Howard sat down for dinner with a gathering of dentists and dental professionals in Singapore. They passed the microphones around the table and spoke about heir journey, how they found themselves in Singapore, and what the state of dentistry is like in Southeast Asia.

Dr Tan graduated from the Faculty of Dentistry, National University of Singapore with a Bachelors of Dental Surgery. Dr Tan obtained his first post-graduate qualification from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgery in 2007 and his second from the Faculty of General Dental Practice and Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2008. He is also currently enrolled in the Certificate of Oral Implantology Program, University of Frankfurt.   After graduation with his bachelors degree, Dr Tan served as a dental officer in Singhealth before moving out full time to private group dental practice.   He has special interests in Cosmetic Dentistry and Dental Implant Surgery. Besides attending numerous conferences both locally and internationally, he is active in promoting Aesthetic Dentistry in Singapore (ADSS) and the region . Dr Ronnie Yap was awarded both the FAC Ohlers Gold Medal for Best Clinical Student, and the University Silver Medal for the Best Student of that graduating year.   He is currently adjunct Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore. Howard sat down in Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan with orthodontist Dr. Miho Imamura DDS, PhD who learned to speak English in Iowa where she traveled to and from Des Moines from 1985 to 2010 to study American dentistry and CWF - Community Water Fluoridation. Currently the only two cites in Japan that use CWF are Niigata and Kyoto.   Dr. Miho Imamura teaches orthodontics in Tokyo 10 times per year to both orthodontist and general dentists. She says the orthodontists don't like it when she teaches general dentists orthodontics but she says general dentists need to know and understand orthodontics.   Dr. Miho Imamura teaches myofunctional therapy four times per year in Tokyo to both orthodontists and general dentists. Her mentor in myofunctional was Bill Zickefoose in Iowa who passed away in 2015. Howard sat down in Tokyo, Kamata, Nippon (Japan) at the dental office of Dr. Shinya Minami with Dr. Shinya and his dental consultant Joya Sakamoto.   Dr. Shinya Minami graduated from Showa University, Department of Dentistry in Tokyo, Nippon in 2004. Dental school is 6 years and then a one year residency. Dr. Shinya Minami met his wife in dental school and they were the only ones in their class that got married. His wife after dental school went seven more years of college to become an orthodontist.   Their dental office hours are 9:00am to 7:00pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and closed Tuesday and Sunday. The dentist will see about ten patients per day for about one hour per patient. The hygienist appointments are one-hour long. When a patient is missing a molar about 40% will get a one-tooth removable partial, 40% will get a fixed 3-unit bridge, and 20% will get an implant crown. About 10% of Japanese dentist can read English.

Howard sat down with International Director at Pentron Japan Inc, Noritoshi Iwata. They discussed the differences in endodontic therapy, implantology, and general dentistry between Japanese and American dentists. Dr. Loh graduated from the University of Singapore in 1976 and obtained his Master of Dental Science from the University of Pittsburgh in 1982 through a scholarship awarded by the National University of Singapore. He was a full time instructor in the National University of Singapore until 1986. He is a visiting professor at the department of orthodontics, Wenzhou Medical College, China.   He was the Honorary General Secretary of the Singapore Dental Association in 1986-1988. He founded the Association of Orthodontists, Singapore in 1991 and was the President for the first 2 years.
