The way to respond to God's promises is to ask "How can we partner with God in order to prepare for Him to answer in His perfect time?" Chapter two of Jonah takes a break from the chaos and action as God corners Jonah in the belly of the fish to convince Jonah to stop running from His presence and start living in it. Despite Jonah's blatant disobedience, God pursues him and won't relent until Jonah surrenders to God's presence and is reconciled to Him. This slow, existential scene is about the sending and saving heart of God not only for the lost, but also for His own children.

As Jonah runs away from what God told him to do, we see that God's mission continues, with and despite his messenger.

Since the Great Commission has always been God's heart, we can confidently know what His desires are for the lost and for the Church He sends unto them.

God has given us a sure identity and a rich calling as believers, as the church, and as individuals.

Loving with Father's heart makes our actions worthwhile. We can think and do many things, but, without being motivated by a love for God, we will tend to find our value in achievement or self-promotion. Knowing God's love for us will protect and sustain us, and enable us to love others.

As the people of God, we need to rediscover the breathtaking privilege of enjoying God's presence. When the world sees us loving His presence they know Jesus is from God.
