Overcoming Folly - 38 - The Origins of Temptation
16/11/2021 Duración: 01h32minOvercoming Folly - Part 38 "The Origins of Temptation" With Rabbi Ari Sollish (Recorded live at the Intown Jewish Academy on November 14, 2021) Life certainly seems rigged sometimes. It can feel that the deck is stacked against us morally and spiritually. It's hard to do what we know is right when what's wrong feels so good. Which might understandably evoke some frustration. Why does it have to be this way? Why is it so hard to live an upright and purposeful life? Why is it easier to slip into our lower self than to rise into our higher self? In this session of Kabbalah & Coffee, we explore the origins of temptation. We learn about the cosmic source of our basest desires and see how they match up against our purer selves. Along the way we learn about the origins of life, the emergence of the soul, the significance of lifecycle milestones, and the meaning of the mystical realms of Tohu and Tikun.

Victory Of Light - 11 - The Inner Cruse Of Oil
15/11/2021 Duración: 01h20minVictory Of Light - Part 11 "The Inner Cruse Of Oil" With Rabbi Ari Sollish (Recorded live at the Intown Jewish Academy on January 26, 2014) Victory of Light is an exposition on the deeper significance of Chanukah, viewed through the lens of Chabad Chasidic teachings. The war of the Greeks was a spiritual one, aimed at eradicating the notion that Torah and mitzvot are holy, G-d given and Divine. The hellenistic Greeks wished to secularize Judaism, to turn it from a suprarational "faith" into a very rational system of philosophy and moral conduct. And in this sense the Greek Empire is very much alive: there still exist forces -- from both without and within -- that wish us to forget that Judaism is G-dly. The victory of the Jews over the Greeks represents the victory of the suprarational over the rational, the G-dly over the secular. We therefore immortalize Chanukah by lighting fiery lamps against the darkness of night, celebrating the Victory of Light.
