The Paradoxes of Human Happiness, Part 2: "Joy in the Mourning" "Happy are those who mourn, for they will be comforted." Mt 5:3 (lit) Talk about a paradox! Ours is the culture that measures personal happiness by the amount of laughter or enjoyment we can accrue. We look upon 'mourners' as people to be pitied. What do you see when you look out? A World of Hurt "People brought to him all who were ill, in pain, demon possessed, having seizures and paralyzed." Why settle for anything less" Your Highest Calling "Come. Follow me, "Jeus said, "And I will make you fishers of men." Mt. 4:19 I love that line from Tennyson: "Live pure,speak true, right wrong, follow the King-Otherwise why be born?" (idylls of the King) And what was true of an Arthurian Knight, is even more true of the Christian! Whey be 'born again', if it's not going to make a difference? The Lord who saved you, also calls you to follow Him. And among all the vocations and careers in the World, that is the highest calling! Mt 2:13 'To the solitary exile, a friend is everything, 'Willa Cather once observed. Yes, and to the Christian, who is a 'stranger' and a 'pilgrim' in this world, Christ is the greatest friend of all. There's a reason for that. He suffered 'exile' too!
