garrett and Dan welcome director of the upcoming movie Humungus: A Documentary, Faye Murman and the star and subject of her film, Jim "TANK" Dorsey, to discuss The Road Warrior as well as their upcoming film. TANK is a world-renowned cosplayer, most famous for his portrayal of Lord Humungus from the Mad Max series, but also a fascinating journeyman who was the tour manager for the Misfits, a professional wrestler, and now travels around the world to Mad Max conventions bringing with him over 20 screen-accurate costumes and props. Faye is a former journalist that upon a chance meeting with TANK, immersed herself in his world of fandom and theatrics and spent the last year traveling the world with him to capture his story. George Romero's passing lead the boys to wanting to discuss not only his legacy, but the legacy of the many great filmmakers that have since passed on into their live's post-credits sequence. The boys ultimately decided to watch Sidney Lumet's final feature, Before The Devil Knows You're Dead, another excellent 2007 film, which they've been celebrating lately as well. Written by Shane Black only 5 years after he created the modern buddy cop film with Lethal Weapon, it's no wonder people weren't ready to see him make fun of himself and his style. But today this movie holds up as a genuinely funny action comedy with plenty of fun, big moments thanks to director John McTiernan, of Die Hard fame. Garrett and Dan took a listener recommendation this week and decided to celebrate the release of Wonder Woman with another female-led action film in the form of Joe Wright's Hanna. Neither of the boys had seen this before and were more than rewarded for trusting the audience - Hanna is stellar and more than earns its place among the great action movies of the last 30 years while never forgetting that it's about a young woman in a violent world. Garrett and Dan welcome back Dan Santelli of Viva Video to celebrate the anniversary of 2007, perhaps the best movie year of its decade, with David Fincher's Zodiac. Though a bit under-appreciated at the time, Zodiac has gone on to be considered one of Fincher's best films and indeed represents the decade it was made in very well. In a post-9/11 America, we were still scrambling to regain a sense of safety and our place in the larger world we were reminded we lived in, much like the characters in this movie which is also about planting a seed of fear that brings ruin even to those not targeted directly. While Proyas' films can be silly and over the top, they wear that on their sleeve and use it to create big, memorable images and explore philosophical concepts made accessible through blockbuster packaging. Knowing is an excellent example of Proyas working double duty to entertain you and open you up to a larger discussion about faith and meaning in the universe. And it certainly doesn't hurt that it happens to a be Nic Cage movie with a particularly Cage-y performance as a Chaos Theory obsessed Professor of Astrophysics with a drinking problem. Dan and Garrett come out of 2016 swingin' with Dan's all-time favorite Movie Movie, Boogie Nights. Jam packed with memorable scenes, fantastic performances, and a young PT Anderson's stylish tracking shots, Boogie Nights uses the transition from film to video that the porn industry went through in the 80's to unpack the simultaneously changing movie industry, and even the actual cultural transition that was occurring in America at the time. By putting character first, Anderson made one of the most iconic films of the 90's that is equally as uplifting as it is harrowing, and ultimately reminds us that sometimes we just need to ask for help - a timeless and undervalued piece of advice.
