  • #566 - Changes coming against Charlotte

    06/12/2023 Duración: 51min

Duke has a big game this weekend, not because of the opponent (though this is a team to be respected) but because we begin to get to see what Duke looks like during the "Proctor is injured" part of the season. It appears Tyrese Proctor may be out for an extended period of time and the Duke Basketball Roundup is here to talk about the changes Duke may make to fill in for the star PG. You may be surprised at the names who they see getting extra playing time. The Podcast gang also break down what to expect from Duke's next opponent, the Charlotte 49ers, a team with some interesting players and that has shown it can play with the big boys. After a break, the DBR Podcast also dives into some non-Duke stuff... namely the decision by the college football playoff to leave Florida State out of the national semifinals. Eve Donald, who is no fan of the Seminoles, thinks FSU got hosed in this arrangement. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • #565 - Wrecked down at Georgia Tech

    03/12/2023 Duración: 01h04min

The Duke Blue Devils had another poor showing yesterday against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, and we discuss the first ACC loss on Episode 565. Duke lost 72-68 to Georgia Tech in a game that saw Duke fans lament the loss of Tyrese Proctor to an ankle injury early in the game and saw more poor shooting and stagnant offense. Jason Evans was in the building, so Jason and Donald start the discussion with his vantage point before we get into the headlines. There is some good to point out from this game, namely the play of Jeremy Roach as well as how the team once again fought to get back and have a chance to win. We also have some sound from the locker room as Jason was able to capture some of what Jeremy Roach and Jon Scheyer said after the game, and then we get into what went wrong with Duke Men’s Basketball in this game and how home bad patterns have formed on offense and defense. We discuss the Mark Mitchell technical foul that was a pivotal moment in the game, and we take a 30,000 foot view to hopefully ea

  • #564 - ACC Season Begins

    01/12/2023 Duración: 41min

After a couple disappointing games, Duke seeks to get back on track this weekend in Atlanta against the Ga Tech Yellowjackets. The Duke Basketball Roundup says this will be a very interesting game because it is hard to tell what Georgia Tech will bring to the game. Will we see the Yellowjacket team that struggled badly a couple weeks ago or the one that surprised everyone by knocking off a ranked Mississippi State team this week in the ACC-SEC Challenge? Perhaps more importantly, which Duke team will show up and will the players be able to shed these early season doldrums? This edition of the podcast also dives into the newest addition to the Duke coaching staff and also looks at how Nina King is holding things together with the football program while she searches for a new head coach to replace Mike Elko. • #563 - Awful against Arkansas

    30/11/2023 Duración: 51min

This was not how the season was supposed to start for an experienced Blue Devil club, but they picked up their second loss (and their second poor game in a row) on Wednesday, falling at Arkansas to the Razorbacks of the SEC. The game displayed a myriad of potential problems for Duke, not least of which was the team's inability to finish on offense close to the basket. The Duke Basketball Roundup dives into the events of this important game including a real gap in what each team brought to the table in terms of rim protection and facilitating. With the ACC season about to start this weekend, the Roundup is your one stop to hear what Duke needs to fix (and fast) to get back to the top tier of the college basketball world. • #562 - What to expect when Duke plays Arkansas

    28/11/2023 Duración: 28min

They are calling this one of the biggest home games in Arkansas basketball history. That's what happens when Duke comes to town. The Blue Devils will be playing the Razorbacks at Bud Walton Arena on Wednesday night as part of the first-ever ACC-SEC Challenge and the Duke Basketball Roundup is here to give you all you need to know about what to expect. For Arkansas, the biggest question may be the health of their star player Trevon Mark, who went down with a nasty back injury in a game against UNC last week. He's the leader of a deep and very experienced Razorback club that has struggled thus far in big games and probably sees Duke as an opportunity to right the ship and restore their tarnished reputation this season. And, after the break, the podcast guys look ahead to the rest of the Challenge. There are some really interesting games that could show whether some ACC teams are contenders of pretenders this year. • DBR Bites #28 - Elko Exits Duke

    27/11/2023 Duración: 45min

Under the cover of night, Mike Elko boarded a plane and put Durham in his rear-view mirror. After 2 years of great success at Duke, he is moving on to Texas A&M, one of the big power-players in college football. I guess this is what it feels like when Duke basketball swoops in and grabs a stud recruit at the last minute. The DBR Podcast gang (including a guest appearance by Sam Klein) discuss the impact of Elko's decision from both a rational and an emotional standpoint. The guys have plenty of thoughts on how this all went down, including comments on what Elko was apparently saying to Duke at the same time as he was talking to A&M. After a quick break, the podcast crew looks at some of the names being bandied about as the next head coach at Duke. We think this is a candidate search that needs to go very fast as Duke needs a leader in place to keep recruits and transfers committed to the program. Learn more about your ad choices. • #561 - Duke overcomes Thanksgiving hangover

