June 15 marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day—a time to reflect on the dignity and worth of every person, especially our elders. Like family violence, elder abuse is a grave injustice, rooted in the misuse of power and control. Sadly, older people may experience abuse in their own homes or relationships. Many suffer in silence, unable or unwilling to share their concerns. As Catholics, we are called to stand with the vulnerable. We invite you to join us in prayer with James for the elderly, that they may be protected from harm, neglect, and exploitation. May God grant them the justice, compassion, and dignity they so deeply deserve.

God speaks to us in many ways, and on this Pentecost, we remember Christ’s promise that the Holy Spirit will teach us all things. As the Church celebrates the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, let us give thanks for this precious gift and open our hearts to God’s loving presence. Together, as we listen to Emmanuel Worship’s song “Holy Spirit Come,” let us prayerfully invite the Spirit into our lives and lift our voices in praise and gratitude to our loving God.

We continue to unite our prayers with the intentions of the Holy Father entrusted to us this year. This month, we are blessed to be joined by Eric as we offer our prayers especially for Pope Leo XIV, asking that he may shepherd the Church with a heart full of compassion. We entrust this intention to the loving intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Augustine, his spiritual guide, confident that they will present our prayers before the throne of God.

Fr Anthony Mellor explains that the sign of the cross is truly foundational for Catholics, expressing both the heart of our faith and our identity as followers of Christ. This ancient gesture, rooted in Scripture and tradition, reminds us that we belong to God, having been marked as His own since baptism. When Catholics make the sign of the cross, we recall the central mystery of the Trinity and affirm our belief in God’s love, revealed through Jesus’ sacrifice. Pope Francis had said, this simple act is like an embrace from God, enveloping us in His love and drawing us deeper into the divine life.

May God bless them with patience, wisdom, and peace; comfort those who grieve or hurt; and inspire families to cherish and support their mothers every day. We entrust all our intentions to the loving care of the Blessed Virgin Mary, our model of grace and motherly love.

Sr Mary Joseph Sze first felt the gentle call to religious life at just 16. This year, she celebrates her Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of devoted service with the Sisters of St Paul de Chartres Australia. Reflecting on her journey, Sr Mary Joseph describes Jesus as her bridegroom, one who lovingly “spoils his bride,” and she draws daily strength from this deep relationship. She reminds us that, like her, we are all God’s children, called to trust in His plan for our lives at every age. Her story stands as a testament to enduring faith, hope, and commitment. May we, too, experience the love that God freely gives and live out our vocation with courage and joy.