    26/11/2023 Duración: 55min

The Duke Blue Devils had a poor effort display against Southern Indiana, but still emerged with the win on Friday night. We recap the game on Episode 561. The Blue Devils had a Black Friday hangover, whether it was too much turkey or not enough intensity, and it showed against the Screaming Eagles. After breaking down all the headlines that listeners sent in, they get to the good and bad of this contest. They focus on some of the great “statless domination” that the team showed at the end of the 1st half, but they also reflect on how the game started, with everyone saying that they didn’t have the effort that Duke Basketball requires. We end with our play of the game, which was a dynamite hammer from Tyrese Proctor, and we give out our first Player of the Week honors of the season. We also hit the gridiron, where Duke Gang finished out their regular season with a solid victory over Pitt. Duke finishes the season 7-5 and now turns to where they will end up for their bowl game. Jason and Donald review some of t

  • #560 - Doctor Proctor, gimme the W!

    22/11/2023 Duración: 50min

We’re back with Episode 560 to recap Duke’s win over LaSalle! The Blue Devils took out LaSalle 95-66 to move to 4-1 on the season, and Donald and Jason are here to recap the good and bad from the game. Then, they get to the wealth of good things that happened in this game from Tyrese Proctor to Sean Stewart and the team defense. After the break, we deal with the things to improve from this game as the team wasn’t perfect on the evening. • #559 - Bison Beatdown

    18/11/2023 Duración: 58min

Duke had no trouble taking care of the Bucknell Bison, 90-60, but there were several interesting events in the game that need a deep analysis. That is what the Duke Basketball Roundup is all about. Jason and Donald sit down to discuss Flip's near-injury, Scheyer's first technical, Mitchell dominating in the paint, and McCain grabbing boards and raining threes. After talking about all the good and bad from this game, the DBR Podcast crew dives into the next opponent in the Blue Devil Challenge, La Salle. The Explorers have some interesting players and are coached by a college basketball legend, Fran Dunphy. Oh, and be sure to stick around at the end to hear a little bit about Donald's trip to Trinidad and Tobago. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • DBR Bites #26 - How to beat the Bison!

    16/11/2023 Duración: 20min

Let's be honest, Bucknell won't be as tough an opponent as Arizona or Michigan State but no one should be overlooked or dismissed so the Duke Basketball Roundup crew is here to look at what to expect from the Bison. They've got an excellent scorer on the wing who can rip down the nets with his 3 point stroke and a 7-footer on the inside who will present a challenge for Flip and the Duke big men. Have a listen to the podcast to hear a bit more about what Bucknell does well and where they struggle. And, as soon as the game is over don't forget to send your suggested headlines (alliteration and puns preferred) to DBRPodcast at gmail so the guys can read the best of your submission when they recap the game over the weekend. • #558 - Spankin' Sparty

    15/11/2023 Duración: 01h02min

The Duke Basketball Roundup is here with a recap of the Blue Devil's bounce-back win over Michigan State. Caleb Foster went bananas (get it?!?!) from long range in this one... and Duke needed it as some of our more reliable guards suffered from poor shooting performances. Jason and Donald are joined by Forbes.com college basketball writer Jeff Fedotin to talk about what went right and wrong in the United Center. In addition to gushing about Foster, everyone was impressed with the rebounding and the play of Ryan Young. Plus, Jeff gives us some behind the scenes from his conversations with Jon Scheyer and Tom Izzo at the game. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • #557 - How to rebound against the Spartans

    13/11/2023 Duración: 47min

Duke Men’s Basketball heads to the United Center in Chicago tomorrow to take on Michigan State in the Champions Classic, and we preview the big game on Episode 557. Michigan State comes into this game with the same record as Duke: 1-1, with their loss courtesy of James Madison in the biggest upset in college basketball in the first week of the season. Jason and Donald preview what the Spartans can do well and what they have struggled with on the short season. They then take a look at the rest of the ACC, and the conference’s struggles make this game a bit more important. After the break, we switch to the gridiron, where Duke fell in a close game to UNC in 2OT. However, there were a couple controversial calls that once again changed the trajectory of the game. After a brief discussion of the game, the conversation shifts to the reports that Texas A&M have let Jimbo Fisher go, and lots of people list Mike Elko as a top candidate to replace him. Jason and Donald talk about the reports and whether they think he w

  • #556 - First Loss! What Happened Against Arizona?

    11/11/2023 Duración: 56min

The Duke Basketball Roundup takes a deep dive into the good and the bad from the Blue Devils' heavyweight matchup with the Arizona Wildcats. It was a tough, back-and-forth battle that put several Duke weaknesses on stark display. The starters suffered from poor shooting early and Arizona really dominated the boards, especially in the first half. When Duke turned to what was expected to be a deep bench, the guys who came in failed to provide a meaningful lift. But, nothing we saw rises to the level of an unfixable problem. The big question for Duke moving forward is, will they learn from this game and transform into a better team? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

  • #555 - Welcoming the Wildcats

    09/11/2023 Duración: 39min

The Duke Blue Devils welcome the Arizona Wildcats to Cameron on Friday night, and we preview the big game on Episode 555! It’s an early season matchup between two highly ranked teams, and to help us preview the Wildcats, we welcome Brian Pedersen of Arizona Desert Swarm to the show. Brian helps us understand the Arizona team that is coming to Cameron, from the players we know like Caleb Love to guys we may be unfamiliar with, like Oumar Ballo. Arizona’s a tall team with a lot of muscle, and Brian really helps Duke fans know what to expect when the two teams hit the floor. Jason and Donald then take the time to preview what they want to see from Duke in this matchup. They discuss rebounding, guard play, rotations, and of course, the hope that “Vintage Cameron” is alive on Friday night. It’s going to be a really fun game that we can’t wait to watch, and this preview will help get you ready! Make sure you’re following us! • #554 - Duke Dunks Dartmouth

    07/11/2023 Duración: 01h02min

If you had guessed that Jalen Blakes and Spencer Hubbard would arguably play bigger roles in Duke's season opening victory than Sean Stewart and TJ Power, go to the prize window to collect your reward. The Duke Basketball Roundup has plenty to talk about in their recap of Duke's impressive win over the Dartmouth Big Green and it all begins with the impressive display of depth from Jon Scheyer's squad. Duke used a combination of withering defensive pressure and smart offensive execution to pull away from Dartmouth around the middle of the first half and then coasted to victory. The DBR podcast crew of Jason and Donald are joined by a special guest -- former Chronicle Digital Sports editor Scott Rich -- for this recap of the game. In addition to a deep dive into the Duke win, they also look at how the rest of the ACC did on college basketball's opening night including a close call for Louisville and several impressive wins where ACC teams showed no trouble clearly the 90 or even 100 point marks. • #551 - How did Duke look in their exhibition game?

    02/11/2023 Duración: 58min

It was our first peek at the 2023-24 Blue Devils in a (sorta) real game as Duke took on UNC-Pembroke last night in Cameron. Though it was just an exhibition against an outmanned DII school, we learned a lot about how the early rotations look for Jon Scheyer's club and we are starting to see what the new faces on the team are capable of achieving. The Duke Basketball Roundup had a bunch of takeaways from the game starting with this one... Jared McCain looks like the real deal, an elite scorer who can get his shot (and to the FT line) any time he wants. After a full breakdown of the game, the DBR Podcast crew also looks ahead to the next recruiting announcement on the horizon -- 5-star big man Patrick Ngongba will announce his school of choice on Saturday and there are a lot of signs that say he will be picking Duke. Finally, Jason and Donald take a moment to reflect on the career and legacy of Bobby Knight, the General, a man who had a profound influence on the entire college basketball world, and especially o

  • #550 - Still flipping out over Flagg

    01/11/2023 Duración: 43min

Whew, it has been a busy few days for the Duke Basketball Roundup but the guys are still gushing over the decision by Cooper Flagg to come to Duke next year. Make no mistake, this kid is a generational talent and the podcast gang has some stats and comparisons that will help all of you understand what it means that he will be playing in Cameron next season. After the break, Jason and Donald turn to the future of ACC football. The conference has unveiled the schedule for the next several years and the guys have some thoughts about what works and what doesn't for the Blue Devils and Mike Elko. Lastly, we go outside of Duke but inside the conference to talk about an historic basketball power that has fallen on some really tough times lately. What is the future of Louisville basketball? Oh, and wait until you hear about the Duke connection to a little known player from Flagler College who put a scare into big bad Florida State over the weekend! Learn more about your ad choices.
